The way we typically beat Harden is wear him out a bit and tee off on him when he flattens out his breaking ball and fastball. To this point, we arent waiting him out enough. 37 pitches through 3 is too little.

Exactly, and I'm not sure the second time through the order is going to be any different.

I legitimately hate Joe Torre. You send a guy on 3-2 when you have a hitter up who K's 100 times a yr? Now ARod gets a hit and the inning is essentially over. I'd have loved 1st and 2nd, 1 out right now.

GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS!

And, btw, you never give away outs against a guy who is this tough.

Sending the runner on a 3-2 pitch doesn't seem to work out well too often for the Yanks. Especially with A-Rod on the deck, you don't want to risk losing base runners.

I've never seen Jeter thrown out by so much on a hit and run or straight steal. He has really slowed down.

it wasnt a steal. He was running on the pitch, and either got a horrible jump or wasnt booking it. Either way, Jetes has a few SBs to this point, no need to try and incite.

BTW, Harden is bringing it and giving up that out was a fantastic idea, Joe!!! I hate our manager.

Runners are usually thrown out on 3-2 pitches, when it's a strikeout. I'm sure you know this, but the runner usually makes sure the ball is delivered towards home plate before he takes off.

Harden mixed it up nicely that inning by not throwing the same pitch on all three 3-2 counts. High fastball to Jeter, changeup to Abreu, and another high fastball to Giambi.

So, they don't do this regularly? They just leave without seeing if the pitcher is going home?

I'm not inciting. I was saying last year that he wqas half a step slower. I think is is more than that now. You love the guy and watch him every day. It's like gaining weight, you can't see the slow imperceptable day to day changes and then one day you are a fat bastard. You have clearly forgotten how fast this guy was. A boble in the infield meant he was safe, and he never got tagged out on the bases ...never. He doesn't run like that anymore. Sorry, but that's the cold hard truth.

it is different. Kinda like a hit and run rather than a steal. On a hit and run, you wait for delivery and are more concerned with not getting picked off than you are stealing the base. Also, when running in that situation, Jeter looked back for the ball. When stealing you never do that.

He doesnt run like he did 10 yrs ago, but he looks just as fast as he did last yr.

A lot of times base runners will try to notice a pattern, and then take off on first move, unless you're fast enough to outrun the throw. All I'm saying is that the main reason Jeter was thrown out by so much was because it was a 3-2 hit and run, far from a straight steal.

Isn't the Teflon SS for no reason.

I actually think we can get to him in the 6th. The 5th has us with our 6-8 up. Harden is dealing, but we can get him.

BTW, it would really be nice to have Matsui back soon.

If he continues to pitch the way like he has in the first few innings, I'm not confident that they're ever going to get to him today. It does seem like he's lost the plate a little the last two innings.

And it really would be nice to have Matsui back. As a team the Yankees don't seem to be swinging the bat well this series, especially with RISP. Matsui, without looking at the numbers, always seems to get hits in those situations.

Ugh, Cano just missed that one. Now here comes Minky and the inning is practically over.

Top of the order for the 6th. We need Pettitte to shut em down and get something done next inning.

Wait a second, did the Yankees bat out of order, or am I just really confused.
