The Yankees are the Yankees. They won't make the Wild Card, because that's coming out of a different division. This year to make the playoffs if you are a team from the east, you must win the division. I think the Yanks and Red Sox both make runs for the division title down to the last week. I can't count the Yanks out. I wish there was an option that said, "Not completely out of it, but will just miss the playoffs." That's more what my vote would be under, but because of the choices above, I had to vote they're done good luck in 2006...but that's not how I really feel.

NO NO NO. I've said this all along with some other posters. The wildcard will come out of the central. Either the Guardians or the Twins. The White Sox are the best team in baseball and you see the Twins behind them by about 9 games. That means that the second place team in the central, has the identical record as the first place team in any other division! In the east you have each team beating the mother-loving s*** out of another and the records for each team aren't the best. Because of that, and because of each team getting beat up all the time (might I add that Toronto AND Baltimore have MUCH better teams than the previous years). The East is no longer just the Yanks/Sox. 2 more teams are in the mix now. If you are a team from the east and you want to make the playoffs, you will need to win the division.

You see, I cant see the Yankees not making it. Its just one of those things that myself, and apparently soxie have a hunch about. There is no way that a 200 million dollar team misses the playoffs. While I hope they dont, I still think they will just catch on fire.

I would much rather see a team like the Guardians make it, who had to work hard to become good.

But you cant really do anything other than hope they buy the wrong players at the deadline and hope they suck up the joint like they did in the beginning.

I like the Guardians as a club and had them pegged out of the Central, and agree it will be tough for a team in the East to win the Wild Card. But when it comes down to it, the two best teams in the American League (Boston, NY) will end up in the playoffs, again. I still think the Yankees will win the East.

Their next series against Cleveland is HUGE, as well as the series with Boston right after the break. Should be some fun baseball in the next 2 weeks.

Ok I know last year we choked, and I know we are old. But after all these years do you think that we will miss the playoffs completely. Now come on, I NEVER EVER count out any team that has proven that they can make a run. I haven't seen any team run away with the east, we play you guys 4 games after the break. In those 4 games any thing could happen, and I am just saying what if, lets say a miracle happened we sweep. Could it happen yes, will it maybe. Just don't count out the Yankees, because it could come back and bite you in the ass.

First, I don't think a judgement about the Sox or the Yanks can be made before the trade deadline. They both have holes to fill, and the team dynamic can change drastically with some new faces. Remember the Red Sox last August?

Second, the next month will be a big determinant on the Yankees chances. Just look at their schedule:

July 7-10, CLE (46-38)

July 14-17, @BOS (48-35)

July 18-20, @TEX (43-40)

July 21-24, @ANA (52-32)

July 26-28, MIN (46-36)

July 29-31, ANA (52-32)

Aug 2-4, @CLE (46-38)

Aug 5-7, @TOR (43-41)

Aug 8-10, CWS (57-26)

Aug 11-14, TEX (43-40)

If they can keep winning through that stretch, then we can't write them off.

take a look at toronto's schedule for july, jeez the schedule will be givin them wins alone

They still have 2 series against the Rangers, and 1 against the Angels. Plus they start August with the White Sox and Yankees. There's some meat to their schedule.

thats right soxie it was a one-two punch by dale svelum's bad decisions and embree giving off two 3 run homeruns--I was at the Sox game, first one they came back home after the yankee series. Once the announcer said Dale Svelum, all of Fenway Park had erupted in boos

I've been saying that the Yankees would eventually turn it around all season long (go back and check my posts if you don't believe me), but this stretch of games in July/August that you listed (which I assume is right) is capable of showing the world exactly what the Yankees are made of. If they can win 60% of their games against these clubs, they're a real contender. If they can't, they don't have a chance. There isn't an easy victory in that entire schedule. Cleveland, Minnesota, Texas, Toronto, Chicago, and Anaheim are all teams capable of giving good teams fits. Hell, all of these teams (except probably Toronto) are still contenders.

Should be interesting-- I still think the Yankees will be right in the thick of it come September, but on August 15th we'll know exactly how good that team is.

Personally, I almost don't want the Yankees to be out of it. In the end I want the Sox to win the division and the Yankees to be on the golf course earlier than they've been in 10 yrs. But it would really be an event if one team or the other had a one or two game lead going into those last three games at Fenway to end the season. Then again it's been pretty entertaining watching Randy Johnson lose his velocity and turning into a poor man's Jamie Moyer and seeing the rest of the team imploding around him.

forget about august look at july. the yankees wont get out of july above .500. the angels OWN the yankees. if the redsox can do some damage to them while they are in boston, texas took 2 out of 3 IN NY and then they have to face MR. SANTANA and the twins...July will be really tough for those bitches in new york.

If we can keep in front of the Yankees untill the ned of the season we will win the division, an overwhelming ammount of our final 30 to 40 games are at home at the end of the season.

Your teams still done. I don't care if you get to within 1/2 a game... everything will work out in the end like it should. You guys will fall apart.

Blind faith is fun. Fact remains, you don't know crap about what's going to happen, like it or not.

Hmm.... let me look back at my statement. Now I'm going to view the upcoming schedule you have that AgentAnni kindly posted, I'm going to take a look at your OF/your starting pitchers ERAs and let me think.....

Yep, I stand by that statement along with the 13 other voters who voted in this poll that you are done. Just twelve games ago, Tampa Bay finished you off AGAIN, do you really think things have changed? When you went on your run earlier in the year, did you actually think things changed then, also? You're done, just look forward to the Jets football season and sit quietly and watch the Yankees stumble begin again soon.

The Yankees just don't live after a choke.
