An absolute joke. Complete horseshit. If there is one thing I hate about baseball it's the lack of umpire accountability.

I just said I wasn't blaming Ross one bit. It was a clear ball and the ump called it a strike. The point I am trying to make is that when you are in the ninth' date=' two outs, 0-2 count, ump has been inconsistent all game, down one run, two men on base, then you have to swing the bat if it is close. [[/quote']

What if it isn't close, and it's called a strike anyway?

So why not swing at a pitch like that with the game on the line?

Because the whole point of the strike zone is that that's the area where, if a ball is thrown there, a professional hitter ought to be able to make contact with it. If a ball is thrown too far outside the strike zone, sure, you can occasionally still make contact if you're disciplined, have a good idea what you're swinging at and have a quick bat, but has that described Ross at any point recently?

If he swings at that, odds are what happens is that he misses, and we're yelling at him for chasing one that was obviously out of the zone to end the game.

Couldn't agree more.

Bards line 6.2 Innings 1ER 7 BB 7 SO

One way or the other he has to cut down on the walks. its hurting...

Amen to that. Way too many walks.

You aren't talking about pitches that were borderline. You are talking about pitches so far outside that you could fit another three baseballs in the space between the pitch and strike zone! How can you adapt your game to that?

Agreed on Bard. His manager handles him properly, he gets out of there with a pretty good line. As it was, still not bad for a clear work in progress.

1 freaking run on Bard 2nd start of his career, the Sox will win 9/10 times if he does that. Not many hard hit ball off him. Yet to allow a HR or more than 1 XBH. This is a good performance from your #5. Remember how 4-5 left the Sox in a huge hole as soon as the 1st inning ended last year?

And Bard might be that guy who will never get runs support. There's usually one of that on each staff.

I would like to see them break up Doubront and Bard from pitching back to back. Key relievers are used when they pitch and leaving the following game a nightmare to get in a different reliever.

3 of 4 is not bad.

I thought Bard looked good.

Of course, I see him as a work in progress.

More importantly, he's making improvements each time out.

Trying to explain that Rodney wasn’t intimidating to a Rays fan is like trying to teach advanced mathematics to a preschooler. It isn't a sign of intimidation when they don't swing at your way off the mark bad pitches. (or teaching me how to spell and use proper grammar) f***!

Missed the game because of work. Disappointing score, especially with the Way Bard

Played. To bad he couldnt get any support from the offense.

None the less it's hard to get to upset. Aside from today we really kicked ass in this series. We are only one game down in the division. Watching the Sox play Texas will be fun!!

Intimidated? Haven't we done pretty well against him in the past? I think we have intimidated his sorry ass through out the years.

I don't know. I've lost all hope for the dude and I think I lost some of my brain cells trying to explain to him that he hasn't done anything close to intimidating the Sox.

Hey, at least the team didn't loose cause it played crappy. Shields was just great and the ref f***ed us. At least Bard and the 'pen (Two BIG question marks) looked good tonight.

Well put.

7 walks. He's lucky he only gave up 4 hits' date=' but those 7 walks will be the death of him against a team with more firepower[/quote']

You didn't watch the game did you?

Agreed

If Bard can drop those walks he will be a stellar starter.

Unfortunately' date=' no. I was dealing with the dumbasses who thought they could run 26 miles in 88 degree heat[/quote']

He had three walks through 6. Which isn't really bad. Then BV brought him out for the 7th, clearly gassed, and let him walk the bases loaded and bring in a run via another walk.

Had to jump ship midway through the game for work... pissed we couldn't come through with a big hit when we needed one, especially against Rodney. That guy will blow it sooner or later and we should have made it happen today.

Just looking at the PitchFX from the final AB with Ross makes me want to puke... Selig and the rest of his cronies need to have copies of it pasted on every available surface in their office until they fix these piece of s*** umpires with f***ed up strike zones. It was ridiculous and while it didn't cost us the game, it certainly prevented us from having a real chance at winning it.

This graphic says it all... f*** that umpire and his ******** strike zone.

Couple things from today's game as well as this series:

1. I really liked the way Bard threw. He walked too many hitters (but as User Name pointed out, 3 walks in the 7th when he was gassed killed him). Either way, he did a great job limiting the damage and I'll take that outing from Bard all day. 6.2 IP, 1 ER in his 2nd MLB start is very, very good.

2. We have to remember, the Rays messed with their rotation in Detroit for the sole purpose of having Shields throw against the Sox. So they threw their #1-4 at us, and we threw our #2-5 at them and came away with 3/4. This is the team that has "the best pitching staff in the AL East, maybe in all of baseball" according to analysts. Well, our #5 starter just went toe to toe with their #1 starter. You have to feel very confident in the fact that Bard gave Shields and the Rays all they could handle. It was unfortunate, but they didn't earn the win, Valentine gave it away. You have to go with Thomas against Pena after it was extremely apparent that Bard lost his control.

3. Sox are playing very good baseball right now. Coming up this series, it's Lester vs Lewis (extreme advantage to Lester) and Beckett vs Holland.

Sox should take game 1 pretty easily. Game 2 - We'll see if we can keep up what we started v Moore and keep hitting tough lefties. And we'll see if Beckett can keep throwing effectively with lower velocity.

Get through this homestand 6-3 or 7-2, and then it's easy breezy for a few weeks. After the NYY series, the Sox go:

3 @ MIN

4 @ CHW

3 v OAK

3 v BAL

3 @ KC

4 v CLE

2 v SEA

That's 22 games where the Sox can really rattle off a lot of wins. They could easily have a stretch of 16-6 or 17-5 during those games, especially because that spans through May 15 which means Crawford should be back for about of 1/2 of those games

Guys.

We just laid a 3 game beat down on a division rival, slaughtering 3 of their best pitchers and bullpen

The bullpen was lights out in the series, allowing 1 run over 6 1/3 innings if my math is right.

We scored 31 runs in a 3 game span

Every starter went out there and was dealing save for Doubront who still gave a solid performance.

Some guys who were cold got hot

We have our two aces set to face Texas when they roll in and I'm 100% confident that we will take at least 2 out of 3 from those has beens from duh bronx, if not the sweep. We'll be at least 8-7 by the time we hit the road.

Will you be going to any of the Texas or Yankee series?
