It's good to see Randy Johnson pitching like Randy Johnson. The control has been pretty good. And he's even brushed a few guys off the plate.

Your right he looks like a different pitcher today. Everything from stuff to attitude.

1 start by johnson doesn't make him the old randy johnson.

Who said it did? I said he's pitching like Randy Johnson today and he is.

No need to be scared just yet.

If Randy can keep this up today, it'll just be what the doctor ordered for this team. He'll gain some confidence and we can rest the bullpen.

Is Torre kidding me? Why is he taking him out? The pen is taxed and Randy is only at 91 pitches. Give him a chance to work out of it.

I don't even try to give a logical explanation as to how Torre manages the bullpen. He just has no idea.

Its amazing how bad he manages the pen sometimes. Then in the second half of the season Torre sits in his damn office and wonders why is relivers are burned out. Just ask Paul Quantrill.

I have been wondering about the quick hook, especially since Torre let him go out to start the 7th. I observed something as he left the mound after the 5th. I don't know if it is an RJ ritual. As he was walking off the mound, he was rotating his left shoulder. I f any of you have TIVO'd the game, check it out. Maybe he was a little stiff.

I saw it too, I was worried, then he threw a couple pitches at 94 and I was ok. I think Torre had him on a short leash because todays game is very positive for him after tons of negatives. Everyone harped on how Randy turned it around last week and I kinda took it with a grain of salt. Looks like they were right, as detroit is the best team in baseball and RJ dominated them.....

It could be just a habit he has got. I am not that familiar with his routines. Whenever I see a pitcher flexing the pitching arm, I always wonder if something is bothering him, especially the older guys or guys with arm troubles. D-Lowe on the other hand was always flexing everything, his arm his back. After a while, I came to realize that he was just a quirky guy.

Also, can somebody explain to me what Joe's obsession with Terrence Long is? Why the f*** was he the DH today? I can only recall one day since we brought him up that he hasnt been in the starting lineup.

who else would we have out there? TLong gives Joe a veteran who wont make the stupid rookie mistakes. BUT, we should have Durazo up here or Pena to see what they can do....

I think the better question is if your going to have Long in the line up why at DH? Play him in RF. I'm sure he has better range then Sheffield (and as I type this I remember Sheff's nice catch today).

Exactly. I don't mind having Long in the lineup so much, but i'd rather him be in either right or left field and let Sheff or Melky DH. I mean, Sheff has been DHing for a while and needed to get back to the outfield, but Melky could have DH'd just for today. Or even Long could have not started all together and Phillips could have DH'd or played first (having Giambi DH).

IDK, just seems like now that Sturtze is gone Joe has found his new lover.

want some good news??

i was at the sox yanks game last week when randy got shelled early

i also saw him turn it on at the end of the nite and based on that i threw 500 on him yesterday as a small underdog to bonderman..

he didnt let me down

as much as i hate the yankees i love making money handicapping baseball

rj made me a grand last week as a dog against the likes of matt clement and jeremy bonderman??

i'll bet him all day every day as an underdog against anyone

he may not be able to K 15 a night anymore but hes a solid pitcher nonetheless

why did torre pull him after 6??

he was fine

why did garner pull oswalt after 6 too??

he needed that win big time yesterday and his fukin bullpen sold him down the river

again

oswald had them shut out 1-0 and they pinch hit for him in the 7th??

predictably pujols hits a 3r jack as the bullpen walked 2 guys in front of him

fukin ragtime effort in a big game for phil garner

Monroe High School lefthander Danny Almonte has been invited by the Yankees to attend a pre-draft workout at the Stadium on Thursday morning. But according to a source, Almonte, who's pitching today for Monroe, may not be able to attend if his team is still alive in the PSAL playoffs due to league rules against working out for MLB teams in season.

Yankees scout Jeff Wetherby's presence around the Phillies over the weekend prompted speculation he was looking at outfielders Pat Burrell and Bobby Abreu. However, the Phillies are looking for starting pitching and that's the Yankees' No. 1 priority. The price on Burrell and Abreu could come down if the Phillies simply want to dump salary. Abreu, who makes $13 million this year, has $17.75 million left on a contract that ends after next season. Burrell, who makes $9.5 million this year, has $27 million remain on a pact that runs out after the 2008 season.
