Maybe he'll do the same to Beckett and keep the beer out of the clubhouse until after the game. Or at least make them bring the dixie cups into the dugout and watch the game.
... and teach the pitchers to cover first base on balls hit to the right side of the IF and make Salty grow a pair so he has something to use to block pitches in the dirt.

....and tell Wakefield to go "win 15 games for someone else". That's hilarious.

I think this meeting going on right now is about Cherington just as much as Valentine: it's a mutual meeting.

They are probably getting the responsibilities straight between the two of them--just so there aren't any misunderstandings. Call it the beginning of a working relationship.

Hilarious now Forsyth but if the Red Sox are dumb enough to bring that relic back again the laugh will be on us. If Lucchino signs him up again the sacred cow mindset will still be with us and you know eventually Wakefield will be back in the rotation with the expected disastrous results. Take a hint Tim; your time is up. Beat it!!!!!!

Wow' date=' we'll find out soon then it sounds. Exciting[/quote']

Hmmm...Valentine named manager on Thanksgiving Day.

How appropriate. The only thing we are missing is Cherington's resignation.

The Sox need to hire a manager TONIGHT who is really good friends with a good pitcher. Then, they all eat Turkey together tomorrow and then BAM, we're on our way to the world series. Life was much simpler in the early 2000s.

So I made this animated video about Carmine interviewing a potential Sox manager. It's cheesy and corny, but I had fun making it. This isn't an ad or anything, i just want to share it before it's also outdated. Let me know what you think.

Carmine Interviews a Candidate for Manager

Well the last time they announced a big move during Thanksgiving was before 2004. Let's hope for the same conclusion to 2012.

Ahhhhh....if they consider hiring a manager a "big move", were f***ed.

Just get the friggin thing over with, I dont even give a s*** anymore if they hire the guy (Valentine).....just get it over with.

Forsyth's next announcement comes Monday when he reveals that WakeFLOOD has been secretly working on his arsenal and will show the world his 92 mph cutter, Rivera style.

I'm pretty sure the Beckett move happened during Thanksgiving too, didn't it?

That's terrible. It's also shortsighted and incorrect. Signing Wake around league minimum is great insurance policy.

A pitching machine aor a hitting tee would be a better option than Wakefield.

We recently heard from FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal that the Red Sox asked the Blue Jays about Toronto manager (and former Sox pitching coach) John Farrell. According to David Waldstein of the New York Times (Twitter link), the Jays asked for Clay Buchholz in return. As Rosenthal wrote, "the Sox never considered it likely that the Jays would engage in serious discussions about Farrell, and the conversations failed to progress," which isn't at all surprising if Buchholz was the asking price.
The Jays asked for a commitment from the Sox in advance. This highlights for me fact that the Red Sox did not do the same with the Cubs. The Sox were either sloppy and stupid, or maybe they were just anxious to get Theo out of town. They had to know that they would lose all leverage once they granted the permission.

The Jays obviously would like Farrell to be their manager for the next few years. Once Theo indicated he wanted out of town, the Sox didn't want him around anymore. Having a general manager who is thinking of his next job is much different from having a manager or player who is thinking of their next job, don't you think? There's kind of an opportunity for sabotage there.

My Canadian is a bit rusty but loosely translated it means "F$&@ you Boston"

Maybe it was just a bad connection and all they really said was, 'What will it take to get him? F**k knows.'

Olney (from MLB Trade rumors) says it'll be Valentine because Lucchino has more sway over Cherington than he did with Epstein. It's nice to know the inmates aren't running the asylum, Buster.

If it isn't Valentine, they'll be an awful lot of explaining to do.

Agree.

Here's what is so confusing to me, and maybe Im beating a dead horse here (havent read through the whole thread). Why is it taking this long? They obviously like Valentine alot, and Lamont was basically just a filler interview it seemed. What in the world is there to think about this long? Makes you wonder if they're really sold on Bobby.

You aren't alone in wondering. I think you are correct. The problem is Cherington who clearly doesn't want Valentine. Lucchino et al effectively castrated Cherington over Sveum. The delay has the intended effect of rehabilitating Cherington's image that he really is more than a figurehead. Cherington is using the time IMHO to find some way to keep Bobby V from getting the job. In the end whether its Valentine or Lamont this process has not done anyting to restore confidence that RS management has its act together.

Lamont or Valentine... it isn't going to make much of a difference. Just make a decision have the press conference and get on with building the team.

Although we agree that sooner is better than later' date=' I think there is more significance to a manager than you do. The manager matters.[/quote']There's not a lot of difference between Lamont and Valentine.
