And the dude wonders why i call him out on leaps in logic....

2011 Manny is not in-his-prime Manny. Not even close on the level of production, and even worse, a full-time DH now.

The talent's diminished, the ability to play the field is all but gone, yet he would be the missing piece for the Sox. He doesn't even fit into the roster. Wow.

Lol as much as I like that the Yankees haven't done much this offseason I don't think that's neccesary. We're following Yankees troll fan footsteps. We're Red Sox fans you know the ones with class?

At least if your going to make fun of them at least mention Lee. I'm sure that hurt them.

BTW for here: HAHAHAHAHA Jeter's pissed and your big off season signing is Martin. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

I see the Yankees big move coming in June before the trade deadline, just watch. Cashman has said all along plan B is patience.

He hit .949 in 2009, and .870 last year despite having an injury shortened season. His defense has never been easy to hide, even when he used to have the green monster right behind him, but he'll always be better defensively than Hermida was last season. Not to mention that he'd mostly be used for DH/PHing.

He may not be the sure-thing 1.000 hitter he used to be, but he can still hit, and will probably be very very cheap. Adding a big RH bat to this lineup on the cheap is exactly the kind of move that would help the Sox quite a bit. My lack of logic comes from the fact that this FO will never re-sign him in a thousand years, not that he's not still productive.

I am not expecting a Manny of 2004 to walk through the door. But people are missing the fact that Manny actually had a good year from a player standpoint. He reached base at a .409 clip, which is ridiculous. Now he did have some injuries and his slugging to a massive hit. Whether that was injury or father time or both remains to be seen. Regardless, he could give us a right handed OF option vs lefties, a top notch bat off the bench and probably a .850-.900OPS player on the offensive end. That would unseat Posada and improve our DH position

Ramirez has played 104 and 90 games the last two years, and his OPS has declined for three straight years, he's also 38, can't play the field, and is a known steroid user. He also looked done with the White Sox next year.

No way you can sell that as the "winning ticket" to the World Series. I don't "hate him", but i don't see where he fits with the team. At all.

Posted
Manny would help the Yanks. I think this doesn't get done, because Manny's ego is such that he still thinks he merits elite $. The Yanks are probably willing to go $5 million. Even though Manny has always wanted to play for the Yanks, I don't see him taking that kind of $.

Now he would absolutely be a much better fit with the Yankees, since they can play him at DH full-time if they wanted to (he's much more productive than Posada, and Posada could be the "full-time catcher") but there are the usual concerns about his personality, his health (which should be questioned with the issues of past steroid use and age), and regression.

I think Jacko's stance on it (and i'm grimacing as i say this) makes a lot sense. At his worst, they have themselves a mid-.850's hitting DH, which they didn't have before, unlike the Sox, who have a player at DH who murders righties, and alternatives to platoon him, therefore rendering a Manny acquisition useless to the Sox.

You hate one of our Champions? Watching Manny was tremendously entertaining and he is one of the greatest hitters of all time.

I'm not saying he wasn't fun to watch as a player, but in my opinion the guy was kind of a douchebag. Would I like to see him in our lineup again, yeah if you duct tape his mouth.

All the stuff he said in 2008 about the Red Sox not deserving him really put him on my s*** list. As a hitter he's great, but as a person he pisses me off. I loved him right up until 2008.

Plus sue me for saying this but I think Jason Bay is a much better player than Manny Ramirez. When we made that trade I saw it as an upgrade. My reasoning was that Manny could hit, and that was about it. Bay could hit for power, he could play the field, he wasn't a loudmouth and a distraction, and he hustled. I can only say one of those things for Manny.

Sure he was on 2 World Series teams and contributed a lot to the Sox in his 7 or so years with the team but I think I have a legitimate reason to dislike him.

Tex is saying that Pettitte is leaning towards retiring as well. We might need to accept the possibility that Andy is finally done. If that is the case, we will need to make an acquisition. I think a stopgap measure is a guy like Jeff Francis who keeps walks to a minimum and could at least give us some depth past CC, Hughes, and AJ. We cannot go into the year with 2 open spots for rookies. We have a ton of pitching depth, but only Nova is ready for the big time out of the gate. Giving two spots to kids is disastrous. My guess is that Cashman has a grand plan in place, but I am unsure until it actually plays through. If Andy calls it quits, we're in a major bind
Posted
Yeah, I don't really see a grand plan here. Cashman was banking on getting Lee and Pettitte coming back for another year. I don't think he ever really considered the possibility of not signing Lee. Like I said before, the Yankees should have signed Webb. Would Webb have been a gamble? Absolutely. But when you look at the state of the rotation, it's a gamble that would have been worth taking.
Posted
I do think the grand plan was to sign Lee, obviously. But now with the need and the farm to make a few moves, I think the grand plan has changed. I would be fine with the Yankees getting a veteran stopgap measure. We need something other than throwing Nova and Mitre out there every 5th day. I'd be fine with Pettitte. I'd be fine with Francis. I'd be fine with Chris Young. We need someone who, if they can stay healthy, would be an average option out of the SP role. I like Pettitte the most obviously. I like Francis the second most. Young would be an option, but one that I would like to be the lowest fallback option. We need to hold the fort until the deadline. If we can get to the deadline or at least into July, we'll make a big move. Lee and Haren were dealt last season before the deadline. I would assume someone would become available should a team fall out of it. I do think that Chris Carpenter might be on the radar for now since the Cards are trying to pool funds for Pujols and he's in the last yr of his deal. I'd be down with that

Especially when you consider what kind of offense that Webb will have backing him up, and that the Yankees have enough money to balance out almost any mistake.

