THat umpire so totally threw that game that it was patently, absurdly obvious.

It's not even that it's hard to understand why. I mean it was the bottom of the freaking 19th inning and he finally had a call he could leverage into the ending of the game. It's just that it was so blatant a "end this nightmare, I wanna go home" call that there's no disputing that's exactly what it was.

I know the term gets thrown around a lot, but that was seriously one of the worst calls of all time. I am utterly amazed at how you can possibly miss that. Unbelievable.

That really pisses me off.

This. That is one of worst calls ive seen in any sport. Unbelievably horrible job by the home plate umpire. This actually makes me mad and I don't care about either team involved at all.

Then get another job. You don't do something like that. Pittsburgh losing on some bush league garbage call like that is absurd.

This is much, much worse than Jim Joyce last year. Unfathomable how this can even happen.

I'm still pissed. The Pirates are my second favorite team. A distant second, but still.

I still can't believe that call. Jerry Meals knew he was out. You can tell by the way he hesitated. He was probably thinking in that split second, "Can I get away with calling him safe?"

A lot of people lose their jobs for accidental incompetence. When it's deliberate, the ax needs to come down.

I'm going to go ahead and say that was the worst call in the history of baseball. Because it was not even close and because the ump damn well knew it. Jim Joyce made an honest mistake on a play that was much closer than this. Meals just wanted to go home. Little f***ing league.

Pittsburgh is in the middle of a freaking pennant race. Inexscusable.

You're damn right, Inexcusable. When I just saw that, I said... Another damn inning, but then he made the call and I just said... WTF?, unbelievable!

He didn't get away with it. Everyone is talking about it. Regis Philbin opened his show this morning with a rant about it.

even if he didn't tag him, the plate was completely blocked. lugo was out. he knew it. everyone knew it. there should be a penalty system for umpires. start taking away their pension or salaries for blowing Horrible calls like this one. or, dare we say it, REPLAY?

But umpires have a union! Which is all powerful, and untouchable!

It makes me wonder why the MLB doesn't just fire the lot of them and hire a new group of umpires for a fraction of the cost. There are some umpires who should have been fired years ago.

f*** their union! i guarantee there are a ton of baseball fans, knowledgable fans, who would gladly give up their 9-5's for a chance to be a big league ump for a fraction of the cost.... something needs to be done. we seem to have too many of these discussions. what would have happened in the 04 world series had the umps gotten those two calls wrong? a-rod safe on first? it could have turned teh whole game around..... make it something like in football. have 2 challenge flags or something. yes baseball is slow, but the only ones who bitch are the casual fans. me, i love games that go 5 hours, 15+ innings. every AB counts, every pitch. something just needs to happen and happen soon!

Crap can't see it on my ps3. Which player are you talking about so I can look it up on my ipod.

Brendan Ryan hit a grounder to short and reached on an infield single, no one covered 2nd, so he kept running, than he realized no one was covering 3rd either so he just kept running and ended up getting an infield triple.
