Grade Theo's Trade Deadline

Simply put, how do you think Theo did?

 

I give him a solid A-, for the following reasons:

 

1. Kotchman from LaRoche was a lateral move but the defense improves significantly. What this tells me is the Sox are comfortable with CK in a backup role similar to Mientkiewicz in 2004.

 

2. The Sox landed Victor Martinez without giving up Buchholz, Kelly, or Bard. They keep their blue chip prospects and upgrade the offense. I'm comfortable with getting rid of the Greek to make room for this guy.

B-. I didn't see a move that really wowed me. Victor martinez is a fine player but he's hardly an elite middle of the order bat.

Im really happy with the Martinez deal, I hope he plays more catcher then 1B though. I'm just glad we were able to keep Bard, Buchholz, Bowden, Kelly and Tazawa. I agree with an A-.

 

I don't really understand the Kotchman deal entirely unless there is a deal that was made with another team that involves dealing Kotchman.

Yeah, MLB Network is most definitely saying there are still deals out there that were completed, but not approved. The approving process can take awhile, and it would explain why we haven't heard anything yet.

I don't know if it's safe to rate him just yet but as of right now, I'd give him something in the range of Bs.

 

Like others said, he did a great job not having to get rid of guys like Bard, Buchh, Bowden for V-Mart and suddenly, our C spot(if or when he plays there) might go from a hole in the lineup to a strong spot.

 

On the other hand, there's still the whole Krotch/Rochey deal(can't YET comment on that though) and the fact that we didn't get another arm. Our rotation has struggled and it hasn't gotten better.
