I was in a group of pinkhats today. Apparently they didn't know that the Red Sox were on the verge of missing the playoffs. You know what? I kind of want to keep it that way. Win this game, and the Sox are in.

Believe.

It's time for the Sox to make a big statement. Bats need to come alive in a big way, and Lester needs to dominate. Niemann has a 6.10 ERA in his past 5 starts. Lets make that number bigger.

The Globe has declared the Red Sox in the playoffs --with the win last night.

Not so fast. If TB wins tonite, they are 3 games back with 12? left to play.

Plenty of time left for changes. There is also time for the Red Sox to win the division, by the way.

They are closer to 1st place right now than to 3rd. If they want the right attitude going into the playoffs, they should be pushing for 1st place--not the wildcard.

As it stands right now, we'd play Detroit in the first round. Given the way they've been playing as of late, and how well they're pitching, I really don't want to go there. Winning the division would put us against Texas with home field advantage, which is still difficult, but I think is an easier road to the ALCS.

SoxSport is right... mindset should be on winning the division. Not just getting a wild card. If we run off a nice streak to end the season, the division definitely could be ours. Need to win today and keep it rolling.

This^.

If this team has the guts as yesterday and win today (likely), psychologically this team could start thinking in the division and enter into the POs with a different mindset. We'll see.

In the Meantime, WIN.

At this point, I would rather get guys like Youk, Bedard, Bard, and Lowrie right and healthy than to win the AL East. I'd love to win the East, but if it means we have to push those guys when they're still hurt rather than giving them a couple extra days to heal, give me the WC.

And FWIW, TB would be down 3 with 11 to play. Even if they were down 2 with 10 to play, the schedule heavily favors BOS. Regardless, all the Sox have to do is win vs BAL, because TB and NYY will be playing, so you will be picking up games on one of them every single game you win vs BAL.

Buchholz is throwing an all out bullpen session today. If he can get through it feeling good, even if he isn't able to start for the Sox, he could be the 7th inning guy that this team needs. That could be one of the biggest assets to this team.

I feel a lot more comfortable now that Lester is pitching. Maybe they should wear the red jerseys again :) Hmmmm anyone know what Bostons record is when they wear those third jerseys lol?

If John Lester keeps his pitch count low, then I'm sure he will do well. The past couple of games, he's had 40+ first inning pitches. Doing that isn't going win you a lot of games. No matter what you perform like the rest of the game.

String a few wins together and see how the Yankees cope' date=' cause they 'aint coping too well at the moment[/quote']

I'll never understand trash talking while a game in being played.

Wait till the game is over people. Now ya'll look like fools.

I was talking about their current form' date=' including the fact they're losing, but whatever.[/quote']

Next time put a sock in it.

Ummm. It's the 7th inning, and it's a 1 run game.

This comment contradicts the s*** out of itself. You say you don't understand talking while it's being played, then you say everyone looks like fools because the Yankees are winning by 1 in the 7th inning. There is still plenty of time for the Jays to score 1 run....and if they do, who is going to look like a fool??

So dumb...

Cmon man, this is game thread. This is reactionary. Don't take this so personal. If you don't like some posts, ignore 'em and keep going. No big deal. ;)

Umm no.

Read carefully next time.

I said people look like fools, without calling out any names. I too am guilty of celebrating prematurely at times but I dont make it a habit to jump up and down when a team that I dont like is losing when its the 2nd inning.

Anyway, I said that before the Yankees even took the lead. And that is not even the point.

I saw posts making fun of the Yankees when they were losing badly. My point is, dont celebrate before a game is finished because if the Yankees come back and win it you will just look like a douche.
