Let's hope clay can match josh and put up a solid start with a win.

If the offense plays like they did today Clay just has

To play average :) but here's hoping the man has a solid game!!

Putting Lars in LF after 1 game played in the OF in AAA. would be a terrible idea.

Lin is not in the lineup in Pawtucket. Cue the Dojji.

Lin might be the least bad option. At least he'll defend well and has some speed off the bench.

Realistically we're probably looking at one of Aviles, Punto or Youk in the OF and a backup called up.

Mcdonald has the bat for corner OF? Seems to me that Aviles is going to be a bat in the Sox lineup anyway. Not sure they have enough bats to scoff at Aviles bat at corner outfield given the guys they send out there on a regular basis.

Impeccable timing.

The Sox did get Price out of the game. Every once and awhile it seems to me that as good as he is, Madden is sometimes guilty of over-managing. I did keep track of it but it seemed to me the Rays had a conveyer belt of relief pitchers coming into that game and by the later innings they could not get anybody out.

Or maybe David Price is overrated.

According to an industry source with knowledge of the situation, Red Sox center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury likely suffered a dislocation or subluxation of his right shoulder on a play at second base in which Rays shortstop Reid Brignac's knee drove into his back. Ellsbury immediately grabbed for his right shoulder, and after being seen by a Red Sox team trainer, he was removed from the game, walking off the field with his right arm pinned to his chest. Third baseman Kevin Youkilis said that Ellsbury informed the team that "it felt like something moved a little bit."

Ellsbury's condition was announced by the Sox as a right shoulder injury, with Ellsbury being sent to Mass General for further testing. While the results of those tests have not yet been announced, the source confirmed that Ellsbury likely suffered a dislocation or subluxation in which the shoulder slipped out of the joint. With such a diagnosis, Ellsbury would be expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks to see if the injury responds to rest and rehabilitation. If not, then season-ending surgery would be a possibility.

The injury harbors some similarities to one that Derek Jeter suffered on Opening Day of the 2003 season, when Blue Jays catcher Ken Huckaby fell on the Yankees shortstop, with his knee landing on Jeter's shoulder. In that instance, Jeter rehabbed and was back in six weeks, and performed at an exceptional level (.324 average, .393 OBP, .844 OPS) in 119 games that year.

Per WEEI. Sounds like a dislocated shoulder.

Or maybe David Price is overrated.

Price seemed to unravel oddly today. Once he started to have trouble with his control and was stuck out there on the mound it looked like he started to overthrow in an effort to keep his velocity up where it had been. Once he started overthrowing his rhythm was shot and he was all over the place. He reacted very badly and really did not have a good answer to what was happening to him on the mound. Toasted himself more than anything else as at that point the Sox had not really done much damage to him. Looked like he was insistent that his FB was going to get him off the mound and in the dugout. There he was out there insistent on throwing the FB and intent on keeping his velocity up regardless of the fact that he was clearly tiring and overthrowing. Even tweaked his back at one point trying to throw the thing.

So you might be right in that he did more to self-destruct at that point than the Sox had done to distroy him. The Sox were pretty patient at the plate today though and that clearly contributed to Price's demise.

Or Cody Ross.

Cody Ross at least has the ability to be a 20-25 HR player with consistent playing time. Sweeney and DMac don't. Ross won't ever been an all star, but he is passable.

Regardless - Crawford is going to be able to come back, get set in the top of the order where he likes to hit, and be the hitter that he was in TB, so losing Ellsbury won't be as big of a hit as it would if we didn't have Crawford.

If Crawford can turn into TB Crawford, then we will see minimal drop off in OF offense from last year, considering the year that Crawford had and the year that our RF had.
