Yup, I have a feeling MVP Jr will be taking me and MVP III to Fenway a few decades from now. I'm guessing it'll be a $1,000 trip by then.

Such a shame they couldn't get a new ballpark built at the Seaport....easy public transportation options, 93 tunnel right there....Imagine the Boston skyline as a backdrop...with the harbor behind the park...They could have built a new and unique park, not a Fenway replica, but an entirely different park, although building it in a retro style.

Fenway is great and all, but it's not THAT great. look at the green metal panelling all around the press box where it says "Fenway Park"...it looks lame. Just panels of green metal. And the red Fenway Park letters are PLASTIC. The seats suck, many of the sight lines are awful if not totally obstructed....Fenway is not pretty like Wrigley, nor is it imposing like the old Tiger Stadium. It's just kind of there. Yes, it has an aura about it, and you can feel the heritage and tradition....but at the end of the day, it's just a dumpy old baseball stadium.

Like what? The silver line? Could you imagine trying to fit 40,000 people onto buses?

Don't think 40k would take buses to the game if there was parking. Or you know, people could "walk" from South Station or some other spot. Not every stadium is readily accessible by public transit.

They would obviously need to expand one of the T lines to accomodate. It is a f***ing nightmare on mass transit to get out of Fenway anyway.

When saw how well the Fenway feel could be recreated in Fla in a stadium that went up in less than a year, I have no doubt that they could build a new MLB facility that would make you think you were sitting in Fenway but without all the sight obstructions and seats pointed in the wrong direction.

BTW: I guess the Fenway feel includes small seats, because the seats in JetBlue Park are definitely smaller than the seats at City of Palms Park.

South Station and Haymarket are within walking distance....

It makes sense to have the Spring Training park identical to Fenway....but if they ever build a new ballpark up here, creating a Fenway replica would be a disappointment. They should just leave the legacy of Fenway alone, and create a whole new and unique ballpark for a new era....in my opinion.

Haymarket is at least a 30 minute walk to any part of the seaport with enough land for a baseball stadium. For a ballpark on the waterfront to be feasible they'd have to rip out the stupid silver line and replace it with rail. If it could get the T to build a tram down the greenway and along the waterfront, maybe then I'd support a new ballpark.

Yeah, were you in the city yesterday? The Red Sox game got out at the same time as rush hour. All 2 O'clock games need to become 1 o'clock games.

Although, the beauty of the Silver Line is that the tunnels are already there for half of it. It would be alot easier than building an entirely new line. Whenever I'm traveling around there, it seems like there is a big surplus of extra space. It is the only part of the city where I can consistently find a good parking space.

I always just walk home from work on red sox game days. Today will be no better, the green line was mobbed with visitors for the marathon.

The game was over by 5:30. On a Friday, that game ending at 4:30 would have meant little in terms of traffic.

One thing I've learned about traffic is that it is small factors can cause a huge difference. You get one old man in his Buick driving 20 MPH on the highway, and everyone loses an hour of their life. 20,000 fans coming out of a stadium at the same time as rush hour certainly made a big difference in my day.

The Sox really do get a good deal of benefit from Fenway. There is the perennial..."this place is a treasure" ********. Of course it is in fact a treasure and like most things referred to as treasure it is old.

They get to squeeze out additional seating capacity at their discretion which is a great way to keep demand high...assuring that it outstrips supply.

Also, they have tactfully avoided the absolute nightmare that building anything like a new park within the confines of Boston would entail. By the time they got through with the payoffs, the base price would have probably doubled. I could see it now. Fenway would be torn down at some point while the new park was under construction. As soon as Fenway was a hole in the ground, then the construction delays would start pushing FSG up against a hard boundary for opening day unless of course the appropriate "funding" was provided to the various political figures, union big shots, the Archbishop of Boston...you name it, they will find a reason why they should get paid. Find desk, bend over...prepare for insertion of flagpole with sand of course.

By the time they were done with him LL would think anything else he had ever done in his life was a walk in the park. Actually maybe that is a silver lining.:D:D

Choke jobs to last several generations!

A foul pole named for a guy who didn't hit homeruns!

Seats in the OF that don't face the IF!

I love Fenway, but it is not a very comfortable place to watch a game and the thousands of obstructed views is very frustrating. Warts and all, I still get a thrill every time I enter the place after all these 45+ years. I don't know if I could ever feel the same way about a new ballpark. That's just sentimentality on my part. I miss City of Palms Park in Ft. Myers, and I had gone there for only 8 years and the new park is beautiful ( although the seats are as small as they are at Fenway).

Love Fenway too, but would love to see a new Fenway built. Make the old one an MLB Museum of some sort.

I don't see it happening though. Not with this ownership group and all the money they dumped into the place. It would have to be something the next ownership group to tackle.

It's quite a commute from where you live. How often do you get to Fenway?

Do what Kraft did and move the sox to the burbs. Create a Red Sox place filled with shopping malls, food, etc and rake in the profits.

No. That would be horrible. Sox should stay in Boston. I din't want them to be the Boston Red Sox of Marlborough.

Posted
The Patriots are of course now the New England Patriots. I don't want to be looking at the standings some day and see the New England Red Sox. That they are a "city" team in more ways than one is part of their persona I think.

It works for football because games are played only once a week and it's worth it to go out of the city and tailgate early, etc. Baseball is played pretty much every night and a lot of people just get out of work in the city and go. Wouldn't be nearly as easy if they had to travel to the outskirts of town.

Fenway Park to me is a cathedral!!!!!! There is no other place like it. Since I am slim anyway, I have never found the seats stifling and haven't ever sat in right field where you have to twist to see home plate. The is a pisser, I know. I wonder if they could replace those seats in a different configuration? With all the engineering knowhow today it might be possible.

Believe it or not not, I love the standing only section just beyond third base. You can lean against one of the posts, get into a running conversation with other fans next to and behind you and even cavort with those seated in front. I don't know how many of you have gone the Red Sox Destination Route but they sit you up by the Coca Cola sign and when the wind blows in from the Bay you're freezing your ass off. A lot of us have beaten that by goind down to the standing room only section. Not a bad place to watch a game.

As for Fenway, it was the ballpark that turned me into a Red Sox fan in 2000. I don't ever want to see torn down

The third base standing room isn't the worst really. I went to a Sox Yankees game in September and it was my first time up there. Wasn't the greatest, but wasn't the worst. I've never sat in right field but that'll probably be my next venture. I typically sit down the 1st/3rd baseline and rather like those seats.

I'm not too keen on getting rid of Fenway, whether it could actually happen or not. Not that I don't enjoy modern amenities in ballparks, but I also sort of like the simplistic feel of Fenway. It's nice in a way.

As for the commute during games at certain times of the day, it is a pain. If they have a day game and I'm busy all day and don't really realize it, I find myself always wishing I hadn't taken the train. Easily adds a solid 30-45 minutes to my travel time. I think I've been down that way in a car a whopping two times when day/early evening game gets out and both times easily add at least an hour. Traffic and commuting is by far the worst part about the park.

Never been yet, but I know I'm going to have a blast when I go. When I do, I won't be worrying about the comfort, but the atmosphere. The history, the fans, the food, etc is what I'll be focusing on. You want comfort stay home and watch the game from your couch. My opinion is invalid because I've never been, but still. You can't expect a place that's been there for 100 years to be comfortable, that's ridiculous.

Whoa!!!!!!! I was under the impression that you went to Fenway last July, at least that's what you were telling all of us. I left the board in June because I was so pissed off at the way the team was playing. I didnt hear that you never went. Make sure you go this year. I think we will have a much better season.
