  1. Hurry back Kutter Crawford* *2023 Crawford much preferred, but even 2024 Crawford would probably be an upgrade over whoever is the current # 5 starter.
  2. At the guy who has been telling people not to come at you so hot
  3. "do you not know what happens when you say someone's name around here?" -Kevin Owens
  4. And miss an opportunity to bear witness to the incredibly shrinking man? Also, I had Andrew Vaughn on my MLB the show 23 franchise and he was a very solid platoon guy
  5. My first thought was that it was a step back, as in, I thought we were largely past the 2000s era when umpires were trying to become part of the experience, had massive egos, and felt entitled to personal branding (Joe West country music career comes to mind). I really dont want to return to umps thinking they are main characters in the movie, mostly because its accompanied by so much whining (on their part)
  6. oh crap, didnt realize i responded to something that due to the direction of this thread, feels irrelevant and ancient history but then again, maybe not such a bad thing as I was tiring of reading about flding % vs range
  7. I only disagree thats the "only question" - heres another: what do we do with yoshida when/if he heals
  8. Im convinced that most managers are hired/fired or assessed on things beyond their control. I dont think they move the needle very much, and if they make an obvious mistake - sure - but it often gets magnified. I think baseball managers get too much credit for team success and too much blame for lack thereof. I lean towards Coras future not being within his control.
  9. Now if you want to trade Cedanne for a 1b, fine. As long as you are opening a spot for Anthony or Mayer. Thats priority here.
  10. Bregman to first, Campbell to third, Mayer to second Mayer to first Anthony to first Campbell to first, Mayer to second Campbell to first, Cedanne to 2b, Duran to CF, Roman to LF Dont even care if people are moving around, or if defensive alignment is different based on lefty/righty I dont think we should go get a mediocre "first baseman" (I dont even think a first baseman is even a thing in 2025). We have so much talent that is ready in Mayer and Anthony. We arent better with some Dom Smith in the role or Grissom or some band-aid. You arent going to ruin Roman or Mayer by playing them at 1b for one year. Ideal defensive alignment is a tertiary priority in 2025. This is a perfect opportunity to get RA or MM at-bats and looking at players through the framework of a position is dated. People move around a ton these days. And this is first base, we're talking about.
  11. Fair enough. I do believe if Devers healed quickly and completely, they may have entertained playing Bregman at 2b, but they never had to. I find this more believable than they were flat lying, but Im not 100% either way
  12. Im with Moon, this has to end with Roman Anthony in the big club. I dont care how you do it, or how much you have to move guys around. Or just slap a 1b glove on Roman, dont care. Get his bat up here, figure it out. Dont care if the defensive alignment shifts every night either. Thats just baseball in 2025. Some nights put Bregman at first, some nights Romy, some nights Anthony, some nights Campbell. Whatever. Doesnt have to be done this way, but it wouldnt be crazy for 2025. Keeping guys sharp at multiple positions is a good thing.
  13. Anthony throws right, though. Not that I care, Im with you.
  14. Like becoming a DH even counts as "learning a new position" - what self-centered spin
  15. Because Devers shoulder hadnt improved enough to warrant putting him in the field.
  16. Even some of the most first-basemany first-baseman that I can think of didnt exclusively play 1b. Big Sexsie - in 99 and in 2000 split his time between 1b and the of Great examples. Props to Belhorn on the Miggy pull. Regarding Notins comment on 2024 Padres. I love it. I would add: "welcome to the present"
  17. Red and Devers sounds like a basketball players/fans who refused to embrace the rising importance of the three point shot. Things change, and things evolve. There are very few "real first baseman" left, almost all of them are dudes who were moved from a different position. Its not just 1B either. Bregman came up a shortstop. But he bulked up and had to be moved to third where he became really good. The best defensive CF in baseball was a catcher 2 years ago. Tatis was a SS. It goes back even to the year 2000 , anyone remember when Alex Gordon was a 3B , got moved to RF and became freaking excellent? Long gone are the days where guys played one position their whole career. Adapt or get left behind. The seventies arent coming back. Foot stomping and whining for a "first baseman" is not only a bad look, but its also delusional. Any 1B we could reasonably acquire is a guy who has been moved from a previous position. Thats what 1b has become, your bat is too good, but I already have a DH and you arent exactly getting it done at position x. Refusing to adapt makes one go extinct. Everybody I know who is over 65 and still working has had to adapt. The only thing that wont change is the fact that change exists.
  18. Which is why he combined March and April, as everyone does. 6 month (regular) season April, May, June, July, Aug, Sept. Any March games are considered April and any October (reg season) games count as Sept.
  19. Even then, I might slide Bregman over before putting Wong there
  20. Assumed he meant 1b instead of DH
  21. people complain they cant hear me well when im on speaker
  22. Thats fair, I dont remember my reaction to the extension. I think I remember being a little puzzled. My only point is all salaries are rising. Understood defense first position players may not be at the same pace as pitchers, but I think that inflation is undeniable and needs to be considered and may be one of the reasons they extended him.
