I do them in bunches Chin. Unlike most of you I have a piss-poor time cavorting with you guys on the game thread and have to wait until the game is over to calm down and get my bearings.

JD over last 15 days- 9R 2HR 11 RBI .325 AVG.

Looks like his bat might be coming around and he looks more comfortable at the plate and in the dugout. Actuaaly looks like hes having some fun.

I think you're right on that Bo but I want to wait another few games before I make any leaps like that. So far, so good. Now with Lugo, I'm beginning to think he has become a big blacl hole for us. He seems to be getting himself dug deeper in a hole and after yesterday's sorry performance I think Pena best place is somewhere deep on our bench, if not a ticket out of town. He's getting worse by the day.

Schill, let's for a minute just forget the Red Sox in this equation. Tell me this: What would the Yankees do in the NL West??????? They handled Webb right from the get-go, didn't they, and he is one of the very best in the league. I will say the NL West has become very competitive and should be a terrific race this summer, but none of those teams have to face the Yankees as we do or compete with them for victories. That right there should tell both of us something. And aside from the Mets and Braves, what real outstanding teams do you have in that league anyway? Everytime I look around ours I see Cleveland, Minnesota, Anaheim, the Yankees, the A's, and God knows who else.

Anyway, none of this is getting us anywhere. All we should concern ourselves with is getting a big "W" tomorrow and closing our the homestand 4-2. That would guarantee us going on the road with an 8.5 lead or better if the Mets beat the Yankees tomorrow evening.

well i was going to come back with how the yanks would be in tied with either arizona or colorado since pitching is what counts in our league and they have none of it outside of wang....but then the halos just got off us this past weekend and are 5-1 against us this season. the yanks have put together a nice streak, but let's see how long it lasts...as soon as their bats cool off again so will they.

eZ, I'm afraid you know more about that than I do; frankly I haven't a clue if the Yankees are going to cool off or not. Maybe your "friends" from Colorado or San Francisco can help do that this week. The Yankee pitching seems to be rounding into form with Pettitte, Mussina, Wang and Clemens making up a pretty decent foursome from where I'm sitting and their hitting is really tough to take.

As for the Dodgers, I don't know. Something is holding them back. I predicted they would win the NL West and still do, but having Pierre making all those outs, no power, no real defense, and Betemit at third, WOW!!!!! Those two have got to be replaced. I would keep Ethier and Kemp in there full time because both could turn out to be outstanding players, but with the money they are paying Pierre I guess he has to play. If your guys can beat the Giants and Padres in head-to-head compeitiion the rest of the way you ought to take the division and get to the Playoffs.

Of course we have Crisp out in center and he is even worse at the current time so I'm not one to be talking.

You mean Lugo' date=' not Pena, right? That's who you were talking about in your post. But, given that you've had some criticisms about Pena in the past, I don't know which one you meant.[/quote']

Schill, I always took pride in my writing but maybe I ought to take a time on that because I seem to be confusing you and another poster here. Yes, I was talking about Lugo, but also threw in Pena as an added feature. Man, Wily Mo looked as bad as I've ever seen him look, but you know I've never been a big fan of his because of all those K's and ineptitude in the outfield, but I'm really pissed at Lugo. If you remember, I was one of the guys talking him and Drew up. Drew seems to be coming around again (I hope), but Lugo's performance up to now has made me look like a second rater as a prognosticator. I don't know where we go if this keeps up but someone mentioned Jack Wilson of the Pirates. He from out here in So. California, a real cool customer and real professional. I think he is being wasted in a losing atmosphere and we could get him I might try and predict correctly for a change that he would thrive in Boston. Hey Pal, at least give me credit for being bold considering how I goofed on Lugo.

On WEEI' date=' they are debating the reasons for Drew's lack of impact. Whatever the reason, he hasn't caused the slightest ripple for this team.[/quote']

on the contrary, I think he is a drag.

