I'll tell ya what, we got pretty lucky in terms of pitching matchups as well. As it stands, we should see the last of Igawa tonight against an equally ineffective pitching in De La Rosa. Then, we miss Bedard in Baltimore and Vazquez and Buerhle home vs Chicago on consecutive series. Throw in the continued game which we continue tomorrow and we could continue this success for awhile. It is one thing to play s***** teams. It is another to play them and miss their better pitchers.

Igawa's been really shaky since his stint with Scranton. I've never seen a guy elevate a changeup like he does, he needs to harness that or he'll have more repeat outings like most of the year have gone.

he wont be having any more outings this season. His turn can be skipped with the off day and by the time it comes around, Hughes will be taking it. That is the last you will see of Igawa this season.

they still didn't score against a s*** pitcher....OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS, OF ALL THE DRAMATIC THINGS I'VE EVER SEEN

i remember earlier in the season when igawa was pitching against boston our good friend jackson was briefing us on the myriad of pitches that igawa would be throwing.

lots of movement on the fastball, biting curve,an 11-5 slider etc....

i think the sox got 6?? off him in the 1st few innings and the next line we got out of our man jackson was

THIS GUY SUCKS

anyways

it was funny at the time

delarosa is a good pitcher by the way.

the yanks are on fire but they just played 4 with kc and we played 4 in cleveland and didnt lose any ground...

the way their playing they'll have a shot at the wild card for sure and i suspect before august is over they'll make a legit run at the division

Fruitbat on for 5 outs in the resumed game. Good. Hopefully it affects availability later.

Yankees win. The O's made a run at it and had Rivera on the ropes, but fell short. Oh well, at least he had to work. Doubt he's available later tonight. And if he is, he certainly won't be tomorrow.

I was glad to see Mo hold it down in the shortened game. I did have a bad feeling against Guthrie, though. I know the stats and the win go back to June, but with Clemens and Wang going against Burres and Cabrera, we have a real shot at taking 3 of 4. The problem is that you guys are getting really , really hot and having 15 or so games left against TB doesnt hurt. But if we can continue taking 2 of 3 or 3 of 4, you should fall back. At the same time, it is pretty clear that Cleveland is the worse team and shooting for the WC may not be a bad thing.

Sox should fall back? 33 of the remaining 59 games are against teams with sub .500 records (including 27 against Tampa Bay and Baltimore)

Lets see how the Yankees do when August 15 rolls around... in a 14 game stretch (with one day off) the yanks will have to face detroit in a 4 game series, 3 at anaheim, 4 vs detroit again, and then a 3 game series vs Boston

In that same stretch the Sox will be facing Tampa Bay, Anaheim, Tampa Bay, Chicago. And dont count out Seattle, they look to be in the running for the WC as well through season's end

I said if we can continue a .666-.750 win % then you should. Not likely, I know, but win one series at a time and see where you end up, right?

Right now you guys are smoking hot and your pitching has come around. Wakefield has rebounded, Gabbard has finally showed some signs of reverting to his norms, and Lester gutted out a solid performance. Your entire success will be due to the back 3 of your rotation and in this last turn, they were dynamite. Same with us. Once Hughes returns, the Pettitte, Mussina and Hughes trio will be the deciding factor in our success. This last turn it was Mussina, Igawa and Pettitte and the final two spit the bit, but we still won 3 of 5 in that rotational turn.

And like I said before, with Hughes in our rotation, I'd still take ours over yours. BUT, that will be severely affected if Pettitte continues to pitch himself to the brink every game. This next rotational turn is absolutely imperative since we go into hell in about 18 days. Should be fun.

you sure about that?

mussina is toast

pettitte has been pitching like crap for over a month

wang IMO is the only reliable starter

who knows what to expect from hughes

clemens has been on and off

id take my chances with the sox rotation hands down
