Gom' date=' I've dropped the issue with you because despite being shown conclusively the errors in the basis for your argument, you still ring the same out of tune bell. Don't mistake a lack of engagement for concession of the point. Most of us are just tired of your s***.[/quote']

LOL @ conclusively. Absolutely ZERO proof. I admit, the THEORY behind it is plausible. The application of the data is horrendous at best. Claiming an OF is the best defensive player in the game...is one. How about you still touting a defensive metric that royally screwed up with Bay, that claims that nearly 50% of last year's Gold Glovers are BELOW average fielders.

Want more proof?

Turn on the Red Sox game.

Enjoy your plate of s*** and mug of shut the f*** up.

Wrong topic, dimwit. You were stroking yourself on the catcher impact topic when I responded. Damn, you are ridiculously stupid.

I hope Ortiz's performance last night increases his microscopic trade value.. He turned on a 90 MPH fastball! My 6 month old daughter could turn on that weak sauce. Ortiz homers should realize he hit his HR's off two of the worst pitchers in Major League Baseball.. Ortiz will be back to striking out today against Millwood...and if that O's closer comes in...he will strike out again..anyone who can throw 93 MPH or higher will K Ortiz with great ease.

Like I said...Papi right back to his Craptaculous ways! 0-3 1K, 1 BB... Millwood is a slightly above average pitcher..nothing spectacular..and a righty to boot...Papi can only his AAAA pitchers...he will never touch another 95 MPH fastball.

Papi needs a vacation. Tito batting a .150 hitter 5th or 6th is insane the way this club is playing. . Hermida/Lowell should be the platoon. Both are hitting very well. Lowell hasn't lost anything at the plate.

Papi is a big issue on this club, along with Lowell. I wonder if it hasn't affected the team's performance.

The other issue is the base stealing, where the catchers have been getting the heat. Well, the base stealing has suddenly stopped. Which tells me the pitchers are now paying attention to the runners on base. I never thought Tek or VMart were that bad.

I didn't see the game, but it looks like it was an ugly game for Ortiz with 2 K's and 2 DP's. There are reports of a wrist problem now, which could spell the end of Ortiz and the end of the Red Sox season. Two nice victories the last two nights have allowed the Red Sox to tread water while wearing cement shoes. The Yanks and Tampa are doing what the Sox could not do-- beat the weak sisters of the league. Once the Sox let bay walk and didn't replace his bat with a big stick, they were placing a heavy bet that Ortiz could be a force in the lineup and that he would get off to a fast start. If the Red Sox lose any more ground before the end of the month, all of the off season planning will have gone up in flames-- a flash fire-- with 4 months left to go in the season. I guess a lot of us will be waiting for pre-season football in August.

they just didn't want to pay Bay what he wanted

I didn't realize how bad it had gotten until last night. I know that he's been having a hard time, a really hard time, but I had been ignoring the extent of his struggles. While listening last night, he came up with bases loaded and 0 out, eighth inning I think? I remember just saying to myself "just strikeout, don't hit into a double play."

Then I realized, seriously??? I was hoping for an outcome that I could easily achieve myself up there at the plate instead of holding out much hope of Papi doing something positive with the AB. The double play home to 1st. It took Hermida to make a positive of the inning with two outs, but it easily could have still been a 1-1 tie after bases loaded and 0 outs. Sad, because we all love the guy for what he's done, but he just doesn't have it anymore.

that does seem to be the crux. And it's a danged shame.

Big guy needs to hang 'em up. He's done. DFA him and call up Daniel Nava to play left field until Ellsbury gets back, and run a Hermida-Lowell platoon out of DH. Nava's earned the chance, he's shown he can hit a little at AAA, he's hit at every other level he's played, and he's for sure a better defender in left than Hermida. Time to see what he can do at the big league level IMHO. I'm pretty confident he'll hit more than Ortiz would going forward -- Big Papi doesn't even look like he's going to the plate thinking he's going to get a hit anymore.

There's just no room on this team for him once Ellsbury and Cameron come back. Sad to say but maybe finally cutting ties will help this team take off.

Did you see the look on his face when he was walking back to the dugout after that bases loaded GIDP? That is a defeated man.

Maybe Ortiz is done and maybe the Sox need to cut him, but it is posts like this one that make it hard to take you seriously. Cut Ortiz and call up Nava? That ain't going to happen.Maybe he gets called up if Ortiz goes on the DL, but they are not going to DFA him to bring up Nava. They would wait until Ellsbury and Cameron come back.

I said call up Nava to play defense in left field and switch Hermida to DH. Not to replace Ortiz' bat.

Papi to the DL is a move I could stomach too, if something's materially wrong that they think they can fix. But what they're doing now, it's painfully obvious it's not working.

As it has turned out, Ortiz's bad start has crippled the team. I don't think anyone can dispute that. When they didn't acquire a big stick, a lot of us on this board knew that it would be critical for Ortiz to be productive and not get off to a slow start. I think the FO knew that too.

All Ortiz does now is Ground Into Double Plays' he grounded into two last night, and that is at least the 2nd time this year he has grounded into a DP will the bases loaded. He has to sit, he's become a big liability out there.

There is no point in him sitting on the bench. None. He is either in the game and hitting or he is completely and utterly useless.

"David's fine. He's one of our teammates. We believe in him. He's going to come out of it. He's had 60 at-bats. A couple of years ago I had 60 at-bats and it was me hitting .170 and everybody was ready to kill me, too. Then what happened? 'Laser show.'" -- Red Sox captain Dustin Pedroia, who was batting .172 on May 1, 2007, but went on to win the AL Rookie of the Year

All he could be is a pinch hitter. He plays an eh 1st base. Hamstring really. I love the guy but the era is over

Cutting Ortiz to call up Nava is not going to happen whether Nava sits on the bench or is the water boy. That is not a possibility. Anyone in the Red Sox FO that would suggest such a thing would get demoted to concessions.
