I am hoping that Bobby V and his coaches are giving him a crash course in playing the OF so we can continue to see him in the lineup when Youks comes back. They can move hi$m back to 3rd if Youk continues to crap out or get injured.

Cherrington has to know that if he keeps on putting Youkilis out there and Youk either A)keeps trying to play injured or B) keeps sucking like he has been, they're just throwing games away.

If you look at how well Middlebrooks has been playing and producing runs night in and night out, there is zero justification in sending him back down.

I know it's only been 10 games, but look at his numbers. 10 G, 4 HR, 5 2B, 13 RBI, .310 Average, 1.070 OPS. Those are the kinds of numbers you pray that you get from a guy like Adrian Gonzalez. And you're getting them from a 23 year old kid.

You take is predicated on the assumption that Cheringpuke knows what the hell he's doing. Let me let you in on a little secret.....HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT HE'S DOING because he is one bungling and inept turd. Besides, he takes his orders from Lucchino and the latter takes his from Prune Face Henry---and they are not going to eat an $11 million contract no matter how many games it costs us. The only out is if some team that could use a combo- 3B-1B, like maybe the deep pocket Phillies, jump in and make a trade----say a Youkilis for Blanton swap. Otherwise, another major screw up will ensue. On any other team, Youk would be a Wally Pipp when he returns but we have seen how thoroughly inept our front office is---at least we should have seen it last winter---I'm afraid Will might actually be sent back to Pawtucket for what the f ront office will blatantly call "more seasoning". It is then the media, press and fans should rise as one and literally drive these bastards out of town.

I could see the Blanton move. That would make sense for both teams. Blanton is a serviceable starter most of the time. He's also Daniel Nava's favorite pitcher.

Youk has more experience in the outfield than Will does. ;)

You're dead right, but I'd rather reward guys that are getting the results and if and when their form slumps them they give others like Youk a start.

Cafardo's article this morning brings out the conflict between Cherington and Valentine regarding Middlebrooks and Youkilis.

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2012/05/15/should_youkilis_be_handed_his_job_back/

It's clear Valentine has little or no say on personnel, and may even be limited on what he can do on the field.

I can't see Valentine lasting the season under the circumstances. Lucchino/Henry have a mess of their own making.

Cafardo's piece infers conflict. I don't see any BV quotes stating there is an issue or that he doesn't agree with Ben.

I wouldn't take Middlebrooks out of the lineup until he cools down ' date=' you gotta ride the hot hand[/quote']

Thing is, while this is a hot streak, it's not like he cools down to a .730 OPS or something.

Over his last 621 PA, he's hit .294 with an .885 OPS, 36 HR, 134 RBI. Those are very solid numbers.

621 PA is less than what a regular MLB player gets in a single season. So that's virtually a full season.

Agree.

As some here said... If they want to put Youk on the field, at least send WM to OF, Kid is young, he could learn another position; In the end we are in experiment mode, aren't we?

Middlebrooks facing demotion

Will Middlebrooks, 3B, BOS

News: CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman reports the Red Sox plan to demote Will Middlebrooks to Triple-A Pawtucket once Kevin Youkilis (back) is ready to come off the disabled list.

That's just stupid. I understand giving Youk an opportunity to come back and be a middle of the order bat, but they could get creative and put the kid in LF. More playing time for lesser players. Boo.

I'm sure that he would rather play the OF than go back to AAA.

Cafardo has been saying the same--more politely--in the Globe. It looks like it will come to a head at some point. Valentine is a very experienced manager, and he has been very patient so far--giving Cherington the benefit of the doubt.

The front office really hasn't changed. They are control freaks.

You can see Lucchino/Henry are at the root of the problem. They gave the front office too much power

under Epstein, and except for the money, nothing has changed. It's a dysfunctional situation.

That's why I think Valentine will be gone before the season's over

Ahh.

Nothin like shaking things up once we start winning games.

Good job, Cherry. Do you understand this concept of trying to win?

"Benny the Boob" seems fitting if it goes down this way?

I'm going to simply refuse to believe that they send WMB down until it actually happens. Call it denial.
3 or 4 dingers this week or a 4 for 4 games with a couple of XBHs should change their mind.

Doesn't even have to do that. Just give me a .300 average and a couple XBH with a couple RBI's. That's not even asking that much from the kid. But if he can do that against the Rays, that would be huge.

Just a quick late game, tie breaking 3 run HR will do the trick for me. That's all.

That and just hit .300 for the series.

Oh, one more thing - take Papelbon deep against PHI.

Why does this team hate riding the hot bat? When Lowrie was tearing last year, to the bench he goes, and Scutaro comes in. When Scutaro was on a tear, Aviles comes in. Lavs is sitting idly by in Pawtucket with a .370 OBP. Now Middlebrooks is being sent down? Dumb.
