I think his career BAA vs. lefties is .291 while it's .228 vs. righties. His WHIP is 1.69 vs. lefties and 1.16 vs. righties. He's also walked 108 lefties in 199.2 innings vs. only 65 righties in 198 innings.

He's also had more career IP against lefties, which I find interesting.

He used to be good' date=' but he's been crap since going to Cleveland.[/quote']

And what does that say, really.

I'm not sure that Masterson suits the Sox needs at this point. But I would not hesistate to take him back as long as he's healthy.

I wouldn't want him back to be honest. If he did come back, I would hope he could be straightened out to where he use to be.

Relax. 2 months of offseason ahead, then 4 more before the trade deadline. The bullpen at the beginning of a season is rarely the same at the end. It's the most interchangeable part of the roster imo

I don't want to have to wait until the deadline to fix a s**** bullpen. We should at least start the year with a good bullpen and use the trade deadline to make it better. If we start the season with a s***** bullpen then we'd be openly losing games that would be tough to make up later, especially as other teams are the ones signing the good relievers.

Originally I wanted to go into the offseason and sign 3 good relievers to fix our pen. Then when Downs signed, I figured that we'd do fine with 2 good relievers. Now, I'm just praying to god that we get one good reliever with the money we have. Other teams signing the good relievers while we're signing Fat Albers and Lenny DiNardo makes Italstallianion go crazy.

Remaining relievers of interest:

Brian Fuentes

Kevin Gregg

Jon Rauch

Rafael Soriano

Chad Qualls

Grant Balfour

Manny Delcarmen

Pedro Feliciano

Hideki Okajima

Dan Wheeler

Thoughts?

Two of Wheeler/Soriano/Fuentes would still be a major coupe for the bullpen. It's not Theo's MO to give out big contracts to MRs and it has literally almost never paid off for any team.

The Yankees are definitely getting one of those lefties. I say we sign 2 of those relievers (one righty, one lefty) and take the rest of the offseason off. We got Crawford and Gonzalez by being proactive and now we're sitting on our a**** while other teams are signing the good relievers while we're looking at garbage. Our bullpen was one of the most important needs going into the offseason and we haven't done much (good) towards fixing it.

Holy s*** Ital, calm the f*** down.

And i don't think Soriano is realistic for this team. I think Fuentes/Wheeler is a possibility, but let's wait and see.

I was hoping for Fuentes/Crain, but I'd settle for just Fuentes. Heck, even Fuentes/Delcarmen might give us enough money to get Darnell McDonald as our RH bat off the bench.

And for the record, I have every right to be pissed. Early or not, we're letting Guerrier/Crain go and signing Fat Albers and Lenny DiNardo. That's like letting Keira Knightley and Natalie Portman go in order to f*** Rosie O'Donnell.

In all fairness, they aren't sitting on their asses-- there is a new report every day about them trying to get a reliever. they're just looking for the best deal, and because of JB's big deal early in the offseason, it threw off bargains.

Yeah, Matt Albers and Lenny DiNardo aren't exactly helping.

It's December 15th, and look at the list of available relievers that suit the Sox needs:

Brian Fuentes

Kevin Gregg

Jon Rauch

Rafael Soriano

Chad Qualls

Grant Balfour

Manny Delcarmen

Pedro Feliciano

Hideki Okajima

Dan Wheeler

And i may be leaving some out.

Now, if/when half those relievers are off the board, it's time panic. And even still, there are still trade options.

Jesus.

i find that funny, because i'm sure you were one of the people around the beginning of last season when this team was losing games left and right telling people to calm the f*** down cause "it's only may".

Just chill. Like I said, relievers are the most interchangeable parts of a baseball team. Players will come up and pitch well, people will get traded for cheap, there will be people on waivers and all that s***.

If they keeping looking for the best "deal" they might end up going into next season with a s***** bp.

And considering that they had one going into the offseason and haven't done anything about it, odds are that you'd be correct.

That doesn't sound like my style. I would be just as pissed as the people that I was "supposedly" telling to calm down. I highly doubt that you're thinking of me.

It is what it is. No matter what they do to improve the team, there will always be reasons for people to whine and bitch and moan.

History shows that shelling big deals to relievers (BJ Ryan, Justin Speier, Kyle Farnsworth) is a recipe for disaster.

There are still enough decent relievers available for them to pick and choose the ones that best suit their needs in terms of ability and money.

I don't see how you can dispute what Ital said. Other teams are signing some of the better relievers on the market while the Sox are looking at guys who would be lucky to pitch in the majors next year.

Sure, there are still some good options on the market. It would be shame to see this team go into next season with a mediocre pen after making some huge acquisitions that should make them one of the favorites in the AL.
