Apparently both Nieman and Davis have shoulder soreness. And Vazquez has a deadarm. I think with the Sox rotation, I don't see why people would continue to believe they're dead.

Obviously those injuries change things.

Still, the Sox have to find a way to start scoring gobs of runs.

True, those injuries could end up being a big factor for Tampa but they have 2 very capable replacements right now.

Pena just went on the DL I believe.

Rays lineup is terrible and has been due for a regression for a while. Longoria and Crawford are the only guys above .800 OPS and then Pena at .772 (1B hitting .212). After that the lineup takes a complete nose dive.

I said it at the beginning of the season-- Wade/Niemann/Price have very young arms. They already have 400+ innings this season, which is more than all of their combined past seasons in their major league careers. And they've been so good this year, their replacements might not be adequate.

I remember calling a Rays pitching regression and someone else calling their offense regression early in the season. People here were blowing loads over Zobrist and his unsustainable HR/FB rate, and as usual, it normalized. Ditto with Bartlett, and Upton's taken his under-performance act to a whole new level. As for the pitching staff, they've gone from an otherwordly 2.80 ERA to a 3.66 mark. And that bullpen's still due for a regression. It could still happen.

As for still thinking the Sox don't have a shot, i was reading a Rosenthal article the other day, and came along this gem:

Don't bury the Red Sox just yet.

With this little paragraph of particular interest:

Yet, Sox fans need not wallow in self-pity, though for some it remains their preferred state of existence, even after two World Series titles in the past seven seasons.

Both Tampa and the Yankees, as well as the Sox themselves, are flawed clubs, be it due to injury, age or ineffectiveness, and nothing's set in stone. Need to let the season play itself out. Baseball-related predictions are usually wrong.

I'm not surprised to see Morrow have a near no-hitter, or a ton of strikeouts. This guy nearly no-hit the Yankees a while back when he was on the Mariners. He was the 5th pick in 2006 and drew a lot of comparisons to Joba Chamberlain.

Rich Harden pitched into the 7 with a no no but had a pitch count at 110 and was just off of the DL, he issued a walk with 2 outs then was pulled by the coke addicted manager. He was then replaced by matt harrision for 1 out. Darren O'day then pitched the eighth and gave up no hits. Finally the ninth inning came along and texas put in their closer Nefatli Feliz who got one out in the 9 but then faced mauer who got a hit off him breaking up the no hitter.