Soria Wouldn't Block Trade To Yankees

By Nick Collias [December 28 at 5:16pm CST]

The Royals have looked firm this offseason in their unwillingness to ship off Joakim Soria. The All-Star closer, on the other hand, appears comfortable with migrating to another market and, more specifically, to New York. In an interview with the Mexican paper Vanguard (link in Spanish), Soria told Roberto Espinoza that he doesn't give much weight to the no-trade clause in his contract, which reportedly allows him to block trades to the Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers, Phillies, Cardinals, and Cubs.

"I didn't put it there, my agent did, as a strategy," Soria said. "But if the Royals decide to trade me to New York I would gladly go to play with the Yankees or any other team... I repeat, I would not block a trade to the Yankees. I like to play baseball and I would play with any team."

The Yankees reportedly dangled top catching prospect Jesus Montero in a Soria discussion last July, and the subsequent departure of Zack Greinke and David DeJesus has spawned a fresh crop of speculation about the haul Soria could bring to the already deep Royals system. The one cambio that Soria seemed eager to block, though, is a switch to the Royals' starting rotation.

"I really don't believe that could happen," Soria told Espinoza. "As I've always said, why fix something that isn't broken?... Furthermore, if they asked me if I would like to change into a starter, I would say no."

Soria emphasized in the interview that he is happy with the Royals, who have him under control through 2014 via a series of team-friendly options. And while there is a case to be made for keeping Soria right where he is while a roster's worth of elite talent inches ever-closer to the Royals' major league squad, Dayton Moore will no doubt continue to field queries about "the Mexecutioner" for as long as he remains the Royals' elite stopper.

About 18% of 11,000 MLBTR readers would convert Soria into a starter and 69% said the Royals should trade him by next July 31st.

There has been a lot of speculation as to whether Andy Pettitte will pitch for the Yankees in 2011 or retire. On Tuesday, Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira told ESPNNewYork.com that based on text messages he's exchanged with Pettitte this winter, he believes the veteran pitcher is "leaning toward retirement."

"I think, like everyone else [thinks], if he's leaning one way, he's probably leaning toward retiring," Teixeira said. "I think that's what he's publicly said. It's no secret right now. That's probably where he's leaning. But in a month and a half, a lot can happen."

Looking more and more like Pettitte is going to retire. That'd be really big for the Sox, as the Yankees would be 80% right handed in the rotation against the Sox who can stack lefty after lefty in their line up.

Breaking news!

Cashman has been holed up in a hotel room for days. He's shopping for gold chains and sweat suits online while he waits for his road to get plowed.

Soriano is a luxury. If we are really on a budget, then we need to keep some money aside for a big in season acquisition. And our major need is starting pitching. I do think Pettitte comes back. I also think he goes back to being a 4ERA guy, which means Hughes and Burnett need to step up this yr and Nova needs to show he belongs. That rotation wont be in the top of the league, but it will definitely be in the top half of the AL behind the likes of TB, Oakland and Boston. But if Pettitte doesnt come back, we're in a lot of trouble. The best case is Pettitte comes back and some team that thought they were contending implodes at the start of the yr. That opens up trade possibilities. I think that team will be the Cardinals, as I think the Reds were less of a fluke than people think. And I think Chris Carpenter will be on the block assuming he is healthy come June or July. He is the kind of stopgap I'd like to see. Veteran pitcher with solid command of a plus arsenal who knows how to pitch. Then, in the offseason next yr, we could make a big splash on the trade market when some of these young pitchers will be one yr closer to arb or free agency

Oh, and we should also pickup Jon Rauch. Wont cost us a pick and he's been a solid setup man or closer for the past few seasons. I would like sliding him into the rotation of setup men with Robertson and Joba. You add him into the pen and we probably continue to have one of the best pens in the game...

The Yankees will consider Andruw Jones, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com (Twitter link). He bats right-handed and can play all three outfield positions, so he could provide the Yankees with some pop as a fourth outfielder and spell Curtis Granderson and Brett Gardner.

I think that would be a solid move. I'd rather have Jones then Cameron at this point.

The Yankees have been on the lookout for pitching since losing out on Cliff Lee, and that search has led them to Jeremy Bonderman. Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reports that they have interest in the right-hander according to a Major League source.

Yuck, there is probably at least 4 or 5 other SP left on the market that would be better then him. He needs to go to the NL and try and come back from there. He will have a 6.5 ERA in the AL East lol

They are scrambling right now. Cashman needs to stay the course. If Pettitte comes back, then you're all set to enter the season knowing that an upgrade will fall into your lap within the first 60 games or so. If we dont get Pettitte, then we need someone. Bonderman isnt that guy. I'd rather see Jeff Francis. I think a lefty who throws a good amount of grounders and actually showed he's back is better than Bonderman (never came back well from his shoulder woes), Young (shoulder injury plus FB pitcher), or Garcia (lost velocity with his shoulder injuries). But we'll see.

Rauch could be a poor man's Kerry Wood. I approve.
