That's why I'd have him start in AA next yr, to master the change...

Can you imagine a rotation as young & as good as this?

1.Clement

2.Papelbon

3.Lester

4.Hansen

5.Sanchez?

No I can't because Hansen is a closer. He closed in college, and that's what he'll do in the bigs. There is no way that they will make him a starter ... EVER.

soxprospects.com says Hansen will throw on tuesday?? Is this thing updated or is that old news and he is still shut down for the rest of the season?? As far as the rotation and stuff...in a dream world everyone would work out and look like:

1.AJ Burnett

2.Matt Clement

3.Jon Papelbon

4.Jon Lester

5.Anibal Sanchez

SU:Cla Meredith

SU:Manny Delcarmen

SU:Abe Alvarez

CL:Craig Hansen

........but I highly doubt it. As of right now our top pitching prospect is Papelbon and he needs another pitch.

There's a thread for next years pitching ( actually more than one ) is this isn't it.

He was to throw long toss on either Friday or Saturday (which I think he did) and be reevaluated on Tuesday.

Thanks but this was really just a Hansen question about him being shut down "indefinitely". Had to voice an opinion about a previous post on a rotation including Hansen.....don't worry its a talk forum....most have more than one topic....it will be ok

I understand, but talking about next year's possible rotation has nothing to do with Hansen being shut down. If there was some new information regarding his status, then fine. But all you're doing is continuing the same discussions of what if and what was, that eventually lead to that same NY vs Boston and name calling. This will make great material to discuss during " hot Stove " time. This topic should have died long ago, since its old news.

I stand corrected, but his own brother did say that craig was a SP in highschool... Btw, 7 shut out innings in that start correct?

this is something i've been thinking about lately. I dont know how I feel so I figured I would ask your opinions on it. Do you guys consider Craig Hansen to be homegrown? I would say yes because he has never pitched in another organization. but I say no because I dont feel like there has really been that much development of Hansen in the Sox system. I see his stint in the minors as an opprotunity to get some innings in as opposed to development. When he was drafted he was expected to be in the Majors at some point this season anyway based on his performance at St. Johns. So tell me what you guys think.

I don't think I'd consider him homegrown simply because he was already grown when he arrived. I think most players out of college are already grown(especially pitchers).
Posted
I don't really agree with that. Just because the guy chooses to get an education, has talent, and moves through the system quickly does not mean he isn't a product of the Boston Red Sox. He played in the Gulf Coast League (right?) and jumped up quickly. Made Portland look simple and moves right into the Red Sox playoff run. Just because a player doesn't grow up (literally) in the Red Sox farm system since he was 17 or whatever...doesn't mean he wasn't home grown. Everyones growing process is different and his was quick. But he still went through our system meaning...he is a home grown Red Sox player. This is just my opinion.

Well it's simple why he isn't home grown, and you proved it. He ran through the system so quickly he didn't learn anything. We didn't improve him in any way. He's the same pitcher he was in college.

I don't think its about teaching them stuff. Being home grown means you go through the system. Certain players are more prepared then others. He was more prepared and advanced quickly. Like Middle school, High school, College...thats growing...Gulf Coast League, Portland, skipped Pawtucket....thats growing...you don't necessarily have to learn going through it....just get through it and get to the show for the one team you were a part of.

thats what I think, there was really no development in the Red Sox system for Hansen. But all the other points about him only being in the Sox system are 100% valid.

any player who comes up into the majors through your organizations farm system is considered home grown talent, end of story. this is a horrible topic to even talk about, its just what it is, he is homegrown because we drafted him, the fact that he is a freak of nature and could pitch really and didnt need much time to grow doesnt mean he isnt considered homegrown, but besides, as of right now, he is a career red sox player, and no one else can claim credit for him except the red sox, and who does he pitch for and who will he pitch for for at least the next four years? the red sox.

nobodys disputing any of that. and i wasnt trying to start a fight by creating the topic, I was just trying to gather the opinion of the Sox fans. Just because im a Yankee fan doesnt mean im always out to fight with you guys, it was a harmless conversation

I'm sure if the Yanks had drafted Hansen and used him, then y'all would be saying that he isn't homegrown and he is just another hired gun bought by the Yankees.
Posted
Uh, no. You are wrong. We won't ever have to worry about that though, because the Yanks will never know "homegrown" talent

Jus' playin with ya. :)

Where did this guy Jeter come from??

 lol
