DiceK had a pretty good line today' date=' did anybody actually watch the game and want to weigh in on how he looked?[/quote']I am back from Ft. Myers, so I didn't see it. Next year, I will extend my stay. It's a lot of fun.

but how did they "look". Was Dice K throwing cheese? How was Beckett's curve? Was Schilling hitting mid 90s?
Dice K's ball has a lot of movement, but most of his sessions have been at 80%. I didn't see today's outing. Beckett is throwing very hard already, and he has been mixing in the curves too. Schilling has looked good. He's not going full bore yet, but his ball still has some life.

MDC is playing himself off the 25-man roster. Another multi-run outing featuring a 2-run gopher allowed to Hanley.

ORS, will you or someone tell me what the hell the Red Sox see in this guy? He keeps getting hammered every time he steps out there and this has been a continuim since last summer. Pretty soon we could not package him in a trade for a box of pretzels. I just hope he has been eliminated from any consideration as the closer. I get the frights every time I see that bum on the mound.

Jacoby triples' date=' again, and scores. I wonder if Coco's seat is feeling a little warm?[/quote']

I don't want to rush Jacoby and see him go under from the pressure, but if this guy keeps playing as he does we may see him before 2008. All I know is this: When he's ready Crisp and Pena move somewhere else and the hell out of this kid's way. Jacoby is a real comer and under no circumstances must the FO trade him to some other team. He has a great future with the Red Sox. I saw him play in college and he is the real deal.

Fred lets just say that Ellsbury makes his way to being the 08 center fielder, they wouldnt have to move Pena also. Now we're seeing him as the potential successor to left field when Manny goes after the 08 season

Phoning Colorado........

Phoning Colorado???? One more half-ass performance from the pathetic Delcarmen, or another worthless performance from Hansen and all we can get for those two guys and a prospect thrown in is a six pack of Coors. I still cannot believe that Theo is planning to find a closer in the sad and sorry ranks we have for our bullpen. Is their a Zumaya in the farm system who can home in and throw serious heat for an inning? If not, we have got to make a trade. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Ellsbury does so well that we are able to turn over CF to him this year and use Pena and or Crisp for trades. A lot to ask for the young guy, but somehow we must trade for a closer. Early or not, I can't see one in our stable.

Delcarmen looks overhyped. No control of a secondary pitch. Still throws hard, but that's it. He's MR fodder.

Hansen's got the stuff, but he's a freaking pussy. I don't see this slider everyone's raving about. I remember seeing it in 2005, when he fanned two of the first three he faced, but where has it gone?

Crespo, keep up to date with some of the hairbrained things our coaches have been doing. They changed Hansen's delivery and release point in ST last year and turned him into a batting practice pitcher with no movement on his fastball, and a slider that hangs like a glider. That plus the fact that he's a wuss compounds his problem even more.

Prediction: Jacoby Ellsbury will be the starting CF for the red sox by the time the roster expands to 40.

If that were only so Jackson, I would do handstands. I love Ellsbury, think he is going to be one of our best players for a long time. My only worry is if he's ready. If he is, give him the CF job. It means we have extra players for a big trade. We must get a closer even though you wish we don't.

I've been a huge Ellsbury guy since before they drafted him (I liked him a lot when he played for Oregon State... though I never got to see him play, other than on TV).

He is such an amazing athelete I have no doubt he could make it in MLB. He makes good solid line-drive contact, runs his balls off, is comfortable (thrives) leading off, plays a skill position and is young. It just comes down to a cost-benefit thing for the sox with Crisp. I am not convinced that Ellsbury can have a better MLB season than Crisp in his prime, but I sure as hell would call him up if there were an injury, in CF particularly.

That said, has anyone else been impressed with Murphy so far this year? He's hitting like a legitimate #6 or #7 hitter and I imagine his stock has risen pretty well lately. I just don't see a spot for him any time soon. Even if he could hit 30 HR the Sox won't give him the chance with Manny/Crisp/Drew/WMP/Ellsbury ahead of him.

=============

Indication that Ellsbury is faster than Crisp:

Best 'speed' Season:

Coco: 2001, Age 21, A+, 139 Gm: 39 SBs

Jacoby: 2006, Age 22, A+, AA, 111 Gm: 41 SBs

In 2005 he had 23 SB in 35 games in Lowell.

SBs aren't the only indicator. I think triples are a good one too.

I'm not saying he's the fastest guy on Earth, simply that he's DAMN fast. Even if his success rate dropped a bit from in the minors, he could steal 50 bases in a season.

He has been going to the plate with a game plan. He has had a little trouble executing. I think he has the work ethic and the smarts, but I don't know if he'll hit consistently enough. I also like that he can play all three OF positions very competently.

his ceiling has been considered to be 4th OFer. The best thing for Murphy would be a deal of WMP.

Yes, quite competently. He feels a lot like Gabe Kaplar to me, actually. A younger verion, with fewer muscles and more hair.

All I have to say is the preformance that K-Dice had today was amazing. He looked really really good in his 3 innings of work. He's looked really good so far this spring and im sure he's only going to continue to impress this year.

Turns out Hansen didn't pitch today. The boxscore has been updated. Burns was the culprit in the 9th.

Mmm'bop gets a reprieve.

How could they screw that one up. What about the people who said they watched Hansen pitch?

how did wake look...good line' date=' but i didnt see him pitch[/quote']

I'm listening to the game on XM Sat. radio. It sounded like he had a much better outing.

Drew had a nice opposite field double, and Lugo has also had a good game with a nice single, a walk and 2 runs scored. This was really the first game with the top six or 7 hitters the sox will feature on opening day. The lineup showed great patient and really made mets pitching work hard. This team is going to score a tun of runs.
