Do it do it do it do it do it.

This is when I start climbing walls. First it was Oswalt who "we were in deep negotiations with", then it was Floyd who we were told were up for trade and we were showing interest in him; now it's Jackson. And we still are waiting for Cherington to write that damn check.

Enough!!!!! Get one of them them it and do it quickly. If Oswalt doesn't want to play in the AL East, then forget him. It means he's chicken s*** to risk getting is tits lit. So go after Floyd if we can get hm without giving up the whole store. The Chicago farm system is in dire straits and a couple of prospects from "A" ball might do the trick. Or we sign Jackson. Just get the job done Cherington, damn it!!!!

I just read the same thing' date=' but on a different site. Apparently we have been active on the phones to Jackson and Oswalt, as well as looking for an infielder, who would almost have to be a SS. That is awesome news on the Jackson/Oswalt side of things. I'd love to get one of these guys for the 2012 season and then look to spend big next offseason when I believe there is quite a crop of quality pitching available. As for adding a SS, I guess it couldn't hurt, but I'm not so thrilled. I'm in the minority on this board apparently, but I'd love to see them give Iglesias the job. There will be bumps in the road no doubt, but that would be the case with any prospect no matter when you bring them up to the big leagues. We have such a powerful offense that I think that we can afford to play Iglesias and let him learn on the job. It's not like we couldn't use his defensive ability either.[/quote']

A word of deep caution RS84. I think you are assuming that we will have a powerful offense this season and could cover for Iglesisas' miserable offensive talent at the present time. Let me remind you of a think called "an off year". Last year Youkilis, Crawford and Drew had them, and Salty was cold the first third of the season. If three guys go into the tank that puts enormous pressure on the kid to do his part at the plate and it means we have to pinch hit for him late in the game when we need our best people in the field, or he takes his poor offensive stats onto the field with him and his defense goes to s***. I've seen that a lot with young "good glove" infielders for no matter how much you take pride in your fielding, it is hitting that everyone wants to stand tall in. We better be careful there.

I'm not sure what you're expecting here. They found the money, and they put out two offers. Oswalt and Jackson both wanted significantly more money than the market is willing to give, so odds are that they will take some time to decide if the offers are right for them. The White Sox just got a whole lot worse in their division with the Fielder signing, so Floyd's value isn't exactly going up. You're being impatient, and that's all there is to it.

Thank you for putting this so eloquently.

I would assume that if one of the pitchers accepts the Sox offer that the Sox will withdraw the other offer. Are they looking to sign both of them?

I think Oswalt already refused the offer and they went for Jackson.

If they sign both and send Aceves and Bard to the BP, the Red Sox become the best team in the AL, no question.

One can dream, right?

Lets hope so. I'm still recovering from my heavy alcohol abuse from last year.

I think that they are trying to land of course the SP and a SS. I think that they are not comfortable with Aviles/Punto as every day SS and Youk as a everyday 3B.

Still up for debate due to SS/RF. I think Texas is still better.

If we land both, I don't think so...

Remember how much both the rotation AND BP would be strengthened.

Also, RF is not really a problem. A Kalish/Ross RF platoon should be very much above-average.

Will Kalish be back before AS break? Also, I don't like Ross as noted yesterday.

He should be for all intents and purposes. And Ross can mash lefties. Last year looks like an outlier.

If I'm being honest with myself, I think I'd rather have Edwin Jackson over Roy Oswalt. Younger, and good for 200+ IP every year. His BB/9 has decreased since his last tenure in the AL East. I think he could be a huge asset.

If true I wonder why in the hell did we give up Scu? Unless Ben didn't like him that much and He wants to land someone like Hanley and the SP.

Hell, if the money is not the issue... Ben, sign both damn checks! (Oswalt and Jackson)

Of course I may be impatient but if memory serves me right Palodios a little over a week ago we were "in deep negotiations" with Oswalt, then there was serious talk of a trade with Chicago for Floyd, now it is Jackson. Yes, I know this could take time but I think we should have gone something done by now. Just a difference in opinion but I have always respected yours because you're a standup person and know what the hell you're talking about.

Now use your influence with Cherington and get him to write that damn check.:harhar::harhar::harhar::harhar:

These days, I'm agree. I like Oswalt but, I'm very, very, concerned about his health.

For all the talk about Jackson being a "200 ip machine" he has thrown more than 200 IP exactly twice.

Oh. My. God.

Did you really just say that??

He's thrown 200+ IP in 2 of the last 3 years.

And how many innings did he throw in the 1 year where he didn't throw 200 IP?

Oh. 199.2 IP.

Come on man. Over the past 3 seasons he's averaged 208 IP. That's a 200 IP machine.

he threw 199.2 last year. :dunno:

200+ twice before.

I said over 200 innings. It's not a knock on him, but it's not like he's thrown 200+ every year since he's been in the league. No need for bunching of the panties people.

I was going to say this.

Over the same time span Oswalt has averaged 177 IP. Jackson has averaged 4 more starts per year with an extra 30 IP, with a slightly higher winning percentage, while having a .50 higher ERA. H/9 HR/9 BB/9 SO/9 SO/BB are pretty close between them, but Oswalt gave up pretty much one whole less hit per 9. All this Jackson did with a majority of games being in the AL while it was all NL for Oswalt.

Yeah, I'd take Jackson

Even though Jackson has thrown more IP, every other possible measure favors Oswalt, including ERA+, which controls for league. I would be content with either, but if healthy, give me Oswalt.

Let's not pretend like Jackson is a better "pitcher" than Oswalt.

That's the thing.

Give me Jackson for 205 over Oswalt for 175. That's my reasoning.
