Just for fun, my opinion of the sox vs. yankees position wise.

Varitek > Posada

Giambi > Youk

Cano = Loretta

Arod > Lowell

Jeter > Gonzalez/Cora

Manny > Matsui

Damon > Crisp

Sheffield > Nixon

Ortiz > Bernie??

1st--Snow > Andy Phillips

INF--Cora > Escalona

OF--Crosby > redsox 4th OF (we should end up with some one pretty good in a Tony G trade)

UTIL--Cairo = Harris

C--Stinnett > Flaherty

Schilling = R Johnson

Becket > Mussina

Wells > Wang

Wakefield > Chacon

Clement = Pavano

Rivera > Foulke

Farnsworth = Timlin

Arroyo > Sturtze

Tavarez > Dotel

Myers = Dinardo

Seanez > Villone/Proctor

Sox--11

I don't like this trade. It's like Rent was traded for nothing and we got a s***** hitter in Gonzo and a guy thats going to be loved for his name in Crisp.

I was wondering if anyone thought that if marte is gone, will we transition youk back to third?

Definately a possibility down the road. This year I'd think he stays at first unless Lowell is really bad and Snow is looking good.

yea i was thinking that and it made me feel better about this trade, if we have a proven 3rd base prospect, why not?

Actually, it's like we trade Renteria for Crisp which is awesome. Gonzo had a bad year last year but has 23 homers the year before in a pitcher's park. And Crisp is going to be loved for his play, not his name. Although I still love his name.

Posted
i dont hate the deal, but im not really excited about it either. Crisp is a good player who should be a good fit with the red sox but im not sure how he'll do leading off. I guess If you look at it as Renteria and Harvey Garcia for Crisp, it looks like a very good deal for the Sox.

A lot will depend on how Lowell returns and how Youk plays in general at 1b. In the end I feel we're going to want to upgrade the power at 1b.

Dimitri Young, Mike Sweeney, Sean Casey and Aubrey Huff will probably be available at the trade deadline. Also Todd Helton could also be traded

Posted
I really don't want Helton. For a guy who struggles to hit 30 homers in Coors, his contract is like 16 million a year through 2011 and he's 32 years old. He goes against what we're trying to do right now.
Posted
they could probably package Youk and Arroyo for a firstbase guy like young, sweeney or huff
I really like Sweeney, but he has a bad back. It would probably smarter if they went for Huff.

I have some problems with this. First off where is papelbon? He is going to start next year the FO has been fairly straight foward with that. Next Wells wont be here next year, he is gone. And I think in the Long run getting Crisp is better than signing Damon, if you look at the numbers they are very similar, plus Crisp is faster and has a better arm

Posted
wells isnt gone and i dont know were to put papelbon yet. Since the sox havn't and probably wont be trading arroyo, clement or wells by the start of spring training, papelbon really has no spot yet, unless they decide to go with no lefty in the bullpen.

Wallace and other members of the coaching staff have indicated that they would prefer to have Papelbon start the season in the Pen. Wells moving is not a slam dunk either.

In a perfect world, Id love it for the Sox to go after Derek Lee when he becomes a free agent.

Only trade possibility for Cora was for Kaz Matsui, which does us little good knowing that we have Loretta at 2nd base.

Um...Kaz Matsui is a natural Shortstop, having Loretta means nothing.

Youk

Lorretta = Cano

Lowell

Gonzalez

Manny > Matsui

Crisp

Nixon

Ortiz > Bernie

Snow > Andy Phillips

Cora > Escalona (I doubt Escalona makes it because I think we still ad someone else, but as of now he fills the role)

Harris

Flaherty = Stinnett (I like Flaherty's glove and Stinnett's bat, equal)

Schilling

Becket > Mussina

Wells > Wang (Assuming Wels is there, I think he still gets traded though)

Wakefield = Chacon (Both were up and down last year, ill give it an equal for now)

Clement = Pavano

Foulke

Timlin > Farnsworth

Arroyo > Sturtze/Small

Tavarez

DiNardo

Seanez > Villone

Papelbon > Wright

Obviously moves need to be made, pitchers need to be traded as both teams have a surplus, and the rosters are not final, but this is how I view it, assuming the Crisp and Gonzalez deals are done.

Red Sox: 10

Yankees: 10

Tavarez is better than Dotel. Tavarez has been nothing but reliable (albiet a bit fiesty at times) for the Cardinals, Dotel has been shipped around for good reason. The only image I have burned in my head is back to back days where the Sox were down 1 and came back to win against him in the 9th.

Dotel is coming off surgery and is a huge question mark. Optimistically, he will be ready by June.

idk man, i'll take Dotel over Tavarez any day. Granted, Dotel wasnt much to write home about in Oakland, but he was secodn to none (imo) when he was setting up Wagner. Ever since moving into the closer role for Houston, and then Oakland he has slowed down. Moving back into a setup role for Mo and the Yankees should be good for him.

I agree, Dotel was one of the most dominate set up men in the game for Billy Wagner in Houston. They moved him to closer and like alot of set up man gone closers they struggled. Now hes out of being a closer. There is huge upside for Dotel. As for him being ready Dotel said he would be ready in April. I think thats optomistic, I expect him back sometime in late May to June.

tavarez is more consistent. I guess they're atleast even. But with dotel not coming back untill july, tavarez is more important. No one knows if he'll even be healthy enough to pitch then.

last 3 years they have both been even

tavarez 3 year total--3.20 era

dotel 3 year total--3.12 era

Also, how are Varitek and Posada even?? I know posada is a good catcher, but no where near as valuable than Varitek. Varitek has a .283 avg, .369 obp and .495 slug% over the last 3 years. Posada has a .271 avg, .385 obp and a .475 slug%. His obp may be better, but defensively Varitek is much better. He is one of the smartest guys in baseball who is great at managing games for his pitchers.

Varitek being much better defensively then Posada is not accurate. Posada had a better CS%, Posada had 1 less error and 1 more passed ball then Varitek. Posada also had a better FBCT then Varitek last season. So the idea that Varitek is MUCH better defensivly then Posada is false
