The way it looks, I don't think the FO has a plan. They were stunned by Theo. Beckett fell into their lap with the Florida fire sale and then they got stuck with Lowell. Then they deal for another third basemen in Marte, creating a hole at short. They somehow lost out on a trade for Overbay to play first base. Larry likes Beattie, but suddenly the Duo get the GM job. They spent two months trying to deal Manny, unsuccessfully. They also couldn't deal Wells. They deal for Loretta, knowing Pedroia is close and then offer arbritation to Graff, which he accepts, leaving them with 3 second basemen. And now Damon leaves for NY while the FO keeps hoping Theo comes back soon.

Now the Sox have no lead off hitter and an infield of Youk, Loretta, Cora and Lowell. I doubt there's a plan. It looks like they're winging it and it's not going well. Just wait until Manny is a no-show in the spring.

Loretta has had some success at leadoff before, so like Gordon Edes said "look for Loretta to take over that duty". Graffanino also did a commendable job hitting leadoff when Johnny had to miss some game from the nagging shoulder injury he had throughout the season.

Get ready to say goodbye to Bronson, that Seattle deal should get going

The sox now will agressively pursue getting either Jeremy Reed or Coco Crisp. I would prefer Reed as he is a centerfielder while Crisp is really a corner outfielder. Arroyo and a lesser prospect(Alvarez) for Reed

I like Jeremy Reed alot, he's got a whole bunch of talent and is a great defensive CF, as for SS I would love to somehow get Tejeda, maybe Manny, Clement, and a medicore pitching prospect would clinch it, i dunno that's prolly a long shot. I wouldn't mind seeing either Tony G/Alex G at short with a platoon of Youk/J.T. Snow or Adrian Gonzalez at first.

The Orioles would want the prospect to beLester or Papelbon, which the Sox have said no to. Sorry O's...

Maybe the Twins trade talks can heated up again... the twins have had youk on their radar for awhile, and id greatly welcome the gold glove torri hunter calling fenway his home. But a longshot as it stands right now

With all the Damon talk he really wasnt half of who is now til he came to Boston. I think Reed is a guy who can become a pretty damn good CF for us.
Posted
Yeah, the reason I like Reed so much is because he had a .992 FP with just 3 errors in one of the most spacious baseball parks. Plus he did pretty good hitting in his first full major league season, batting .254 with a .322 OBP, and hitting 33 doubles. The guy is a doubles hitter(great in Fenway off the Monster) and a great defensive CF, that's loaded with talent. Plus we'll have him for 4 or 5 years at 335K unless he's available for Arb.

Whats the fascination with Reed? First of all, you guys keep talking about him like you already have him. Secondly, the guy is unproven.

I read reports that the deal was pretty much in place if they lost out on Damon...

...which they did:thumbsup:

Because the need pitching and we have an excess of it, plus the Ms think he had a "disappointing" rookie season.

a minor league arm, or are the M's asking for at the very least, DiNardo?

How do you think Adam Stern fits into this mix?

With Gabe Kapler not due back at the earliest the all star break, its looking likely Stern that Stern get the 4th outfielder spot the start of the season. Im pretty sure he has to anyway, under the Rule 5 draft guidelines. Id be fine with that, his time up here had shown some great defensive plays, 3 of which were shown on espn.

Bronson Arroyo is whom the Mariners have the most interest in for a trade

I know the Ms are very interested in Arroyo, but I'd offer them Clement and vouch to pay some of his salary, maybe 1-2 million a year for the two years. I think Arroyo is a very promising 5 starter as well.

I don't know what this is except a very messy comparison between the Sox/Yanks lineup, but another reason I just thought of to trade Clement instead of Arroyo would be to boost Arroyo's trade value. If we can rid ourselves of Clement's salary and Arroyo is doing great and Lester is ready to come up, we can get alot more than what we would get now for Arroyo.

they need a leadoff hitter (right now there best leadoff possibility is Youk) and a big name SS to kinda counter the damon deal.

the sox should talk to Cinci about Felipe Lopez and maybe one of their OF. (Dunn, Pena, MAYBE griffey)

or maybe the tigers for one of their CF(Granderson, Monroe, Logan) and Carlos Guillen

both this teams would want pitching in return (Arroyo and maybe Anibal) and probaly a prospect.

Reed is already known as a tremendous big league glove. He has potential to become a good bat, I actually think we may be better off getting Reed depending on when Damon hits his decline.
