  1. The Laroche for Kotchman trade really pissed me off.
  2. Okay, mister double standard. This gets credit? Joe got rushed and didnt look like he knew at all what to do in that situation nor really wanted to hang in bang.... VS A guy who I cant get you to give credit to, a dude who actually wanted to fight. You see that slip? Thats boxing training. Crisps teammates loved him at every stop, and he was so fan-friendly. And he was an underrated gamer.
  3. A lot of that is philosophical changes, coaching, and trends.
  4. Im not convinced that we have the offense to spare and a giant need for pitching. Seems to me like its the offense that has been struggling more as of late.
  5. Name me a manager who isnt moving guys around and youll be showing me a dinosaur who hasnt kept up with the times.
  6. This is seen through a slant. 25% chance of Duran getting traded (per your article) is getting ignored. Comments from front office, they dont feel the need to move an OF'er getting overlooked. 25% is not the foregone conclusion that you present. Especially if we are buying. Trade our fire for what 6 starts? Thats a sell move. This isnt an obvious great deal for both sides. Duran has an SOPS+ of 165 for July. Hes on fire right now. He was on fire throughout the second half of last year.
  7. Any time you are talking about trading the face and fire of the franchise, the return package is secondary. You are failing pretty badly to make a conversation about Bubic. Duran is NOT the obvious odd man out. You accepting that as fact overshadows everything you are trying to say about (dont even care about his name)
  8. Thats not the point. The point, for me, dont want to speak for Max is this old school incorrect belief that platoons are not good. If MLB rosters were 30 deep, most MLB players would platoon. Are platoons are some of our stronger spots. You dont see a platoon and circle it as a weak spot.
  9. Their assessment of Schwarber bothers me more than their assessment of Masa
  10. Do these guys know that we dont *HAVE* to wait until the deadline. Like Ive said before, my concern is that our playoff chances will fade between when I first declared this (immediately after Devers trade) and the deadline. I was concerned that we would be about .500 at the deadline and make our moves then and it would be almost futile because of so many teams to pass. For a few reasons, Yankees and Seattle stinking, an easy part of the schedule, us playing great for a spell. It looked like my concerns were overblown and we could easily hold it down until reinforcements. But now Im getting itchy again. Worrying that our playoff chances are going to get murky again. Its prob the schedule more than anything. Funny how much better we look vs Nats/Col then vs ChCubs/Phills/LAD (upcoming)
  11. My issue is with the notion that we should see the age of 28 as a reason to move him. Are we punting on the next 3 years? Is this the next guy up is always going to be better hype fallacy. Moving on from Duran because of where he is in his development cycle (current prime) is like saying you dont expect this team to compete until hes past prime , so like wait another 3-4 years. And then there will prob be guys like Cedanne and Wilyer and Crochet that we'd have to move because uh-oh turned 28. Prime is usually 26-31. You should want 28 year olds unles you feel like we are years out. More than anything, its a reach to declare him the odd man out because its hard right now because none of them look like the odd man out. My vote = hoard.
  12. Yeah, Im with you. Id love to see Duran or Anthony at 1b and trade someone not currently on MLB roster to fortify pitching, but I'm coming to terms that its prob not going to happen.
  13. Raise your hand if you forgot Santana was a catcher at one point. Feels like ages ago.
  14. On the year Bednar has like a flat 2 ERA and like a 12.5 K/9, 13 saves so insurance if Chapman gets hurt. Great set up man. Prob close for us next year (his arb3 year) Keller is like a 3.7-3.8 ERA pitcher, so like a good #3 thereabouts. Will slot in nicely in the middle of our rotation next 3 years. I dont think hes overpaid at all, like 18m/cash per year but with like 15.5 lux tax hit. Getting a 29 yr old solid #3 in free agency, you are looking at like 21m for 4-5 years. He provides good insurance if Gio or Bello struggle and can join our playoff rotation. ALso will help us get there (playoffs).
  15. Notin can I get a BTV check on Campbell for Keller and Bednar? Also would you do this? Note: KC has a sub .700 OPS since going to AAA and Grissom has been much better as of late.
  16. I do this every year in the show (video game). Trade the dudes who are out of options and you dont have room for on your 26 and trade guys who are going to get rule 5 plucked who you dont have room for on your 40 man
  17. Theres middle ground between wanting to trade from the farm instead of Duran /Abreu (who both have multiple years control beyond this one) and never calling up from the farm again.
  18. Great news - deal just became Campbell for Kelly AND Bednar. BTW Grissom is outplaying Campbell in AAA.
  19. Ive got Vida Blue, Bob Feller, and an auto-generated dude I drafted in like 2028 (its like 2032) and Rollie Fingers as my closer and none of them can win any postseason hardware! (Vida blue does have a reg season MVP , but that should have went to Elly who went 40HR/70SB that year, granted Vida did have 27 wins).
  20. Sure, and this is my point. Its hard for a pitcher to put up a body of work that looks as sexy as a red-hot position player over an 11-20 game sample (depending on postseason games played). I assume if you heard that they were doing one pitcher-only postseason trophy, it wouldnt ruin your day. We have an MVP for ALCS, NLCS, WS, AL Playoffs, NL Playoffs and maybe others too - as you just showed, when its a small sample size, its hard for a pitcher to outshine a red hot bat. So why not add a trophy for pitchers only for the playoffs. Im sick of Vida Blue not getting any playoff hardware in my Show Franchise. Every year its 25 IP, a WS ring, an ERA under 2, 3-5 wins and he cant get anything (I turned on legends this time).
  21. If 15 IP is 3 wins out of 11 games or 5-6 includes 2-3 big time clutch closeouts, why not? And it wont be like that every year. Thing about 11 postseason games vs more, it also makes the resumes on the positional player side less eye-popping as well.
  22. This is why all of you armchair GMs should be playing the show. Not only can you get Skenes but you can get him for a poo--poo platter of replaceable talent. And its so fun. Just dont let it convince you that its that easy to quantity dump for quality in real life just cuz you can do it in the show. Or youll be setting yourself up for disappointment.
  23. To me the age/contracts of your big club matter when assessing farm strength. If we had a struggling team filled with 34 yr old dudes struggling to hold on and on short deals, we'd need a very strong farm and absolutely should be selling off. But Duran/Abreu/Mayer/Anthony/Cedanne/Nav all have control beyond this year. And between Bregman, Romy, Toro, Casas, Yoshida, and even Grissom (who is looking good in Worcester btw) - some of them are going to occupy positional player slots and fill those spots well. So on the positional player side, we dont need as much from the next group up. Not saying we should gut it, but I move for Campbell for Keller if it gets it done.
