Well, did Francona get the job, yea or nay? If he is the greatest manager in our generation, why did the Cards take a pass on him?

You figure it out.

Oh-and no more BS posts needed. Just some intelligent stuff for a change.

If they passed on him, it wasn'tbecause he was high.

Went over to sauxheads and I personally saw why this jackasses were so despised by every board they go to. A friend of mine told me how they were disliked at dirtdogs, sauxheads and didn't last a week in some new board. All they do is suck each other's dick all day about how intelligent they are and how stupid the rest of the world is.

I've been here long enough to see lots of ups and downs. I've seen worse times on this forum--- total all out flaming wars. While there has been a lot of disagreement lately, that has to be expected coming off a season like 2011 and waiting 2 months for the hint at any good news or steps in the right direction. The news has been real slow almost nonexistent, but the discussion has been surprisingly lively. Now, we finally have something positive to discuss.

I like the Bobby V move. He was my second pick after LaRussa, but LaRussa was not a possibility from the get go. Bobby V will be an interesting ride.

I liked Tito. He's my all time favorite Sox manager. It was just time for a change of course. Bobby V has a very different style, and he is a much more effective game manager than Tito. Tito bears some blame for 2011, but it wasn't all his fault, and it doesn't negate all the good things he did. He wasn't bad at managing the bullpen until he adopted his 7-Run rule over the last couple of seasons. That was hard to watch or understand.

Nice post a700. :)

Well, Johnny boy, I just don't know what to say about what you have written. Its admittedly hard for me to comprehend intelligence such as you obviously possess. I guess I will just let what you have written stand on its own demerits.

That was an erudite and eloquent post. I am sure it is reflective of your level of thinking and baseball acumen.

The title of this thread is who will be manager. The Sox have become a team where titles don't seem to mean very much.

We have a sports organization in this town that has changed over from a laughing stock to a very solid, well run sports business....the Boston Bruins. That said at least from the outside looking in LL seems light years away from Cam Neely. Maybe they each know as much about the sports that they participate in but the tone they set within their organizations appears entirely different. The biggest difference might be that the Jacobs family has hired intelligently and now just seems to provide their guys a budget but lets them run the team. I would guess that even that budget is based in large part on the information that comes up to them from the organization. Not sure that JH can keep out of things the way Jacobs does and I would have a hard time thinking that LL can function within an organization the way Cam does.

The Sox can surely still be successful without having a well oiled machine as an organization, but if they do aspire to being a well oiled machine, the current Bruins provide as good a model as any.

He has too much baggage right now. Nobody will hire him.

Baggage is one thing, claiming he was high during an interview is another.

Tito won two WS. He needs a year or two off from managing to recharge and will get another managing job.

The "stoned" comment was likely a bit of hyperbole-- nothing to spend numerous posts refuting. I regularly refer to Ron Washington as a crackhead-- hyperbole for the purpose of humor. But feel free to get all upset and ask me to prove it.

Tito is on EEI now. Asked about Bard he says he thinks Bard can close and that in fact Bard can also start. He does go on to say that Bard covers many of the weaknesses in your bullpen because he can come in the 7th or 8th inning and bail you out of a jam. The interesting thing about that may be that it suggests that he can at least stand up to pressure.

Other interesting bit was that Tito says he talked to the Globe columnist that broke the prescription drug use problem story the night before the article was in the Globe and it was Tito's impression that the guy was not going to use that item in the piece. Tito says he would have provided the guy with the things he would have needed to debunk that whole deal if he thought the item was actually going to appear in the piece. That does sound like something of a slimy media deal. Normally a reporter will tell you right up front if he is going to print something and is asking you for your comment before he prints it.

Did he mention going to rehab or anything like that?

No...Tito either said that he offered to give the guy the name of his doctor and would refer the call so that the Dr. would talk to him about this particular subject or Tito said that is what he would have done. Sorry I did not listen closely enough to tell if he had offered to give him the name or would have had he known what the guy was gong to print.

Obviously The Doc would have had to have Tito's permission. Not sure if a Doc would have talked to the reporter even with Tito's permission.

Certain posters mix up hyperbole and "truthiness." Just trying to figure out where some newer posters are coming from. I've read enough of your posts to follow your POV undercurrent and respect it. I could care less about the comment itself, just need to figure out the accompanying agenda. (I'm also board as I've been at Brigham and Women's for the past two days.)

Very impressed with Bobby and Ben in the press conference.

Bobby seamed teary eyed the entire time. He sounds genuinely excited to be a part of this. I think he gets it.

He was teary eyed? Great! When these tough no-nonsense guys start choking up, it is usually a sign of advancing senility. When ass-kicking Boss Steinbrenner started getting weepy, it was only a short time before he was drooling on himself. It was all over for Torre when he started crying at ALE championship celebrations. Bobby, don't go soft now!

Like I said before 700 I was really surprised. V I think was also totally shocked by how emotional he got. It really took an effort for him to pull it back together.

Tom Hanks should have been there to yell at him: "There's no crying in baseball!"

I don't think it is a good thing for the new no-nonsense disciplinarian manager to be blubbering all over himself at his hiring press conference. Thee players are probably already mocking him. This guy should fall apart completely on Jimmy Fund Night.

He wasn't blubbering by any means. He seemed the most emotional when he was first introduced. Hope the Boston media doesn't make him lose his s***.

No, he's not.

Are you really Bill Mueller? Loved him!

Actually he jokes almost all the time, the thing is that no many people see him that way. ;)
