Ortiz had a good game today 2-2 with a 3R jack, should have a great season since none of the pressure is on him and he will be hitting in the 5 hole

Yeah but i believe it will be overlooked more this year or atleast he will have more slack seeing how he has a history of starting off slow now like Texeria.

It's happened every year since 2006, with or without leeway. It's been a question of how long it takes him to turn it on after he starts out soft ever since he started fading from his peak.

An early perspective of Curt Young from some of the Red Sox pitchers, comparing him to Farrell. I'm surprised to hear Buchholz talking about Farrell being more difficult to be comfortable with-- obviously he wasn't going to really go into it indepth, but its a lot of what I've been saying for months.

Curt Young also mentioned that "all five of these starters could be an ace on another team". I'm glad he has faith in Dice-k, and I hope they have a much better relationship than Dice-k had with Farrell.

As we approach tonight's Sox/Yanks matchup in Tampa here's a touching story I came across.

It's funny because I don't even recall hearing anything about this last year. Hope all is well for Bridget though. While I'm a Yankee fan I have nothing against Ron. In fact I remember watching a PawSox game a few years ago and he did a a rather lengthy interview from the dugout, and I just remember thinking how chill and down to earth he was. It's tragic that this happened to his family. But it's a feel good story anytime tragedy prompts generosity.

I'll bet that the stupid ass that hit his daughter was uninsured. That's what happened to me and my wife last August. Some idiot came barreling into stopped traffic where 91 goes into 84 demolishing the pickup truck behind me and my SUV. Everyone had to go to the hospital. Of course the idiot that caused the accident, who had to be cut from her flipped over van, had no injuries and no insurance.

One positive thing about living in PA is that you cannot register a vehicle without insurance and not having it can result in suspension of your license. Now to be sure, there are still morons out there who don't have it, anyway, but I think it's a good deal more less frequent.

Someone posted something about A-Gon's status hitting. I couldn't find it so I'm just gonna post what I found here.

Adrian Gonzalez takes first real batting practice (updated)

FORT MYERS — For the first time this spring, Adrian Gonzalez has taken a regular round of batting practice here at City of Palms Park.

Gonzalez, who is taking a measured pace in his recovery from offseason surgery on his right (non-throwing) shoulder, took about 25 swings over five rounds. He batted in a group that*included David Ortiz, Kevin Youkilis and Carl Crawford. The session was supervised by hitting coach Dave Magadan and athletic trainer Mike Reinold. Triple-A Pawtucket manager Arnie Beyeler pitched to Gonzalez.

After Gonzalez hit three homers in his final round, Dustin Pedroia said, “Dr. Ortiz says he’s ready.”

Ortiz’ reaction: “Sign him!”

(UPDATED, 11:55 a.m.): If anything, Gonzalez (Herald photo by Matthew West) downplayed the significance of a regular batting practice session on the field. He said the decision to progress to this stage was broached yesterday and based on how his shoulder felt when he reported to City of Palms this morning.

“The pitcher is throwing the same way in the cage as out here,” Gonzalez said. “The only thing, from a hitter’s perspective, is you get to see the trajectory of the ball. You get to see if you get good back spin on the ball or not.”

Gonzalez plans to rest tomorrow and likely repeat his routine on Tuesday (hitting off a tee, hitting off underhand soft tosses, then taking regular batting practice). As pleased as he is by the response of his shoulder, Gonzalez said he continues to make sure he isn’t rushing his progression.

“I remind myself every day of that,” he said. “We’re not going too fast. We’re taking it pretty slow. If I was going too fast, I’d be playing right now. My shoulder is responding pretty good. We’re just taking it one day at a time.”

Asked about hitting a few balls over the fence to both left field and right, Gonzalez said, “I don’t really care about that. I’m just trying to put a good swing on the ball, feel like I’m on top of the ball and through it. For me, it’s more important how the ball goes to left-center and if I’m getting that good backspin or cutting my swing off a little bit. I felt good, but there were some swings where I was coming off it a tad. You still want to be able to work on that, and I’ll be able to work on that in the cage and take it out to my swing.”

Kyle Weiland, the former Notre Dame closer doesn't seem to have much command of any of his pitches. I don't think we will be seeing him at Fenway any time soon.
