The foot injuries can be tricky via XRay as well, although nowhere near as tough to diagnose as ribs. Guys can have pretty bad pain with just a contusion. If he is still hurting by Monday, then he'll probably get an MRI to look for a small stress fx. The fact that xrays were negative means he doesn't have a bad fracture. If he has a stress fx, then u are talking 3-6 weeks a la Posada

This team must have the worst trainers or the softest players, well Drew is soft that is a given, so is Dice-K, Beckett is hurt every year, Ellsbury is soft, and now Pedrioa might be out for a while b/c of something that happens to players every game, fouling a ball of one's foot. Baseball is a sissy sport to being with, but c'mon

I agree. I think Pedroia should try a bit harder. He's never quite shown the effort that you or I would undoubtedly show if we played this game. Jesus.

Pedroia on DL with fractured left foot

E-mail|Link|Comments (10) Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff June 26, 2010 04:13 PM

Dustin Pedroia had a CT scan and MRI this morning and doctors discovered a non-displaced fracture of the navicular mid-foot bone in his left foot. He was placed on the disabled list.

Infielder Angel Sanchez is here and has been activated.

Doctors are reviewing the tests. Pedroia will be examined in Boston on Monday. According to Terry Francona, the medical people do not yet know the extent of the fracture or how long Pedroia will be out.

Francona said it was too early to speculate on how long Pedroia would be out.

"I don't know that we have a parameter yet," Francona said. "When we know the severity of it, then we'll have some parameters. I think anybody that's been around Dustin would bet on him being quicker than anybody humanly possible healing. But they don't know the extent of it yet."

Francona could not rule out the possibility of surgery.

Francona said Hall would play second base for now, although that is subject to change.

Dr. George Theodore, an orthopaedic surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital, will examine Pedroia on Monday.

Pedroia, who is on crutches with his foot wrapped, told reporters that he was disappointed but would do all he could to get back as quickly as possible.

Why is he only the 15 day DL then? I assume he'll be moved to the 60. 2 months till rehab, so he'll be rehabbing in mid August, so could he back by September and hopefully back in MLB form by mid September?

The Sox need to make a move. They must try to find a player that can replace at least a chunk of Peroia's offense and be able to play decent defense. I think Wiggington can do that. Plus he plays short when Scutaro's neck blows-up

Thank you Beltre for killing our leadoff hitter. The biggest blow to this team this season has been losing Ellsbury for an extended time. Now, he is back on the DL.

just saw this old post. give me a break. I'd appreciate what a beast at the plate Beltre has been. And Beckett was a bigger loss than Ellsbury. Less Timmy Wake starts if we had a healthy Contract Extension boy (Beckett).

The Associated Press

BOSTON- The Boston Red Sox today announced that their entire 25-man roster has been placed on the 60-day DL after contracting a rare disease known as osteomicrofibrosis. Osteomicrofibrosis is an affliction which causes each and every bone in the body to dissolve into a pale, gritty, jelly-like substance. The Red Sox management and executives, while concerned, are not conceding the season just yet. As of 10 PM Saturday night, the Red Sox were deep into talks with many different teams about trades. However, it has been difficult, as most General Managers are unwilling to consider trading veteran players or up-and-coming rookies for what are essentially gelatinous blobs. (We are of course excluding any historical trades involving David Wells). Orioles GM Andy MacPhail, after speaking to reporters about his intention to use 'ancient pagan magic' during this season's trading deadline, did indicate that he would consider trading Nick Markakis and Adam Jones to Boston for several diseased and useless piles of flesh.

"I think it sounds promising", MacPhail said, before repeatedly hitting himself in the face with a hammer and drooling onto his bib.

I don't know if anyone has looked at the upcoming schedule, but there is a lot of wiggle room for a hurt Buchholz right now. If they give their starters regular regular rest, they won't need a spot pitcher for 10 days. With only one spot start, he can get 23 full days of recovery because of the all-star break.

Now would be a great time for Lowrie.\

Failing that, call up Tug Hulett. This is exactly what he's on the roster for.

The same Tug Hulett whose line is .168/.293/.302 through 241 PAs in AAA? No thanks.

Hullet is having a disastrous year in Pawtucket.

I believe he's hitting well under .200.

I refuse to root for a team with a man named Tug Hullet on the starting roster. I dealt with Trot Nixon. I dealt with Pokey Reese. I even dealt with Wily Mo, and god help me, even Coco friggin Crisp. But I draw the line, THE LINE, at 'Tug'.

Problem is that the guys we think of as acceptable replacements are people like Maicer Izturis or Felipe Lopez. Those guys cost talent that you don't want to be spending for a 1 or 2 month replacement.

so yeah, it looks like we limp forward with whoever we can until one of Lowrie or Pedroia gets healthy and take bets as to whether the world ends first.

The one guy I see who might be an available replacement, who won't cost THAT much, is Cristian Guzman. Guzman can't be a big part of the Nats' plans, his value isn't that big, but he's hit in the recent past and should be a non-disaster at 2B.

Both Brown and Wagner are on the DL I think. The Sox have needed a solid young catcher for a while, but they seem to be ignoring that problem.
