I saw him pitch in Portland last Thursday and he is definately a stud. He really didn't look like he belonged at AA. I sure hope that he gets better soon. After seeing him in person, I have no doubt that he could help.

We might be ok without him and I would expect him to make the team in spring training. Deffinitly the 40 man roster and will probably end up in the bullpen from the start. If Foulke can't get it back we have our closer for the next many many years...I would just assume not take a chance to wreck his arm

Craig Hansen is currently being rested due to arm fatigue but Theo Epstein didn't rule out that the first-round pick would continue pitching this season.

The Red Sox will shut Hansen down for between five and 10 days and if his arm feels better they will proceed as originally planned.

You all need to learn about sensationalzing.

I believe myself and a good portion of this Forum is well aware of that aspect of informational flow. But this Forum, in my view is somewhat of an escape vehicle from the everyday mundain ******** of responsibilities and factual data. We come here to express our opinions, try to relay information, and just have fun. I doubt the majority of members here are naive enough to beleive everything they see or read in the media. Lighten up a little. :D

That really sucks I was hoping that we would see Hansen pitching outta the Sox pen. Big dissapointment. Hopefully we see him next year.

Hopefully? You absolutley will. This really isn't a big deal, you don't wanna throw a rookie into a pennant race anyways. There is a good chance you wouldn't have seen him in the majors anyways.

There will be more roster moves to come in the next few days. Lenny DiNardo will be activated before Friday's game and start against the Orioles. Hard-throwing right-hander Manny Delcarmen will be recalled for the third time this season within the next week. Highly-touted first-round draft pick Craig Hansen, currently going through a dead arm phase, also could be with the Red Sox before the season is over.

After six days off, Craig Hansen will throw long-toss today at Double-A. Barring a setback, Hansen could begin pitching again as soon as Tuesday. ''If he had been in a major league bullpen he probably wouldn't have been shut down,'' director of player development Ben Cherington said.

Hey, mr I'm-such-a-good-poster-so-only-I-can-critique-other-people's-posts, I don't know who you think you are, but you don't need to insult me for writing one word of exclamation after getting some disappointing news. If you don't like how people are regularly posting here then go and post somewhere else.

I believe I said "Arghhhhhhh" which you somehow took to mean "my life is over and I"m going to kill myself now", which clearly it didn't. It was an expression of frustration, nothing more.

Actually I wasn't indicating that you were one of the dumbasses, but you just leaped into that pile. Great job, moron. When you assume, you make an ass out of yourself, and you just did.

Yeah, the saying is "when you assume you make an ass out of you and ME", nice selective memory. I'm pretty sure you WERE indicating that I'm one of the dumbasses, as you quoted my post and then went off on an insane rant about exageration.

Sorry if you weren't, but you should definitely clarify about who the 'they' are when you start generalizing about groups of people.

It's squashed John.

Can someone clue me in on something? Hansen, is he eligable or ineligable for the playoffs? He's not in the 40 man roster, is he?

Posted

He is on the 40-man, and he would be eligible as a replacement for Mantei (on 60-day DL) if they wanted him.

EDIT: One of the reasons he slipped to us in the draft is the fact that Boras is his agent and he was perceived as a tough sign. One of Bora's demands was that he be placed on the 40-man roster immediately after signing.

Posted
Really? Huh. This whole 40 man roster thing is confusing when you can substitute players for guys on the DL. So, Boras demanded basically the same thing that most sox fans demanded too? That's good. Another question: do 40 men go to the playoffs with the sox or do they again cut down the roster at the end of the season? I don't seem to remember the sox having all of this depth the last few years, but maybe I just didn't consider John Burkett to be depth.

Playoff rosters are set at 25 for each series in the playoffs. The 25 comes from the eligibility list, which is: 1. All players on the active 25 roster as of 12:00 am Sept. 1, 2. All players on the DL as of 12:00 am Sept. 1.

The injury loophole works like this. All players on the 40-man that are on the 60-day DL as of the 9/1 cutoff can have their eligibility replaced by anyone in the organization. All replacements must be of the same position. Pitchers for pitchers, infielders for infielders, outfielders for outfielders.

EDIT: The playoff roster can be changed in between series if there are more than 25 eligible players.

Shut him down for the rest of the yr, let him start at AA next year as a SP ... His stuff is to good for 1-2 innings ....

I disagree.

The Yankees won 4 WS in 5 years because they had someone who could shut the door just about every time. He's a 2-pitch pitcher with excellent control and velocity, which is the prototype for a closer.

He hasn't mastered the change, so I wouldn't count it yet.

Even if he does pick up a 3rd plus pitch, the farm system has 3 possible front end starters (your username obviously) and the resources to add in the FA market.

Delcarmen, Meredith, and Martinez could all prove to be very effective relievers and setup men, but I think SU is their ceiling. I'm concerned about command with all three of these pitchers. Hansen's control, to this point, seems to be in another league. He'll work ahead in the count more often and will allow less free passes. That aspect added to his stuff screams closer to me.

That's why I'd have him start in AA next yr, to master the change...

Can you imagine a rotation as young & as good as this?

1.Clement

2.Papelbon

3.Lester

4.Hansen

5.Sanchez?

chances are that not all of them are starters and chances are that not all of them will be the studs we want them to become. if it does happen we would have had all the luck on our side.
