Right now this club is worse than last year's team. I had hopes at the beginning of the hot stove that with BV's hiring they were serious and had a chance at contending. However with Ben's filling pitching holes with has beens' date=' never wases, and never will bes, whatever optimism I had is fleeting quickly.[/quote']

Well, IMO the only way that we could compensate/counterbalance these issues --pitching--if we go like this, is doing other things better than last season. We would need a better physical conditioning/shape team, a healthy roster, the same productive offense (kind of), team working, professionalism, commitment, etc. BV could help us a lot in that regard but the players have to cooperate as well and leave behind bad practices and attitudes.

Your sig is hilarious' date=' given that the 'Northern Mets' is exactly what you want this team to turn into, judging by the ideals expressed in your posts.[/quote']

Its meant to be funny.

The state of the franchise is not as funny.

What's beneath dumpster diving?

I tried to translate dumpster diving, but I haven't found out the meaning :(

With 1 month to go before pitchers and catchers have to report to Fort Myers let's do a little recap of our off season.

We've lost Papelbon, Lowrie and Reddick. We lost Lackey to surgery.

We've picked up Melancon, Bailey, Sweeney, Punto and Shoppach..

Have I missed anything worth mentioning? This should really close the gap with the Yanks. Bravo so far Benny Boy! Bravo!

I continue to hold out hope, but it is starting to wane.

Come on now guys. BC has to search far and wide to get these guys. Sometimes he even has to dig....... Oh lets' say about 6' to find them. Never thought "night of the living dead" would describe an 8:00PM start at Fenway.

If the Yankee's stay put I'd say the Red Sox have a better shot at winning the Division as thing stands.

How dare you say something positive about the Red Sox!

Well not to rain on your parade but the Yankees have lost Colon and Chavez(both could re-sign) while we haven't done anything.

As a Yankee fan, do you believe that, as the current roster stands (althoug it is unfinished) that the Sox would be fielding a competitive team in 2012?

Let's see, last year's 3-4-5 were Lackey,Wakefield and Miller/Weiland. This year's 3-4-5 as it stands today would probaly be Buchholz,Bard and probaly Doubrant. I would say the rotation is already significantly improved. Acquired a catcher that can actually throw out runners. RF is a wash. Bullpen a wash, well I can see Bard going back to the pen once dice-k gets back. The offense again will be top notch. Last years team won 90 games, were is the fall off at? As is the Yankees have not improved there roster, the rays will be improved just because of Moore pitching a whole season, Orioles suck, Bluejays slightly improved.

The Yankees basically took a 200 hitter in posada and replacing him with Montero. Thats an improvement as much as lackey to bard/aceves...

As to user's question. Yes the Sox will be competive. I feel like the Yankees have a slightly better team right now. There's still a lot that can happen and we all know the season is played on the field and for several months. The team that scares me the most right now is the Blue Jays tho. If things go right for them, then wow. Best farm system that could bring in reinforcements via prospects for a trade. Right now I'd rank them Yankees Red Sox Jays Rays O's. But like I said Jays could bring up some talent and trade for a Matt Cain type guy.

and why is that?

Lester- Beckett- Buchholz- Bard - Aceves is way better than what the Yankee's will have from 1-5.

The offense should be better than last year as Crawford cant be worse than last year and will likely improve.

they should also get better production from 3B .

Red sox had the best offense last year in terms of runs scored.

The biggest problem was pitching last year and it will be much better this year.

Rivera can break at any time as he's getting up there in age, Jeter is another year older and Arod hasen't been healthy in a while .

I like our chances

you're replacing Posada with a guy who has 18 games under his belt in the majors.

You dont know what to expect from him .

agreed, AA is been making some great moves that last couple of years and I was having nightmares that he would sign Fielder. Due to the east being so competitive this year it wouldn't shock me if there were 4 teams going into september with a chance at the division.

I am somewhat surprised that the Yanks have not done more to shore up that rotation for 2012. Any opinions? Do we think the Yanks feel like guys for which little was expected made headway and will make more in 2012 or do the Yanks think they got lucky in 2011 thus emboldening them to try to get lucky again in 2012?
