Manny Ramirez underwent an MRI on his sore right knee Friday that came back negative.

Ramirez apparently remains day-to-day. It sounds as though the Red Sox were pretty displeased that he opted not to play tonight, but the clean MRI is still good news.

Marty Foster is a f***ing idiot.

This isn't the first time we've had terrible umps in a sox-yanks game. Someone, I can't recall who, last time alleged that Selig might have hinted to Umps that the MLB playoffs needed the Yanks in the playoffs for ratings. I'm starting to think more about how legit that could me.

Ridiculous.

THERE f***ING 3RD IN SCORING

lol Got owned 1-0 now Pettite tomorrow. I don't care what they are in scoring since the all star break this team hitting has been worse then ever before. Waiting to see how long Epstein sits on his hands before doing something like geting Olivo. Varitek is horrible glad he is not playing tomorrow he sucks.

Need the Royals to beat TB now.

I dunno. I'm "watching" the game on GameCast, and it's showing all of those pitches right down the gut. Strike 3 to Lowell couldn't have been closer to the center of the zone if you used a protractor and compass. Strikes 2 and 3 to Drew showed as well within the zone. Now you're all saying that the umpire was calling anything and everything a strike. So what's going on here?

lol GameCast is lying to you. Horribly. Lowell needed to jump out of the way on his strike 3 call. Absolute horse s***.

Miguel Olivo? Isn't the idea to try to upgrade your offense when you make a trade?

I think having umpires like the one tonight at home plate will take a toll on the offense's ability to score runs. And if you don't care about where they rank as an offense, well, I don't know what to tell you.

Mike Lowell was ejected from Friday's game in the ninth inning for arguing balls and strikes.

It was a bad call in a big situation, and Lowell was absolutely correct to argue it to the point of getting tossed. In the fourth inning, Lowell was the victim of a called strike on a 3-1 count that was particularly ridiculous, though he went on to walk anyway. He then struck out looking in both the seventh and ninth, and the final pitch in the ninth was also clearly a ball.

This ump has been BS all night long. I am surprised we didn't see the interlocking NY on his head when he removed his mask.

You guys are a bunch of whining babies. Seriously. It's the same exact location he struck Arod out on. He's given the inside corner ALL GAME to pitchers. Lowell is an idiot, and so are you guys if you don't realize he's been consistent with his calls.

That said, the pitch looked a bit inside, but he'd been calling it all game. He added an inch or two up, down, and outside. Up to the players to adjust.

How come you guys aren't crying when Melky was called out trying to steal, but replays showed he was safe, and when replays showed that Pedroia was out, but was called safe. Change your tampons.

Replay showed Pedroia was safe.

You are one to talk, you cry more than any Yankee poster on this site.

Mike Lowell would have to stand on the outside edge of the batters box to have a chance at that pitch...we are talking about 12 inches inside...not a couple

I'm not saying it was only the Red Sox who got screwed. But to have a pitch like that, albeit a consistent call, decide the at bat in the situation it occurred is nothing short of outrageous. You can only adjust to a strike zone to a certain degree. This guy's strike zone was way too large. The Yankees couldn't adjust, and the Red Sox couldn't adjust. That's why the game was decided by a f***ing nubber by Giambi. It also doesn't help that the Sox are a team that practice patience at the plate. They get royally screwed when an umpire like tonight's pulls this s***.

And it wasn't "a bit inside", it was about 10-12 inches inside. Pedroia's play looked like a tie, and Melky looked out after watching replay. They were both incredibly close plays, but those are irrelevant anyway. We're talking about the strike zone.

I love this team but they have no offense.
They didn't have much of a chance against Joba tonight. He was getting everything over the plate tonight. His offspead was very effective tonight. He got most, if not all, of his k's on the offspeed stuff. He was the sharpest that I have seen him. Beckett was a bulldog and got beat on a cheapie.

In the words of the big man, some one is gonna pay.

And then there's also this...

Joba was just absolutely filthy. Credit where credit is due...well here it is. Given the size of the strike zone tonight, the only way a team was going to win was going to be on a cheapie. We just got the short end of the stick. Tomorrow's game is a toss-up (Wake has been awesome this year, but the Yanks seem to have his number, and I can never tell how we're going to do against Pettitte) IMO, and I like our chances on Sunday.

10-12 inches inside is an exaggeration. Lowell had to jump out of the way because every pitch during the at bat was away. He was leaning outside to foul pitches off, and was surprised at how close it was to the inside part of the plate. It was a cut fastball which started at Lowell, and moved back towards the plate.

The pitches to Drew were strikes.

It's possible that Manny had a case of Joba-itis. He has had trouble with hardthrowers this season. I think he hits Pettitte fairly well. He'll probably be running up to the plate tomorrow.
