At this point, I say Randy Johnson loses his place in the rotation when Pavano comes back.

I know, it's not going to happen.

Pavano isnt coming back anytime soon. His vaginitis flared up again today...

What happened? I heard them talking about an injured pitcher, but I thought they were talking about Chacon.

He had some tricep tenderness and had to be pulled after one inning...

Wang had another strong start tonight.

8.0 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 3 K

He induced 3 DPs tonight, improved his record to 4 - 1, and lowered the ERA under 4.

Yes, another good performance by Wang. Nice to have the starter go 8 innings and then hand it off to Mo who of coarse worked a fabulous 9th inning.

Chacon is hurt, too?

And now ANOTHER setback with Pavano?

I'm about to start pulling my hair out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (however, it might just fall out on its own with all this recent stress i'm under)

Chacon was hit in the shin in his last start. He is bruised and in pain...

Hey Yankee fans, have you noticed that Johnny Demon is in a bit of a slump. His average is down to .282. I wonder if his shoulders are acting up.

texas mustve been tired after the night befores track meet

Wang dominated them. He pitched through 3 pathetic errors in the infield and yet only allowed 3 runs, 2 earned. If he could dominate that lineup one game after they torched us for 13 runs, then he can dominate anyone. Once he got his location back, he has been nasty. 96mph sinker last night, that is f***ing dangerous....

Eventually, aren't they going to have to remove the bone chips from Damon's foot?

nah, they can scar down over time. If they have to it will be in the offseason....

Wang has been pretty lucky with some timely DPs in those last two starts. Yeah, I know sinkerballers get a lot of GBs. But, while they can control what types of batted balls (LD, GB, FB ) hitters get, they can't control where it is hit. If he was dominating, his K/9 would be a lot higher than 3.32.

You do not need to K people to be dominating. His pitch count has been great all yr and he has been dominating in his sense. He gets 3+GB per every FB...

GB or FB, it is still a ball in play. And, for a GIDP, the ball needs to be hit relatively close to the fielder. It takes some good fortune to get 4 of those like he did against Oakland. Yeah, he's doing his job by inducing GBs, but the luck comes in when they all go right to a fielder with runners on and less than two outs. All of the dominant seasons from sinkerball pitchers in the past decade (Kevin Brown with the Pads/Dodgers, Halladay, Brandon Webb) featured K rates above 6. Derek Lowe's good 2002 featured a K rate of 5.2, but a BB rate of only 1.9. Those last two games for Wang are an example of best case scenario on balls in play. The other shoe will drop.

So wait? To be dominating you have to strike people out? Thats dumb. You're pretty much saying Wang has only been good because he's been "lucky" with getting the DP's. Thats like saying Roger Clemens only got a lot of strikeouts because he throws hard, or Rickey Henderson only stole a lot of bases because he's fast. Why not just give the guy some credit, he's been good.

Also, according to the Post we have DFA'd Felix Escalona and are very close to signing Terrance Long, who has just recently been released by the Reds.

I dont understand why Escalona had to be DFA'd for this one, there is still a spot open on the 40 Man roster. This move wasnt necessary. Whatever though.

I give him credit. He does a good job inducing GBs, but once it leaves the bat, his job is done. He cannot control where it is hit to.

7 GIDPs in 2 games = astronomical rate = good fortune (luck)

No, Roger Clemens strikes a lot of peole out because his stuff can miss bats. That is a skill. Wang throws just as hard, but he can't miss bats, so he doesn't have that skill. His skill is making the hitter put the ball on the ground, but that doesn't guarantee an out like a K does.

On a completely irrelevant and immature note, I have been giggling like a schoolgirl everytime I see the words "Wang" and "DP" in the same sentence.

Right, but regardless of how "lucky" or fortunate he has been, he's still been dominating. The definition of dominating doesnt include the words strikeout, K/9 Rate, etc. He's been dominant, for whatever reason (or maybe excuse?) you want to provide, its still been so. He's been amazing his last two starts.

Consider it whatever you want. I happen to agree with conventional wisdom where Ks, in-field FB, and low hit totals measure a pitcher's dominance. In my book, he hasn't dominated anyone, but he's been very effective recently. Tomato, tomahto.

the words dominate and jamie moyer are never used in the same sentence because he doesnt dominate

he pitches well when hes in a jam

rj used to dominate

martinez used to dominate etc....

wang has pitched well this year, dominating maybe a stretch but pitching well he has done
