He's still not Jon Lester.

Oh, of course not. Someone would have to be a huge homer to claim otherwise.

I don't think Bartolo Colon is going to slow down any time soon. All his peripherals are solid.

But anyone who thinks Freddy Garcia (4.12 xFIP), Burnett (5.95 ERA post-ASG last year and 4.83 ERA post-ASG this year) and Phil Hughes (no explanation needed) are better than anyone else's 3, 4 and 5 starters needs to put their pom poms back in their closet.

This is reasonable ... although I still think there's a strong possibility that Freddy Garcia can continue to have a decent amount of success against most AL teams (but not BOS).

What do the red sox have that could beat Pomeranz, White, and McBride? Please tell me you have something to beat that. I don't want to deal Pomeranz

It's possible, but like I pointed out yesterday his major league high LD%, his BABIP that's 0.75 points higher than his expected BABIP and his HR/FB% which is half his career average all suggest that he's been one of the luckiest pitchers in baseball.

Heyman is full of crap with his Yankee hype. Remember when he said AdGon wouldn't sign with the Red Sox?

Well, Jiminez is being traded to the Guardians--according to MLBtraderumors.com

That takes the heat off the Sox, and now they can go after Bedard or Harden, since Kuroda (thank heavens) is staying in LA.

Yeah that regression could certainly happen, although we're running out of time. I think Freddy's repertoire is conducive to success against the average and weaker hitting teams. But if the Yankees make the playoffs, I'll have zero expectations for him.

Some combination of Lavarnway, Weiland, Reddick and Ranaudo would probably be a start.

If I had to put money on whether Buchholz will return this year or Garcia will pitch well, I'd put money on the former.

Yep. I'd give up Lavarnway, Ranaudo, Weiland, and something else.

Middlebrooks is a high end prospect we can spare. He's got to be on the table here.

And *if* you think he's a catcher in the long run, what Lavarnway is doing is eye-opening.

That's 10 minutes old now. Latest is he's still in line to start and the deal is still ongoing

Yeah. the rumor is Hank Steinbrenner has offered his wife in the package. That's the Yankees for you.

What top prospects will we have left is this happens? Will our farm be godawful?

For a little while. It can be replenished. Theo has proven that time and time and time again.

We had a solid draft this year. We'll have one again next year.

If we lose Middlebrooks and Lavarnway, we won't have a lot of high end guys that are close, especially since Navarro was also in our top 10, which he eanred given his age and minor league performance.

We'll still have quite a bit of talent at AA and below, but the high end guys less than 18 months away will be negligible in both quality and quantity.

The Sox will go big time for King Felix or AdGon. Not for Jiminez.

Perhaps. It's possible the Rockies are looking for top level talent AND positional value. Red Sox have that if they really want to deal.

next year they'll have a new bunch of studs. they draft well.

they're also in a position to offer Lowrie now in this deal. Lowrie can hit in Colorado.

Our farm is extremely strong in the lower minors, with the likes of Bogaerts, Brentz, Chiang, Cecchini, Vitek, Brandon Jacobs, etc.

The huge strength that the Red Sox have right now is that they are locked up at every position for years, if you count the combo of Reddick/Kalish and Iglesias. So they have a lot of spare parts. If you add Jimenez to the Sox, you could have your rotation set for the next 2-3 years as well.

Basically, if our farm gets a little depleted at the upper levels, it's not going to hurt as bad because we have young, strong talent at the MLB level locked up for years.