Ok his power numbers are down, I for one didn't expect more then 15-20 HRS, but his avg. has been steadily coming up, and is within striking distance of his career norm. He is getting on base at a decent clip, scoring runs and playing a good RF. He may not be worth 70M, but since i'm not paying the salary I don't care. Hes an improvement over Nixon and was the best available RF.

No, Abreu was the best available RF and for a shorter contract.

Drew- .256 avg, .385 SLG, .366 OBP, 50 R, 6 HR, 69 hits, 33 RBI(80 games)

Abreu- .263 avg, .387 SLG, .348 OBP, 63 R, 7 HR, 91 hits, 49 RBI(91 games)

There not that far apart. Take in the fact Drew has played less because of injuries(both have injury bug) and take the fact this is JD's 1st yr in the league, Abreu has had time to adjust into consideration.

Abreu is the better player. You did not reflect in your stats that Abreu has 12 stolen bases to 1 for Drew. If nothing else, Abreu is the beter deal because he has the shorter commitment.

He's also been caught four times. The break even rate is much higher than 75%, considering the team he's on.

I agree that Abreu is slightly better, but not because of his SB rate.

Maybe, but aren't we talking about the better player.

JD Is really disappointing. He's become a singles hitter with an empty .300 average the last month or so.

It's pathetic that Dustin Pedroia has a better SLG than JD Drew.

Agreed. However, Drew is the more talented of the two IMHO.

Have you noticed that they both step in the bucket?

Wha?

Drew: 6 HR

Encarnacion: 7 HR

I suppose by "power" you meant "power of Jesus". Though Juan does point at the sky often.

Encarnaction does have 100 fewer AB's, and almost an 100 point edge in SLG%.

So, + some power?

Hahahaha howdy Gom. You know it was said by others that we would see you again when the Yanks where within 7 games. I look at the standings this moring, and then I see a post from you LOL Weird...

I'm not sure power is of any consequence in the comparison - or any other tangible stat for that matter.

Check out Juan tearing up the basepaths in Tuesday's game, top of the 2nd inning of the StL/FLA matchup (mlb.com has this great service now where you can watch any game or any half inning free by merely clicking on the inning in the box score...it freaking rocks) and you'll see what I mean:

MLB Scores 7/17

The specific play I'm talking about happens 5m30s into the inning. Very Drew-esque...

i'd like to be a fly on the wall at fenway

think luccino is impressed with wonderboy's aquisitions?

nancy drew is a bust

what a waste of monies, and now we are stuck with him and his hammies

Nacy drew has been hitting .300 since june. If we can keep him on the field, hes probably only heating up. He is the last guy I'm worried about. Julian, Manny(thank god may be coming around), wily mo, and doug mirabelli are higher up on my list. Mirabelli and Mo are KILLING our bench, Julian our rotation, and until very recently the middle of our lineup has been softer than a box of Puffs kleenex.

Drew struggled big time when our team was absolutely tearing it up, and when we started to struggle he came up big and has hit around .300 since the beginning of our annoying (recently upgraded from "little") speed bump.

Theo guys like Papelbon, Schilling, Coco, Ortiz, Pedroia, Okajima, Delcarmen, and Cora are doing just fine and were a big part of our surge. Guys like Pedroia, Papelbon, Delcarmen, and Ortiz will keep playing like they are. Coco will be more like Recent-Coco and less like April-Coco because 26 year old's don't lose bat speed like he did permanently unless they broke an arm. And, hopefully, Schilling will get back in this rotation and be better than post 1-hitter "craptastic" self. If not, I'm sure wonderboy will bring someone in who can at least go 6 innings and not be a doormat like Julian F-ing Tavarez.

Don't be a complainer.

you cant judge a player from 3 months wait at least another year before you call drew a bust

What makes you think he can turn it around? He was a bust at 11 million a year. I don't see how throwing 70 million dollars at him will make him a better player.

Which would you guys rather have, Drew's bat or Nomar's bat?
