Thats ludicrous. Andruw Jones is good and everything but please. Perhaps Coco Crisp and a couple mid-level prospects but certainly not Craig Hansen and Jon Lester.

Get real Atlanta

....lets talk to Houston and get Roy Oswalt and Lance Berkman for those guys

Rob Bradford on WEEI said that offer was turned down by the Sox (duh) but some other offshoot of the deal involving Hansen and Crisp could still be in the works.

Andrew Jones would be a huge pickup. This team lacks a power hitter in the 5 hole and Andrew Jones would fill that hole and then some. Ortiz/Manny/Jones would incredible.

The thing to keep in mind is that a TON of players get put on waivers at this time of year.

My guess is that there is being too much read into this. Andruw Jones is amazing and I'd take him in Boston, but IF a deal like this happens my guess is it's after the season. I could see the Sox taking him on for his final season, but at the cost of Coco, Hansen +? It's a steep price.

It's too bad that the waiver list isn't public knowledge-- the writers would have a field day with all the names that cleared.

The bright side is that the Sox are behind the Yankees right now-- and they can't block the Sox from anyone. That having been said why wouldn't Chicago put in a claim on Andruw? They've got Brian Anderson struggling, have supposedly been looking for a centerfielder, and he's one of the best.

In the ESPN thing saying someone claimed him, they discussed how if we got him, we'd flip him for Roy oswalt, very creative idea from Theo
Has Oswalt cleared waivers?

None of this makes any sense.

Is there any theoretical way that the above could possibly be true? How do the sox turn around and trade Jones for Oswalt except for after the season? If its after the season then I get it.

Well, it was before the trade deadline happened, but a lot would have to go right for this waivers theory to be correct. I mean, what if we get stuck with someone that we were supposed to spin off? Maybe I don't fully understand, but what if we got Jones, wanted to spin him off "through waivers" for Oswalt, but Oswalt was claimed so we're stuck with Jones? I wouldn't mind being stuck with him, I'm just saying isn't it possible to be stuck with him even if we had other plans for him?

I can't see that they will be able to obtain an impact player. If they weren't dicking around with far-fetcfhed three-way scenarios, they might have been able to make an acquisition like Maddux or the Abreu/Lidle, especially since they'll be letting Nixon walk. If they were willing to take on the contract, we could have done better than the Yanks on prospects.

IF..... IF we get Jones I dont want to see him swapped for anyone. I like to see a contact offered to keep him here for 3 more seasons at 15 mil a year. I know it's high but having Ortiz, Manny, and Jones IMO would give us a chance to possible win one or two more championships and also be named along with so of the greatest teams.

I never quite get this argument. The Red Sox have about as much respect as any team in baseball at this point. I would bet that they are in the top three teams in team wins over the past 3-4 seasons and nobody sees them as the underdog anymore... unless they play the Yankees. The 2003 team was probably the best hitting team since the 1927 Yankees, the 2004 team won the series, and last year they won something like 95 games and made the playoffs. Yet again this season we have the best back to back duo in any lineup, possibly since Ruth's day. The Sox of this era will probably be named along with some of the great teams and eras (probably much like the Brooklyn dodgers of the 40's and 50's).

Again, more talk about "dicking around". Good thing he "dicked around" with 3 team deals in 04 ... or we'd still be waiting for a World Series.

Who's talking about '04? He f***ed up this year. Other teams made moves to improve their teams for the stretch run, but apparently the Red Sox are the only team concerned about the future and apparently teams want a higher price from the Red Sox than other teams. Maybe the truth is that Theo and the other two stooges just f***ed up for the second year in a row.

I wasn't dissappointed with the big moves they didn't make, but with the small moves that other teams made that I wanted the Sox to be in on. To me, the future for the sox is bright and Lester, Delcarmen, Papelbon and Hansen should be untouchable. They'll provide some great pitching help and payroll flexibility for a long time. What dissappointed me was the small moves out there. Oliver Perez cost the mets nothing. Although he hasn't been good in 2 years, he is still just 24 and has a great arm, he cost nothing basically. Craig Wilson is a great bat to have for the Yankees, also cost them NOTHING, now the Sox have Lopez, which I think is an equal move but I would have liked to see the sox come out of the deadline with some bench depth. I think that a couple of small deals is all we needed.

I agree. I could understand that a blockbuster trade could not be completed at the deadline, but certainly there were smaller deals that could've been done that would have bolstered this sagging, limping team. Doing nothing was a mistake. There are no excuses. Theo has to accountable and not make excuses.
