Probably some chance, although he doesn't yet seem to have the power that Sizemore does.

You'd probably see adam123 without a dick in his mouth before you'd see Ellsbury approaching 20 HR's.

the most home runs Sizemore had was in double A when he had 13. In AAA he had 8. Damon had 16 in AA. In 40 games of AA Ellsbury had 3 home runs but a .308 avg

What a f***ing 9th inning by the kids, including the ever so fast Ellsbury who just scored on a 2 out single from 2nd base to tie the game. That hit hit coming by the way of Chad Spann knocking in 2 runs. Before him David Murphy had an RBI single, and George Kottaras took a gamble going from 1st to 3rd base

How did Ellsbury get on?

Sizemore and Damon both had projectible power, Ellsbury does not.

Oh. Hmm looking at his avg though they compare pretty well with Damon and are a tad bit better than Sizemore

but yeah i see now - Ellsbury isnt Sizemore and he prolly wont consistantly hit 20 hr's

Sizemore is being considered by some to be the next great CFer and projects to hit 30+ HRs consistently while stealing 40+ bases, having 10+ triples and 30+ doubles as well as hit over .300 and walk 80 times. There are only a few player like him in the game. Ellsbury is not him.

yeah i was just hopin that there was an outside chance of seeing a Sizemore type on teh sox haha. Wasnt Sizemore part of the Colon deal?

Most scouts project Ellsbury to be at most...

prototypical leadoff hitter, .300+ avg consistently, good obp, hard to strike out, 10 HRs max, 30+ SBs, and many seem to agree he's a gold glover in the making

But as of right now lets just sit back as the kid has some fun in ST

I just realized that the first time the Red Sox play the Devil Rays this year is July 3rd...

Schill, if the Red Sox are going to actually consider that piece of s*** JoEl Pineiero as our closer we might be dead as doornails by July 3rd. Another horseshit performance by the bum, four runs, four hits in an inning and a third, and Theo's wonderboy Manny Delcarmen picked up where he left off last year by once again getting hammered for three runs in his short stint. It would be real nice if we could start winning some damn games and take a lead into the ninth inning so we could audition some of the others and see who might be our closer. Pineiero sucks, Delcarmen sucks and maybe it is time to give Okajima and Donnelly some serious consideration for the job. Yeh yeh, some will say it is too early to push the panic button but I think that is the only thing that can truly sink our asses this year-----the absence of a closer and that crud Pineiero is not it. Thanks guys for listening to my rant. Suffice to say, today's game really kind of pissed me off.

Holy s***, come back from the ledge, guy. It's still the first week of ST.

I agree to a point. Ellsbury has mild projectable power. He may hit 10 HRs max in a season. He isnt like Brett Gardner on the yankees who may never hit a HR.

I think Ellsbury will continue getting stronger and will eventually put up 15 HR in a season. I think Damon comparisons are good... one of the easiest comparisons available between ANY minor leaguer and major leaguer in my opinion.

Ellsbury is such an amazing athelete that I think he will have a career path very much like that of Damon. He has the ability to make contact already, and he clearly has some very good pop on his bat too.

I'm very worried about our bullpen. They got lit up today and I don't expect to see many of them step-up and do anything great. I think Donnelly and Okajima will be good this season, Im very worried about the rest.

Anybody else look at Delcarmen's performance today and imagined how much better Helton would be in our lineup than Delcarmen in our bullpen?

Well Papelbon looked awesome in today's game. If he continues to pitch like that he is going to be one very very solid starter although I have alot of faith that he is going to be one of our top starters this year. The way that K-Dice and Lil Papi have pitched in their first games I am really optimistic of our chances to take it this year.

Papelbon was awesome in his first appearance. He didn't dial it up on every pitch although he was generally throwing pretty hard. There were a few pitches where he dialed it up and you could hear the loud pop of the glove all over the ballpark. He faced the middle of the order including Utley and Howard and struck out 4 of 6 outs. He simply overmatched them.

Murphy is making an early bid to be the 5th OF. He looks good in the field and he's been productive at bat.

The back of the pen is having problems. Piniero doesn't have a clue what he is doing. MDC is picking up where he left off last year, and Hansen is nowhere to be found. With thisback disc problem cropping up, the FO may end up looking foolish in refusing to move him for Helton or in a package for Chad Cordero.

700, though I do agree with you that they were foolish to refuse to give up MDC in package for Todd Helton... not the same about Chad Cordero. See, I have never heard his name really in the talks with the Nationals. They want a package like Hansen, Bucholz (or Bowden), and Ellsbury.

So far the only way for Murphys to make is the team is for either Hinske has to be traded/released before the end of spring training. Or the Sox would open the season with 14 positional players (including Murphy), and an 11 man pitching staff

You've admitted your interest in baseball is limited to the big leagues' date=' and that's fine. Other people follow it much more in depth, and it's refreshing to see the people we've only been able to read about due to geographics. So why don't you just STFU and let people enjoy the game however they see fit?[/quote']

My interest in baseball was mainly limited to the big leagues because my team hasn't had a decent farm system in a decade, lol. However, like you said, everyone is obviously free to enjoy the game as they like, but to analyze every pitch and at bat in spring training seems a little much, don't you think? I can understand the allure or Dice-K, but do you guys really get into Ortiz hitting? It's kind of a foregone conclusion how will do, for example.

You could never understand having passion for a baseball team. You'll jump off the bandwagon midway through the season' date=' anyway.[/quote']

Considering I have seen every playoff game live for my team in 7 years, have had season tickets for 10, and been watching my team since 1983, I doubt it. Thanks for the input, though.

All in all, I am glad that baseball is back.

Video is up now.

Edit: Sweet! I love it when they leave the video feed up live for the commercial breaks and you can hear the in between inning banter from the tv announcers! And no commercials!

ORS, at first glance you could think that I'm out on ledge as you put it, but look at our closer candidates---JoEl, Delcarmen, Hansen, Okajima, Taverez, Donnelly, Timlin, How many damn chances are they going to get to close games in ST even if we are winning a majority of games in the ninth inning? Well to me we had better get in some position to see which one of these less that stalwart "closers" can actually save a game and you can't do that when you behind in the ninth inning. I remember telling someone that this ST was different from the others because of this situation---we have to give some of these guys a chance to close a game in the ninth inning and that means we have to be winning some of those games in the ninth inning.

Of course, all of us with brains enough to see could quickly eliminate MDC, JoEl, and Taverez from that list right away except JoEl is Theo's personal house pet who seems determined to ram that bum down our throats. What I'm afraid of is that none of these get enough chances to show what they can do holding a lead in the ninth inning and we either have a replay of that disgusting closer-by-committee that Theo so stupidly signed on for four years ago, or we put Papelbon back in that role----something I personally do NOT want to see happen because I think he can be a dynamite starter for us.:dunno: :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:
