But excuse me' date=' for several years when the Yankees were good, the Red Sox were not and had no reason to look at the scoreboard, hence no excuse for their "obsessive" behaivor. And yes, in the early '90s I did see this type of behaivor from Red Sox fans. Not to the degree as today, but I still saw it.[/quote']

Oh come on Sean. In the early nineties you were 3 or 4, at most 5, years old.

Quoted for truth.

 Owned.

But I think it would be closer to 1 or 2 or 3 years old.

True, but that doent mean that what I say is inaccurate. What I described about Sox fan's behaivor at that time was very accurate. And despite my age, I did still witness it.

How do you know? When you start judging the diehard fans of a team you're talking out of your ass. You can't possibly know what all diehard fans are like. You know what the general fanbase is like because there's a trend in behavior among the majority of them.

You're right. It is just based on observation and reputation. But am I wrong?

Ok...on to another important topic. My disgust for the New York Yankees and the beginning of my "Steinbrenner-mode."

SInce he was here i've always defended Alex Rodriguez because he is the best active player in the game. But right now i'm willing to accept that he can't handle New York and would no mind trading him at all. Preferrably to an NL team, but anyone who will give us a good package is acceptable. My ideal return package would include perhaps Ervin Santana, Casey Kotchman, Scot Sheilds, and maybe a prospect. idk if the Angels would do that or not, but they would most likely be the biggest suitor for Alex. Also, we would be able to let Eric Duncan return to 3rd base.

As for the picthing staff, I would love to trade Randy too. The only place he would go is Arizona, so we have to just take maybe a prospect or something. Regardless what the return package is, get him out of here.

Under no circumstances should we pick up Mussina's option. I would love to bring him back for another year, but at a much cheaper price. That's on him.

Sheffield doesn't come back. End of story.

I love Matsui, and am not suggesting trading him, but if the right offer presented itself I wouldnt be opposed to it.

I would definately look into signing Eric Gagne for setup duties. It sounds glutonous (sp), but with his injuries the past few years and the Dodgers' most likely letting him hit the market, we could probably get him at a reasonable price. We would however have to outbid other teams who would give him the opportunity to close.

Farnsworth has to go.

...i'm pretty sick and feel like s***, so i'll cut this rant short right there.

I think this team has a lot of changes ahead of it and I think it begins with Torre. These last 3 years in particular has been horrible flops. 2004 speaks for itself.....2005 it took them untill July to start playing fairly well and they needed miracle proformences from guys like Aaron Small and Shawn Chacon to make it. If you are truly honest with yourself they should not have made the post season and 2006 they went out there and got out played in pretty much every part of the game.

I think this team also needs major changes in the pitching department. Out with the old and in with the new. I have been in favor of resigning Mussina however I am now against it. Let him walk and take the draft picks. Clearly they need to buy Jaret Wright out of his contract. Let Cory Lidle go as well. They also need to some how get rid of Carl Pavano. He hasnt pitched for this team in a year plus and I can still feel his horrible presence. Unless Randy Johnson retires there is really nothing you can do about him so that leaves you with Randy and Wang and go from there. The bullpen is also a problem that needs to be addressed.

There isnt much wiggle room with the offense. Clearly you let Sheff walk and I would explore an A-Rod trade.

Offseason Checklist:

__ Trade A-Rod (Find suitable 3B )

__ Fire Joe Torre

__ Get Rid of Jaret Wright

__ Sign Zito (or Matsuzaka...or both.)

__ Decline Sheffield's Option

__ Trade Abreu (The Melkman should not be a 4th OF)

__ Order a Hit on Carl Pavano

__ Convince Randy Johnson to Fade into the Night

...there will be more when I think of it.

I still cannot understand why it is Torre's fault. If your lineup had just a couple players that bought into Torre's classy philosophy, I think you would have dominated the Tigers.

I think if you guys keep Melky and Robinson Cano on, they are the type of players the Yankees were built on. They are the type I can respect.

Mike Myers making sure this offseason includes another "former Sox to NY" headline

Boston Globe

Tempting him with the Apple

Yankee lefty specialist Mike Myers says he'll try to lure Mike Timlin into pinstripes if the set up man wants to play another year. ``I'm not sure what Mike wants to do or if the Red Sox plan on re-signing him," said Myers, ``but I'll definitely put my 2 cents in on his behalf here if they don't. He'd be a nice addition to our bullpen."

If you get rid of Sheff and Abreu, you only have two OF's. Who would you plan on being your RF?

I hope you are right. Abreu produced 3x as many VORP runs for the Yankees as Melky-McGamer in less than 1/2 the PAs.

wheres that guy with the ny daily cover of steinbrenner and the sam giancanna sunglasses with the quote

WE'LL WIN IT?

poor george....god i feel bad

tuff break for the yanks

and once again for the 99th outta 100th year it shows pitching will beat hitting

despite a great 9 that included a 342 hitter batting 9th and last years mvp hitting 8th detroit humiliated ny after losing 3 straight to kc and 5outta6 to blow the division.

congrads to detroit

they deserved it

Matsui in right? His arm is only slightly stronger than Damon's. Teams would go first to third like crazy.

Thats something that's crossed my mind a lot the past 2 years. How nice would Timlin look in pinstripes?

ok..i'll continue with my rant right here....

Go after Zito, but dont overspend. If the Mets or Padres want to give him an outrageous sum of money, let them. But there definately has to be an effort made.

Matsuzaka will most likely be a Yankee, so make that happen. Thats a gamble i'm willing to take. Following him the past 3 years or so in Japan, and seeing him in the WBC first-hand; I think he can potentially be great in this rotation.

