I think in the case of Aviles he is not doing anything differently so he is going to waver back and forth across his career numbers. He could be a bit of a smarter hitter at the plate as well but this is Mike being Mike. No big changes. This is just the other side of Mike starting the season like a house-a-fire I think.

A few of these guys could use a transfusion of Nava blood when it comes to their approach to plate appearances but in Aviles case I will be surprised if he ends the season far from his career averages.

Mike does appear to have the where-with-all to have enough bat control to pick pitches in certain spots and drive them to where they would do the most good and I would like to see him do more of that. But that is probably wishful thinking on my part.

For those who don't get the pleasure of listening to Jim Palmer he just told the audience that the reason they call the pitch a "slider" is because it slides. Gee Jim I wonder why they call the curve a curve.

His mother must be proud of him.

What is Gonzalez doing with his finger in Bettemint's back pocket?

110 pitches through 8. I wanted him to finish but that really should be it for him.

Yup. Nice job, but no need to blow his arm off.

I've heard this one before. McCarver said "curves don't curve' date=' but sliders slide."[/quote']

That was taken out of context. Guy was talking about the significance of OBP. In which OBP a walk *is* as good as a HR.

A complete game shut out would do Buch's confidence a world of good and now ya' gotta' take into account the two good starts he has had before this one and credit him for having leapfrogged to the top of the consistency charts for the Sox rotation.

Maybe Beckett and Buch are tied for first with Felix close behind and Lester not quite even close enough to suck exhaust fumes yet.

Has V given him the "dugout handshake" yet? If this half inning takes any time at all that would likely close out this outing for Buch if that is not already the case.

Ben the boob will never listen to you.

I heard he's reading this forum for ideas because the Arm Chair GM's out here are SO MUCH smarter than him. ;)

Satchel Paige once said to someone who said curves don't curves, stand behind something and prove to you that they do.

2 for 3 with 2 walks and *another* double. This guy isn't going to make the roster decisions easy for this team.

Ok but he still sounded like an idiot when he said it.

Nice hit Nava, but you should be DFA'd. DFA Pedey. NOW. He's lost it. DFA Youk too.

Plus he broke up a double play, causing two runs to score and made a great catch in left.

I'd give anything to be able to hear Orsillo and Remy tnight.

I like those guys, a lot. :)

Remy is great. Don is just so boring. He has no personality.

Agree to disagree. I think they work well together. And Don is asked to do play by play in the post season. On TBS but, what-evs.

They used to say the same thing about Bud Abbott

There's a difference between being a straight man and paint drying on the wall.

Personally I think Jerry wouldn't work as well without Don as his straight man.

Yeah, he didn't work well with Sean McDonough. IMO. Remy is a special breed.
