Wasted oppurtunity there, still up five runs, but they're going to have to go to the bullpen early once again. Not sure if Wright is going to start the fifth.

EDIT: He is going out there for the fifth. Lets see if he can get through the heart of the order...

Wright gets a to be continued for this performance. It was cold, the touch and feel pitches were a little off for command, but he had the pitches to make the outs (or so announced the fantastic tandem of Sperming and Ballsman). 5IP 3ER vs the Guardians lineup is a pretty good start to get number one out of the way. Atta boy Chase!

Yeah, I agree, he kept them in the game and the bats did the rest. Now, he is slated to start Sunday at Fenway. That will be some test for Chase.

Game over, Yankees win 10-3

The lineup killed the ball. ARod is absolutely out of this world right now. Wright pitched in and out of trouble on a terribly old night. As I said before, the freezing cold takes away some feel and that is problematic for finesse pitchers, which Wright is. His next start is in Boston on Sunday, when the weather should be a whole lot better (mid 50s to low 60s). He earned another start against a top tier offense. And the bullpen was lights out after he left. Nice win one game after having our hearts ripped out.

Will ESPN show Wright's Daddy crying in the stands as he is knocked around the ball yard and chased from the mound? I think it would make for a heart-warming story.

How many lights do you need against Chacin?

Chacin is an established #3 pitcher on a big league staff and has been giving the Sox fits since 2004. He was also facing a lineup that had no Drew, Youk batting 5th, and Coco batting 2nd. Its was also a road game, thus far where the Sox have done very bad

Wright is a Double A pitcher who is coming off of a ho hum start vs the Guardians, now has to face a Sox offense that has been deadly in its first 5 games outscoring the opposition 39- 6

There's a difference, a small one, but a difference

The Yankees have lost four out of five starters to injuries so far this season at one point. With the exception of Arod, no one is really playing overall at that well. One game behind the Sox.

This is the best Yankees bullpen since the Stanton/Nelson/Rivera days. So far, there is no doubt. I was at the game today, and the Yankee bullpen didn't give up a single baserunner against the Guardians. Truth be told, and the Sox fans don't want to hear it, if the Yankees and Red Sox stay relatively healthy, it won't even be close this year. I had serious concerns with their pen, but the way it is looking right now, and I do realize it's early, it won't even matter. Yankees may finish the season with a bigger lead than last year. If Clemens comes back, and it's with the Yankees, the Sox will pack it in, just like they did last year.

Now, when Arod opts out after this season, it's Boston's turn. For now, don't even bother.

Ok two of your posts have been contradicted. The Sox "packed" it in last year because they had injury after injury that started at the All-Star break

Yea who are we kidding this Sox rotation is so bad, one of the worst when the season ends. The Sox offense (39 runs in last 5 games) ran into Gustavo Chacin who has easily replaced Ted Lilly as the new Sox killer Blue Jay pitcher. But yea the lineup will do the same as we saw last night. Im surprised you arent betting your life savings on a 100+ loss season

I think I'd worry about my own team only scoring 1 run against a jays team that had no bullpen and a decidedly average SP. Like I said before, you guys facing him in the fens may lead to problems, but we shall see.

And by the way, Chacin was awful last season and is not a very good pitcher. Well, not good enough for the sox to let him pitch into the 7th allowing 1 run when their pen is depleted as all hell. Like Sampson losing his hair, when the sox leave Fenway, they forget how to hit or work pitchers.

The sox rotation is really solid to this point. Your middle relief hasnt been tested to this point as they have thrown the 3rd least amount of innings in the majors. Eventually, as an AL team, that will change and the pen will be tested to a degree. I highly doubt that everything clicks this well for your rotation over the full yr. Beckett was 3-0 last yr as well and Big Schill started out strong too, yet we all know how that ended.

And like I have said before, we have the offense and the bullpen, you guys have the starting pitching. To this point, your rotation is very good and our offense and pen are very good. Once we get our rotation pieces back rather soon, we will be a regular season wrecking ball.

I have a feeling Cashman changes his tune on not extending ARod if he keeps this up. He is hitting like a man on fire.

Jacko, regardless he is a Sox killer. All teams have trouble with certain pitchers, even if some pitchers are just league average or even worse

He is now 6-0 vs the Sox with a 3.83 ERA. Last year vs the Sox he was 5-0 with a 3.43 ERA

Well yea the rotation was bad because Beckett got trouble learning the AL (youre honestly expecting "2005 part 2"??), Schilling missed a good 4 or 5 starts, Wakefield an innings eater missed almost 2 months, Clement was out after like May, Wells was off & on until he was traded to the Padres at the end of August. the Sox had an ending rotation of Schilling, Beckett, Tavarez, Snyder, Hansack

Schilling wore down at the end and it was obvious. At 40, I'd expect the same.

Beckett has zero trouble learning the AL, once the AL batted him around a little bit, he abandoned his offspeed stuff and became a BP machine. It wasnt that he needed to learn the league. It was him being afraid. He hasnt been smacked around yet, once he is, we'll see how he reacts.

Ahh, I didnt know that. Interesting. We beat him to a bloody pulp.

I don't even need to watch the games or check the boxscores. If Gom has posted, the Sox lost and the Yankees won. His frontrunning is like clockwork.

You should do an experiment.

the yankee bats will win 80 games this year

their staff will lose 60 based on lack of talent

the other 20 will be determined by scott proctor mrs farnsworth and the likes of jarrett wrights little brother who did ok last nite,3earned?? in 5ip??

serviceable spot starter#s

with this lineup they need a guy to throw strikes and work fast

after the 8 run 2nd inning it was all over

To this point, there have been 2 games where the starter got the loss and no games that we were out of at all. Even through the awful injuries and rocky start, the rotation has still kept us in every single game even if they were trying their hardest not to.

Back to my prediction and my reasoning.

The Yankees will roll through the east this yr and win the division going away. Why? Because they can have the 3rd worst starting pitching in the majors to this point and be in every single game. And when the entire arsenal of pitchers returns and the rotation finally gets going again, those close games or close losses will be lopsided wins in our favor. And this lineup is absolutely dominating right now (leading the legue with 6.2 runs per game) with Giambi doing nothing and Matsui out (with Melky sucking to this point). Add back Wang for Rasner, Karstens (who has now been pencilled into the rotation in Pavano's place), and Mussina for Wright and we will be doing fine. Mussina and Torre both said that Moose will return to the mound on the 1st possible day in which he can return. Wang is etched in for Tuesday @ the devil rays and Karstens is back. The only guy who is uncertain is (SURPRISE, SURPRISE!!!) Carla Pussano.

Funny, I remember coming to this site, with the majority of you predicting a 3-2 split in the Sox's favor for that five game set. The packing it in came after the five game sweep. Did you forget so fast?

How could I resist?

Seriously, I must say, Matsuzaka has been extremely impressive. Your starting pitching has performed better than I thought they would. In a short series, I would give the edge to the Sox as it is right now. Over the long haul of a season, I believe the Yankees will pull away.

I don't think many of you can truthfully disagree with that statement.

I can certainly disagree with the notion that the Yankees will win this thing running away.

The Yankee pitching won't be as bad as it is now for the whole season, but the offense won't be as good.

The Sox pitching won't have 4 starters maintain an ERA under 3 all year, but the offense won't score 1 run or less 33% of the time all year either.

Barring injury, this goes down to the wire.
