Theo,

Will you ever understand that baseball is all about pitching, pitching, pitching. Or how about this one, Good pitching stops good hitting. It happens every year in the playoffs. The teams with the best pitching succeed. A team can never have enough quality pitching. The Sox are not going to make it past the Yanks this year for two reasons: Theo, 1. you gave away Arroyo and 2. you're still clinging onto Wells. The combination of the two has probably cost the Sox ten games and first place !!! If you want another outfielder, then go get him by trading another position player and not a quality pitcher! Ask the Reds if they would trade Arroyo for Pena and and you'll get nonstop laughter. Trading Arroyo proves that Theo, you don't understand baseball. Ask any team if they would trade any player for Wells and you'll get nonstop laughter. Wells is an old fat batting practice pitcher and it's embarrassing and a joke to see him on the roster as a player. Keep him as a coach or cut him. By not releasing him last year, proves that Theo, you don't understand baseball.

Theo, those two ignorant decisions have probably cost us the playoffs.

It's time to work your "magic" for some other team and then the Sox can hire someone who understands the importance of pitching

1. Arroyo to the Reds was a good trade for the Sox.

- After his unbeliveable start, becuase no one in the NL remembered him, Arroyo has come back down to earth in his last ten starts. His era has raised .89 points and has lost his last four decisions. Arroyo is a #5 starter in the AL and now that we have WMP losing Nixon was actually been a good thing for the Sox and because they traded for WMP Theo doesn't have to re-sign Nixon giving them more money to go out and get PITCHING

2.Why would Theo release Wells

- Since when is it common practice in baseball to release a lefty after pitching 180 innings, winning 15 games and having ERA under 4.5 the year before?

Answer: NEVER

3. Why didn't Theo trade any of of his multiple pitching prospects (ie: Lester, Paps, MDC, Hansen, Bowden, Buccholz, and Martinez) at the deadline for another bat or why he trade all those prospects for Beckett if he doesn't understand the importance of pitching

Answer: He does understand the importance of pitching

Synopsis: Your theory is baseless

I think it's hilarious when people command trades and pretend they understand what it's like to be a GM.

Trust me, Theo understands better than ANY OF US the importance of pitching and what it takes to build a winning team. All he's done since he's taken over is put together a playoff team every year, not to mention a championship caliber team.

Did it ever occur to you, Redmond, that because pitching is so VALUABLE that people were asking for the moon for the likes of Oswalt, Schmidt, and other available pitchers?

We all knew Bronson Arroyo would improve moving away from the AL East (the toughest division in baseball) to the NL Central (one of the weakest). He doesn't have to face the Yankees/Orioles/Blue Jays all the time and he's got an easy out every 3rd inning. Not to mention the fact that when pitchers face hitters for the first time the pitcher's got the advantage. I was very fond of Bronson Arroyo and thought he was a very good back end of the rotation starter. But that's exactly what he is-- a back end of the rotation starter. If you get the chance to trade that for 24 year old outfielder with AWESOME power potential (especially considering the fragility of our current right fielder) you do it. 10 times out of 10 you make that trade.

Also, of the pitching that changed hands this deadline, who the heck was even worth moving a prospect? Kip Wells, Kyle Lohse? These 2 have been about as good as Jason Johnson this year. Lidle is the best pitcher to be traded, and that's saying something. He's a #3 at best. Just look at what your boy Krivsky had to give up for 2 MIDDLE RELIEVERS..... Kearns AND Lopez. If that's the price of mediocre pitchers, I'll keep Hansen, Lester, and Pedroia. 10 times out of 10, I'll hang up the telephone if they ask for such a price.

I think Theo and his team are doing a fine job.

I'm not exactly sure what you wanted him to do about it htis trade deadline? You want him to poor endless dollars into Kip Wells or Corey Lidle? Sell the farm for a pitcher that will end up asking him to find more pitching same time next year? THere was nothing out there. Until they lose the division I'll hold my critism for Theo.

Ok Rich in Redmond, go on thinking that and you will likely get laughed right out of this forum. Bronson is a decent pitcher, but he is also pitching in the National League. Wells is not that bad, and we definitely do not need to give up any of those young pitching prospects, because they are the pitching you are looking for. Please, print that post out and look at it in 5 years when Wily Mo is a great power hitter and those pitching prospects are the main pieces of our staff.

He hasnt gotten a win mostly because of bad luck (Run support, blown saves by his bullpen)

I think we are starting to see the good side of the Arroyo-Pena trade.

In July, Arroyo had an era of 5.45 in 5 starts. (He has an era of 6.00 in 1 start in August) To me it seems like his luck in the NL is starting to run out and he is returning to be the 4th/5th starter he is.

While Willy Mo in his first 8 games of the DL has hit .364 with 8 hits (2 of them HR)

i just want to know what this guy is watching that would make him use the Arroyo-WMP trade as his lead argument for firing Theo

You mean the same Bronson Arroyo that had the ERA+ under 100 last year? Didn't you know he was the key to the Sox season? The savior? And WMP strikes out a lot

I agree though that I can't believe anyone wouldn't like the WMP trade. Yes in hindsight it would have been better to trade Clement for WMP, seriously imagine that. But Arroyo was who the Reds wanted, although Boston should have tried to get them to take Clement and pay some $. Either way its a great trade for Boston in the long run. WMP is the Sox RF next year.

Personally I disagree. Established starting pitching at the age and salary of Arroyo can't be traded for offensive potential.

Down the line maybe....maybe....the trade will look ok. But when will that be? 2007? 2008?

We had an innings eater and true competitor in Arroyo but he was traded for a 4th OF? That's a good MLB trade, where we all know that pitching is key?

WMP's not been a 4th OF though. He was very valuable subbing for Coco when injured. Now he's the everyday RF with Trot hurt yet again. In between, he was hurt so it wasn't like he was rotting on the bench. I think the first half of the year that trade favored the Reds, but Arroyo becoming more familiar to the NL hitters and WMP mashing, I think we've reached the point where it starts turning our way.

wily mo pena is a career .250 hitter

he hits montrous homeruns

his at bat in the 9th inning when he k'd on 3 straight pitches stevie wonder knew were balls may have been the worst at bat ive ever seen in my life

till coco did the same thing on the next at bat

this team was 1 bob wickman trade away from being swept by cleveland

who came in here on a blistering tear going 4-12 in their last 16..

im not impressed with theo epstein

im not impressed with shiny things like wily mo pena either although he does hit rockets

good pitching will eat this kid up until he develops some patience

this team has been f***ing disgraceful since the break

too bad we werent in the national league

Wily Mo has been hitting close to .400 since coming off of the DL, IMO a big upgrade from what we were getting from Trot lately. He is not as mcuh of a K victim this year compared to how he has been in the past. With the guidance of Manny, Papi, and the great Papa Jack, he has been showing more patience as of late. He is 24 years old so not at all a lost cause

Wily Mo is an excellent example of Theo’s long-term plan that frustrates so many people. He’ll never get a break from some because he was tied to the Arroyo trade, and they always cherry-pick his negatives as a basis for their attachment to Arroyo. What other young and devloping power hitters don’t strike out a lot?
