Why do an aging Manny and Damon make TB solid?

Chances are Manny will screw up whatever Maddon has going on down there. Manny Ramirez goes against everything that Maddon preaches and stands for.

These moves dont make them a better team. These moves were done to try to generate attendence.

Remember the last time TB bulked up with aging stars?

Jose Canseco, Fred McGriff, Vinny Castilla, Greg Vaughn

They've lost Garza, Crawford, Soriano and Wheeler and replaced them with 2 aging sideshow circuses. They are a lot worse today than they were at the end of the 2010 season.

Aren't they losing Balfour too?

He should get along great with B.J. Upton.

I can just picture it.

Manny: F him, what does he know.....hustle? I hustle when I want to, screw this...Manny world!!! High five!!!!!

BJ: I know it right!!!???? Im sick of him yelling at me about hustling this, hustling that. Hey Maddon!!! Instead of yelling at us about hustling, tell the pitchers to not make us run for the ball!!! I hate that.

The two then ignore the fact that an actual game is being played and work on new handshake techniques in left center field.

Bingo. These signings made me yawn when I first saw them hit the wire. I get why the Rays are doing it (bridge year anyone?) but it doesn't make them a better team by any stretch. They will be much worse than they were last year and will struggle to make any noise in the division.

The Jays getting Rivera/Napolis AND not having to give up any cash to dump Wells' albatross of a contract is huge eye opener for me. They essentially freed up $75 million in one move, making their team better in the short term with two quality role players, and in the long term as well, since they're set up nicely to make a run in free agency next year or the year after if they're just a piece or two short.

Orioles about to come to terms with Vlad Guerrero.

That's going to be a darn good offense, specially if Weiters breaks out.

The Sox don't have anyone in their system who will make an impact with the big club before 2013. Someone has quoted this in their signature. It will be proven right.

I could see Iglesias making an impact in 2012 for sure.

Also, I think Kalish is going to take over for Drew, which also brings up the question, why wasn't he in that ranking? Is it because he played 50 games in the bigs last year?

Definitely. No more rolling over Baltimore, even though that ended in 2009.

They need pitching, though. Last year they had a team ERA of 4.59. If they could score a solid SP or two, or if Matusz breaks out along with Weiters, they could be dangerous.

That club is turning around.

Regarding Vlad to the Orioles -

SATURDAY, 8:11am: Orioles' president Andy MacPhail shot down the report, telling Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com that it is simply "not accurate." Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun says that a deal could still happen, but for now it does not appear imminent.

If the Orioles do sign Vlad, they're going to be tough this year. Even if they don't, they're a tough team.

With the Jays getting Napoli and Juan Rivera, the Rays getting Damon and Manny, and the O's potentially getting Vlad and ramping up their offense with Lee and Reynolds, the AL East is the best division in baseball 1-5. Those are tough teams that could all make runs at the AL Central or AL West.

Yeah this going to be one stack division going forward. Jays have money and will spend if the players is right and wants to play for them. They have Wells and Rios off their payroll. Those two had about $200M committed.

I believe that Kalish no longer has rookie status with over 150 ABs. If Lowrie stays healthy, Iglesias will not get any ML time in 2011, and Lowrie likely will be the 2012 starter with Iglesias as a backup. Unless Lowrie or Scutaro get injured in 2011, Iglesias will not make an impact with the Sox before 2013.

So? Kalish is part of the Sox Minor League system. Arguing his rookie status is arguing semantics.

Iglesias will be the opening day SS come 2012. You can put your money on that.

You have no access to El Presidente anymore, so I have no interest in betting with you. If Iglesias gets no ML time in 2011, he will not get handed the starting job in spring 2012. Sig that and wait and see.

Even if Kalish takes over for Drew in 2012, I don't see him as an impact player in 2012. He'll probably be platooned at the beginning.

Awww hell no.

I have access to Presidente, and i'm going back to DR in the summer anyways.

Betting that Kalish and Iglesias will both be full-time players in 2012 would be my pleasure.

Bring back two cases of the stuff just for the bet. Put it aside, and the bet is on. One case for each bet. I'm betting that in 2012 Kalish will be a platoon player and Iglesias will be a back up.

Wait. Let me get this straight.

You're telling me that in 2012, Kalish is going to platoon with Player X, and Lowrie will be the starting SS over Iglesias?

Wow. How about this.

Iglesias will be the opening day starter in 2012.

Kalish will hit 15 HR and steal 35 bases in 2012. And will start over 145 games.

Son of a bitch.

We agree 100%.

Absolutely. Is this a parlay? Or is it 3 cases' date=' one for Iglesias starting, one for Kalish starting, and one for the stats?[/quote']2 cases - one for Iglesias starting and one for Kalish playing full time not platooning. I like the 145 game figure to decide whether he is a platoon player. 145 games of more and he's full time.

I am a uniter not a divider' date=' but unfortunately you will both be wrong on both counts.[/quote']

Iglesias is already ready defensively. The only thing that we're waiting on is for him to get some AB's in the minors.

And in his 284 PA in A-AA, he put up a slash line of .295/.339/.379/.719.

He's basically going to be a .265/.335/.380 hitter in the bigs. Not a solid hitter, but his defense is going to be second to none. Which basically means we're not trying to wait for his power to develop, so we're going to get him up here ASAP. He'll be a September call up this year.

What has the world come to? Keeper and I agreeing on something' date=' Suns and I agreeing on something, and NOW Dipre and Forsyth agreeing on something?!?!?![/quote']

In all fairness, agreeing with suns both lowers your IQ and makes you automatically wrong.

My wife and I are moving to Boston this time next year, and then to Tampa a few years after that. I told her that we can move where ever she wants as long as I can catch a fair amount of Sox games. Tampa has the best of both worlds - spring training and 9 games vs the Rays.
