When he pumped up his fastball he was a little wild. But most of his breaking pitches where tight and looked good. He was going deep into the counts too, 104 pitches total.

A K, then another walk for he who shall not be named.

Hansen out. Snyder in. Prompt 2-run single.

Hansen's line 0.2 IP, 5 ER, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 HBP, too late to trade him.

101 pitches in 5IP

I'm not the least bit worried about this...I feel like this late in ST, guys are working on getting their stamina up and making sure they get the same type of work in that they'd have in a regular game.

I know it's just a theory, but maybe his control was more precise than we're giving him credit for, as he wasn't trying to throw strikes particularly. Moreso, he was trying to work different areas and get the feel of throwing 100 or so pitches again. This isn't just me trying to give Daisuke a virtual handy, I think it's a theory that a lot of pitchers can/do follow.

Hansen is becoming increasingly harder to like with each passing day. Sigh.

Hansen is deadweight, IMO...I mean, not in the same class of deadweight as Seanez or the like last year, but deadweight nonetheless. Good thing we grabbed Cox. Does that sound gay?

Craig Hansen should be banished to the minors for 2007.

Right on that man he looks terrable .He has no control at all .. walk the bases loaded come on man . Ireally think he needs to shave that peach fuzz off

I would like to commend adam for some really insightful analysis. Everyone has speculated that his mechanical inconsistencies are due to Sox coaching, and his mental makeup is being questioned. That stuff is so cliche. Did anyone ever consider the potentially drastic impact of facial hair? Think outside the box people!

They need to send him to AAA where he can hopefully dominate and start to regain his status as a prospect and then trade him. In all the prposed trades where the other teams wanted MDC and/or Hansen, it was a mistake for the FO to refuse. These guys are nobodys. When you get offered established stars for nobodys, you make the trade. If the guy you trade becomes a star that is not so bad, because you got an established star in return. The best that we can hope for from this stiff is that he helps bring someone to the team that can help. MDCis also overhyped. Dump his ass too while he still has a little bit of a reputation.

I agree Hansen should have been moved for a proven star if possible at last years all-star break. His stock was probably the highest at that point, and we could have gotten decent value in return. Hansen is a little girl on the mound right now, and until he stops pitching like he has an 85mph fastball, then he will never be very good in the big leauges.

I'm in agreement 700. Although, I'm not sure that will even help at this point. He hasn't exactly sucked in the minors, so if he goes down and dominates, it won't really change a thing. At this point, he'll need to show it at the highest level to get serious interest, and if he shows it, why trade him.

So basically we will never get any real value for this guy.

Matsuzak has walked 4 in the first 4 innings. The Reds' announcers have said that his commmand is not good-- that his pitches are all over the place. He'll need his command against the AL East. Four walks will not cut it.

Dont tell me that youre starting to fret that in 1 spring training game, Matsuzaka's control is off? This is the most walks he has given up all spring, before this outing he had just walked 2

About Craig Hansen & Manny Delcarmen, they need to stay in Pawtucket for the whole year. I do criticize the FO for not giving up either pitcher along with Lowell & Tavarez for Todd Helton

During the Reds broadcast' date=' the announcers mentioned how members of the Red Sox organization have mentioned that it was a mistake to have let AGon go, because Lugo is not in the same league defensively. I guess they could have gotten Lugo to play second base. BTW. With an 0 for 2 Pedroia has found last year's major league level of .191. Yeah, yeah I know I am being a broken record, but I need to vent. Don't worry. I will stop when he settles in and starts doing the job. I just wish he'd start hitting. He must have about 100 ABs which is good, because he's getting it out of his system-- Hopefully. Matsuzak has walked 4 in the first 4 innings. He walked 1 batter in his previous two starts. It is spring training, he allowed zero hits, and the strike zone I thought was rather small today. I really doubt walks will be a factor for him this season. I am much more encouraged that he allowed zero hits agianst the Reds opening day lineup.

Gonzo hit 161 in august and september last year. That was not cutting it, Lugo is a big improvement offensivley.

I didn't see the game, so I didn't know if he was getting squeezed or not.

Does anyone think we should take a flyer on Todd Walker, maybe in a platoon situation with Pedroia, and he could spell Lowell and Youkilis as well. The guy can hit, and he has proven he could play here in 03.

Here is the list of Bill James' projections for the Sox

1. Julio Lugo- .277 avg, 11 HRs, 55 RBIs, 85 Runs, 26 SBs

With Ortiz, Manny, Drew hitting behind him Id say he has a good chance of topping 100 Runs

2. Kevin Youkilis- .283 avg, 14 HRs, 77 RBIs, 101 Runs, 103 Walks

Sounds on course

3. David Ortiz- .285 avg, 47 HRs, 138 RBIs, 110 Runs, .983 OPS

4. Manny Ramirez- .305 avg, 37 HRs, 118 RBIs, 94 Runs, .414 OBP

Considering Manny missed what, 6 weeks?.. but still managed 35 HRs, he could get to the benchmark of 40 HRs

5. J.D. Drew- .283 avg, 24 HRs, 82 RBIs, 92 Runs, 138 Games

6. Mike Lowell- .277 avg, 18 HRs, 77 RBIs, 66 Runs, .452 Slg

7. Jason Varitek- .259 avg, 17 HRs, 69 RBIs, 60 Runs, 118 Ks

Whoa, 17 HRs? His max this season seems to be 13-15

8. Coco Crisp- .284 avg, 11 HRs, 54 RBIs, 74 Runs, 136 Games

9. Dustin Pedroia- .284 avg, 10 HRs, 72 RBIs, 79 Runs, 43 Ks

----

Alex Cora- .243 avg, 3 HRs, 26 RBIs, 32 Runs, 301 ABs

Cora topping 300 ABs?

Wily Mo Pena- .277 avg, 23 HRs, 68 RBIs, 57 Runs, 127 Ks

Yes Please, but where does he get his ABs?

Eric Hinske- .257 avg, 10 HRs, 38 RBIs, 43 Runs, 110 Games

Doug Mirabelli- .213 avg, 5 HRs, 20 RBIs, 15 Runs, 49 Ks

--------------

---------------

Sabermatricians (not Bill James) did the following for these Sox pitchers

Curt Schilling- 12-8, 3.50 ERA, 177 Ks, 180 innings, 30 Walks

Uptick in innings and wins

Josh Beckett- 13-10, 3.68 ERA, 191 Ks, 208 innings, 24 HRs

Uptick in wins

Tim Wakefield- 8-8, 4.14 ERA, 108 Ks, 152 innings, 55 Walks

Slight uptick in wins

Boston.com has online poll of what people project for Daisuke & Julian Tavarez.

Daisuke Matsuzaka- 17-10, 3.23 ERA

Julian Tavarez- 9-11, 4.82 ERA

It was good to see that Crisp got a couple of doubles and Pedroia got one too. Tek is hitting .103. That's just ridiculous. It's like he has gone blind. I am concerned about him, especially after last year. I remember Rich Gedman going from a .290 hitter to a .190 hitter in a very short period. I hope Tek has not fallen off a cliff.
