If it's their last game in the opposing team's stadium.

Say it's Bernie's retirement year this year. Does he get a standing O at his last game in Fenway? Does Ortiz get a standing O if he retires as a Red Sox and is playing his last game at Yankee stadium?

Red Sox players who would get a standing O from me if it's their last game in the Bronx: Ortiz, Varitek (I would have put Pedro and Nomar in here also).

Yankees who I THINK may get at least some cheers at their last game in Fenway: Mo, Bernie...maybeeee Jeter (big maybe).

Thoughts?

Bernie got a standing O last year at Fenway if I remember correctly. But yeah I agree pretty much with that list but I personally don't see Yankee fans giving standing O's to any Red Sox. I'm sure some of the ones on this board might, but I don't think the majority would.

I really, really, really doubt anyone would give a standing O at Yankee stadium, and if I was ever going to, it'd be to Nomar, Pedro, or Olerud.........who aren't even Sox any more

Call me crazy, but Ill be the first one on my feet either later this season or early next, when Mastui comes back for his first game at Fenway. Hell, I may try to get tickets to his first game back at the Stadium just for that reason.

Too bad that won't ever happen. He couldn't do that to the Yankee fans, and he'd stay in New York anyway. He's the type of guy that would take a home town discount IMO.

Respectable Yanks that I'd give a standing O too: Matsui, Mussina, Mo, Jeter, Bernie

Unfortunately Nomi Japan doesn't have an MLB team. :dunno:

Matsui is one of the few yankees who legitimately scare me. A veritable Red Sox killer.

I thought alot about this when he went down with his injury. The reception he gets when he comes back (whether it's this season or next) is going to be amazing.

haha that was pretty funny, i needed that.

No doubt I'd give a standing O to Ortiz. The guy really amazes me. There's no way I'd clap for Manny, Varitek, Schilling, or Timlin. Wakefield basically goes without saying. He's been there the longest and he's the guy on the Sox I have the most respect for. He seems like an awesome guy who is all Sox all the time. He's devoted and does whatever you need him to do, whether be a starting guy or helping from the BP. So basically I'd only cheer for Ortiz and Wakekfield. Other than that no one comes to mind.

isnt he a japanese guy playing 10,000 miles from home?

i do respect him,he deserves it

breaks his wrist going for a ball and then apologizes to his teamates??

could you see arod apologizing for getting hurt?

anyways

bernie jetsey posada and torre get my respect

sheffield is their best player and the 1 i fear most

and ya

giambi for bouncing back and taking on the press the nation and the american league with his mouth shut and head held high

you dont have to like the guy and you shouldnt for what he did with the roids but he paid his dues with his health and the beating he took in the press and came back to have a great 05 and is their best clutch hitter in 06 and for that and that alone i applaud him.

I think I've heard that Mussina is a prick.

As for Bernie, did he not spurn the Sox a few years back when he was a FA...had the Sox bid up the price, then re-signed with the Yanks and said "I never intended to leave"...you may call it business but fck him.

It's what players who are loyal to their team do. I love Bernie for that reason. He'll see who's interested in him, see how much he could make, then take the Yankees home town discount. He's a team player, and he's the nicest guy (arguably, I guess) to ever play the game.

I wouldn't know if Mussina is a prick, but that doesn't take anything away from his performance. He keeps to himself, and he goes out and does his job and never complains.

I like this thread. I see a lot of bickering amoungst Red Sox/Yankee fans but this thread is full of positive thoughts about the rival team, and during a Yanks/Red Sox series no less! :)

Alright sorry to interrupt lol continue..

I say Mo, Jeter, Mussina and Matsui. I have always like mussina. Ive never really hated jeter hes kind of the anti-arod plays hard. Matsui i just have to respect. Rivera i hate but if itwas the last game ide calp for him hes been great and keeps his mouth shut. And Pinstrip pride your right this is a good thread.

Not to be confrontational, but are you saying that A-Rod doesn't play hard?

In terms of this thread, I would have probably cheered Nomar and Pedro if I had know it was there last game with the Red Sox. Also, I would have to think about Ortiz because it is so tough to ignore how fantastic a hitter he is.

I'll always picture Moose as an Oriole anyway. I respect the hell out of Jeter and if Jeter was a Sox, he would be a GOD here. I'd cheer Mo and Matsui as well. The only Yankees that ever had a soft spot in my heart were Bernie and Paul O'Neill so Bernie would get a cheer as well. The rest can go f*** themselves

Arod would apologize but he wouldn't mean it.

Id give a standing O to Jeter, Bernie, Matsui when they play their last game at the Fens no matter the uniform. I willl NOT give an O to Posada, Sheff, Giambi, ARod, and Johnson is on the bubble (*******, but has had a great career)

Why not Posada? Don't tell me the pee on his hands influences your decision.

It's likely that Jeter will get his 2000th hit tonight, how will Fenway react to that?

If history is any guide, the same way they have over the years to similar milestones for other players.

Standing Ovation.

depends on the time of the hit

if he gets the go ahead hit in the 9th??

outside of it being an act of God

it wont generate a favorable response from 36,000 people who each paid over 100 a seat to watch the sox lose...

if it happens in the 1st??

small applause,maybe a nod....it aint 3000 hits or 500hrs

its a nice milestone

I'll have to think about this one. Right now, I believe I would only possibly giving a standing 'O' to Bernie and Jeter. Giving Jeter a standing boo-vation would probably be the right way for him to go out of Fenway, though.

 that made me laugh. Jeter probably would be so surprised by anything other than boos than he'd be useless for teh rest of the game.
