What a crappy game.

At least my buddy got to play his first game in the Bigs every. 1-3 with an RBI. Pretty awesome!

What? Who?

Well this game kinda sucked. And yeah, not totally impressed by Lackey. He's had a couple of awesome starts, but overall rather disappointing. I didn't exactly expect him to come out gangbusters, but it still sucks.

But damn, I haven't watched a lot of games this year. Maybe like 10-15 total, including the five I've been to. So it's my fault they suck.

Nah, it's not your fault they suck.

Lackey was great in spring training, had a few good starts and has been hittable since then. I expect him to put it together in good time. He actually manages to pitch admirably even when he gives up runs early, which is needed for this pen.

I still just don't understand how this bullpen can be so poorly constructed.

Part of me is starting to think that the FO threw this season with plans toward the future. I know Theo mentioned a "bridge" once (which was surprising to me when I looked at the roster), but this team is already playing like a bridge. I'm just hoping they know what the f*** they're building their bridge toward.

It is remeniscant of the Yankees in 2008, just waiting for guys to start leaving. It is time for Lowell and Ortiz to just disappear and for there to be some flexibility back on this team.

When Beckett takes the mound in the Bronx, we'll be hoping for lackluster.

the only thing that i like about Lackey, when he's mediocre, he hangs around and gives you 7 innings. Beckett gets totally bombed out and done at 3.1 innings.

Needless to say, not exactly what you're looking for either way when you commit the dollars that Theo did w/ Lackey and Beckett.

Lol!! When teams would no longer tolerate Mike Torrez's act, he argued about how hard it would be to find a guy to go over 200 innings.

anyway, Beckett makes it a lot harder on the 'pen than Lackey. Not looking forward to another underachieving start in the launching pad in NYC.

One thing I noticed about Lackey when I looked over his splits, situational pitching, game logs, etc. was that Lackey's tends to be a streaky pitcher, so I'm not so concerned that he's been lackluster so far. 2007 was the one exception where he was good in pretty much every month. But other than that...

2008 - ERA of 1.44 his first two months of the season, ERA of 6+ in July and September

2006 - ERA of 2.95 April through July, ERA of 6+ in August

2005 - ERA of 5.61 in April, ERA below 3.15 the rest of the year
