No I didnt because he covers zero ground....dives for balls he cant reach and drops ones he should catch. Not to mention Coco makes Johnny Damon look like Vlad in terms of throwing arm strength.

What a piece of crap he is, he truly sucks ass.

He's a real treat to watch in day games as he fights the sun.

Edit: I really doubt that he will be back next seasson. He has been exposed for what he is-- a 4th OF. He has made Theo look like a fool, because Theo went out of his way to say how they were following him at the end of '05 and had a big interest in him. He acted like he "scooped" the rest of the league.

I really like Theo, and like his plan.....but after renterria and crisp....two huge blunders, you have to wonder. At least Mota and Marte arent tearing it up.

If he is traded, which is looking more likely with each game that passes, Sox could maybe get some relief help or pry away a good prospect (hey Sox got Marte for 30 error Edgar)

Center field free agents this offseason:

Mike Cameron

Jim Edmonds

Darin Erstad

Torri Hunter

Gary Matthews Jr

Juan Pierre

Could somone tell me why Stern isn't playing center for us??? He is a big upgrade defensivly and can't be worse at the plate----good thing we gave him away for lopez:rolleyes:

I'd have to go with Andruw Jones....make it happen

I'd have to admit, Andrew Jones would look awfully good running down balls in the triangle and hitting behind Ortiz and Manny.

Next year is the last year of his contract and there were rumors he might get traded before the deadline. He'll come with a hefty price and they'll need to sign him long term before making the deal but like this guy says, make it happen.

BTW Coco does suck.

Does anyone know when Ichiro's contract is up? Maybe Seattle would entertain trade offers for him. He would fill the CF and leadoff slots very nicely.

He's signed through '07. I had a link but I guess I'm not intelligent enough yet to post links.

He has talked about going back to Japan after his contract is up so maybe the Mariners would entertain the idea, since they would lose him and not get so much as a draft pick back. I would think the backlash in Seattle would be severe.

I mentioned Ichiro last winter (on another site) after Damon left and was scoffed. I don't think it is too far outside the realm of possibilty. Everyone is available for the right price.

If there’s any truth to that I’d like to see the Sox go after Vernon Wells. He’s one that I think the Sox should use their financial resources to pursue if there was any chance that he could be obtained. I know it’s mostly fantasy on my part, but…

They can afford him yes, money wise...

But think about this, Toronto will still try to be a contending team next year... Boston is one of their main rivals... considering its Vernon Wells and it would be an in-the-division trade, the Blue Jays will want proven major league players in return and/or at least 2 of the top prospects that are still down on the farm (Ellsbury, Bowden, Bucholz)

It would really spark even more interest internationally in Japan with Ichiro and Godzilla going at each other 19 times a year in this rivalry.

I never thought of that. Hahaha makes me want it even more.

However, at this point, I'd go after Vernon Wells or Andruw Jones before any of those free agents. We have the cash and talent to get it done. It would probably be easier to get A. Jones because of the trans-league trade. Like riverside said, I doubt the Jays would trade Wells to a division rival. I'd offer Coco/Hansen/Murphy + cash to both the Braves and the Jays, and see if either of them bite.

The only downside to this (with all the salary details needing to be worked out as to who pays what), is seeing if that would leave us with enough money to sign players like Schmidt, Matsuzaka and Meche...

CF is definately a position that needs to be upgraded, and all these scenarios make for good discussion, although I think V. Wells is a pipe dream until he hits the market in a couple of years.

I hadn't thought of the Inchiro/Matsui angle before, how many japanese reporters can you squeeze into the Red Sox clubhouse. That would definately raise the rivarly to another level..

I'm getting disgusted just thinking about ESPN trying to promoting it.

Yeah, and what about Matsuzaka joining the picture too? Ichiro, Matsuzaka, Matsui all in the same rivalry...

Matsuzaka is pretty much guaranteed to go to the Yanks or Red Sox. Those are the only two teams that will be able to shell out the cash...let alone the rights to even talk to him.

i think Gary Matthews Jr would be a great option, and his price tag wouldnt be nearly as high as pierre or jones or hunter. Plus matthews is on the rise, while the other three have peaked

True, but after his all star season he'll be looking to cash in as well.

Like Loretta will be breaking the bank?

Come on .. what an overated classification for a player.

Chalk SP's Won-Loss record right up there with that award its useless... especially for middle tiered players.

Loretta

Matthews JR

Both players will be free agents, only comparison you can make about them. Matthews by far has the edge to cash in

Mark Loretta, 2nd baseman, age 35

.307 avg, 4 HRs, 50 RBIs, 62 Runs, 3 SBs

Gary Matthews Jr, Center Fielder, age 32

.305 avg, 14 HRs, 65 RBIs, 73 Runs, 7 SBs

Matthews Jr. has had one good year ... in a hitters park. Loretta has been putting up those numbers for a decade.

There’s no doubt that the M’s scouting report on Coco must state that he has no arm and to challenge him every time the possibility allows.

I’m hoping at some point his bat starts to heat up (he did hit a HR tonight), but I don’t ever see him being labeled as a good outfielder. He reminds me of a gifted athlete who’s trying to be a baseball player, but still looks uncomfortable.

Teams dont go for players who have had career years during the season that their contract is up? You should know that GMs are known to overpay even if its obvious that they shouldnt

Loretta will be 36 next year, you honestly think he will be paid more than Matthews Jr?