I offer Andy Pettitte a 2 year contract. I realize that he has been injury prone these past few years, but Andy can win the big game. I'm sure a lot of you won't agree with me, but I definately persue Andy.

If Lou does indeed take over, don't expect A-Rod or RJ to go anywhere.

Like ATG said, spend $4 and buyout Wright's last year.

I would definately explore a trade for Pavano, but I wouldnt be opposed to letting him start the season out. I want to give him another chance.

I, personally, would want to keep Craig Wilson around because I think that he is a valuable player due to his versatility and the fact that he can get a big hit off the bench for you, particularily against lefties. This likely won't happen, but if it were up to me, Wilson would be back next year.

I would love to bring Bernie back, but if someone other than Joe (or one of his coaches, past or present; Girardi, Mazzilli, Mattingly, etc.) manages the team it would be best to let him go. He would get absolutely no playing time otherwise and would be a wasted roster spot.

I'm not thrilled about Melky being the 4th outfielder, but unlike previous suggestions, I don't look to trade any of the outfielders (unless, like i mentioned before, a good deal for Matsui presents itself). We have a solid outfield. Only thing I would do differently with managing the outfield, which Joe has done this year, is rotate and rest them more. I've said for a few months now that with Melky being the 4th outfielder I expect him to get 3-4 starts per week, and I think that would be for the best. I say give each starting outfielder at least one off day a week.

Ron Villone is a free agent, and I wouldnt be opposed to bringing him back. But I would also explore other lefty-reliever possibilities. J.C. Romero is a free agent. Look into getting him, perhaps.

I would bring Dotel back, as well. At the top of his game, Octavio Dotel is a great pitcher. He never really had a chance this season, but I think he can possibly be a great pitcher out of the pen for us coming into the start of the season healthy and at full strength. I also look into Justin Speier and perhaps LaTroy Hawkins. I certainly wouldnt mind bringing Keith Foulke in, but that'll never happen. Like I mentioned in my last post, I think it would be a great idea to bring Eric Gagne in as a setup guy.

A lot of how the roster will look next year, and the changes that occur during the offseason depend on who the manager is. We'll have to wait and see.

...i've got so many ideas and suggestions, but i'm so tired and drugged up on painkillers that I can't really express them right now.

ARod on Ebay

Excerpts

1.If you teach an EMS class Arod chokes all the time. Youll have tons of practice trying to revive him.

2.Arod is a perfect gentleman. He would never hit a woman. 2 days ago a woman walked up to him and kicked him in the balls, I asked her why she wasnt worried about him hitting her back. She told me she would never do that in April but had nothing to fear. Arod couldnt hit her in October if he wanted to.

3.Build up your little leaguers confidence. If you have a child is is strugggling with his pitching have Arod play on the opposing little league team in the Championship game and your son/daughter will have scouts all over him in no time.

4. Arod can be a politician. He said people don't like him because hes biracial. He has a good point. Derek Jeter is biracial and Yankee fans hate him.

5.Hes so soft he can replace your matress. Arod has no stones whatsoever.Just when you think he couldnt get any worse he makes Kenny Rogers look like Sandy Koufax. And Kenny Rogers is almost as old as Sandy Koufax.

I always find it interesting when a fan of any big market team uses the terms "don't overspend!" Who cares. Spend away, but spend wisely. I think both the yankees and sox fans on this site can see what trying to save a few bucks has done. The yankees didnt pony up to Pettitte and then they got a bunch of s***** replacements for a few less bucks. Funny thing is, the only 2 guys who really stepped to the rubber all season were the guy who was there from 2001 on and the kid who was brought through the farm system. The rest of the garbage sucked. Overall, you end up spending more if you try to find the deal of the hot stove and it doesnt work out. For the yankees, they should be trying to sign TWO of the top 3 on the market, Schmidt, Matsuzaka, and Zito. The sox need one of them. Overall, if the yankees make a rotation that has RJ as the 4 or 5 and has Matsuzaka, Zito, and Wang as the top 3, I think that no other team could hang with them. Their bullpen is pretty much set for next yr sans a lefty long man like Villone pre All Star edition. Their offense will still be superb, even if they let sheff go. They could deal ARod and get a serviceable player or even try to sign Aramis for 3b. Consider this, even if they go young and bring up Duncan for 3b, they will still have a top 7 in the lineup of Damon, Jeter, Abreu, Giambi, Matsui, Posada and Cano.

For the sox, they have a ton to do, which I highlighted in my sox to do list. The closer I wanted is now gone (Cordero re-upped with the brew crew). Wickman is gone too (re-upped with the Braves). Closer by committee is scary IMHO and having Hansen there would be even worse.

Melky would probably go in right. His arm is lightyears better than Matsui's.

Moving Abreu is plain dumb. The guy turned that offense from a pedestrian one into a great one. Also, he essentially was the reason why the yankees won their only game with 4 RBI. Otherwise the yankees are staring at a sweep. He should be kept as should the rest of the O. I was listening to Steve Phillips (I know why the hell would I do that), and he said that the yankees will likely try to exercise Sheff's option so they can control where he goes, and worst case he would stick around as their 1b for another yr. I dont think that is a bad idea, but I'd only do that if the yankees get anything greater than a bag of rocks for ARod. This is going to be a very interesting offseason for both the sox and the pinstripers.

yankees are high priced bums ... so let then bring in some more overpriced bums ... ya way to go cashman

while I do not disagree with you as far as the high priced bums is concerned, you need to look yourself in the mirror too.
