  1. I disagree. I think hes going to stay a red sox, but I think he forces them to rip up the contract after he wins a disputed World Series MVP We'll all here be on the same page here: "They very rarely give these awards to a pitcher, and I think Bregman deserved it, and I have no issue with him getting it....He was awesome. PAY THAT MAN. But I would have given it to Crochet, personally. He started 3 games and closed another!"
  2. Remember yesterday when you were jokingly accused of covering your bases, and you were like maybe, but not intentionally - Im just trying to see things from all sides In that vein: I will continue to alternate between trade Duran, trade Abreu, trade neither BTW Grissom is absolutely raking in AAA right now, and he and KC are starting to look a lot alike. Im wondering if KC for Joe Ryan is the move.
  3. Peroni? I dont know if i could even name a different Italian beer.
  4. No because we have Crochet. If we didnt have Crochet, yes.
  5. Prob have to do Abreu and mid level prospects for Joe Ryan. I dont love it though. I dont think Abreu hit his ceiling. I think he has a 30 HR / GG year in him.
  6. Maybe the sox knew that wed be better this year than last and that if he blew his arm out last, making this the year - maybe that was the plan all along. Of course, I dont think Breslow has a time machine or crystal ball, so Im joking. I guess its a bit harder to call the contract dumb right now because Im glad hes here right now. But still, generally, speaking , Id love for them to stop with these type of deals. Use to be if a guy kills it in yr 1 of a 3-4 yr deal, woohoo, now you guy that for way cheaper than hed be if he were to be a FA after the bust out. Now its just a series of 1 yr deals. Or too many series of 1 yr deals, obvs not everyone is on a 1 yr deal
  7. Thank you! Can we stop with these 0 upside contracts? Best case scenario, he opts out!! Yippeee!! I get the Bregman one. Get him in the door. Also it was late free agency so really wanted him to sign the dotted line. But too many of these! Remember the Lackey contract, 5 yrs, if you get TJ at any point, we get a year added at minimum. Not these days , 3 yr contracts with an opt out after each one
  8. I dont think people are score-keeping here that badly (I personally cannot stand that stuff, people running around pounding their chests saying they were right...Or people using other posters previous posts (I mean going way back in time) against them to make a point) I try my best not to do it
  9. If we're in the world series, and Im Cora, Im literally blasting AC/DC while I slap Duran repeatedly in the fact while I scream "get angry"
  10. Duran is our energy leader, our clubhouse leader, our weight room leader, our intimidator, our distractor, our get in your head guy, our sh*t talker, our only guy who does (and should) scare the opposing team. He gives fight me eyes. He shouts expletives. Hes ready to throw down. Who one this team, if not Duran, would ever even dream of charging the mound. This stuff matters , and it matters even more in the playoffs. Without him, we are a team of sawfties. We dont have a Mike Napoli walking down the street with a cigarette in his mouth. Put Duran at 1b before you go trade for one. Hes a mixed bag in the outfield anyways. And we need his energy, his lift, his toughness. This dude once put a gun to his own head, he'll sure as s*** put one to yours. Hes loco. Hes scary. He gets in opponents heads (whether that be acting like a punk or on the basepaths). There is an element of warfare to this. You want those dudes on your side. You dont give away our only position player who will fight because you have a good fourth OF who could step in. Too much overthinking, not enough fight. Papelbons intimidation factor helped us , that stuff is important. We just traded Devers because it didnt really feel like he had his teammates back. Trading Duran completely undoes the benefit from that. If Im Roman Anthony, Im less scared they are going to throw at my head if Duran is on second. Cuz hell dropkick a fool.
  11. Hard disagree on Duran. But you are including Campbell. You are including Yoshida. You are for some reason assuming Romy wont play the infield when he mostly plays the infield. Lets not make 2025 worse for potential future problems. Duran is our leader, our energy, our enforcer, our fight, our leadoff hitter. Abreu is a GG who hits well against righties, our #5 hitter most nights. These are important positions, and I think the positions they currently occupy are more valuable than a pitcher. For Duran, any pitcher. For Abreu, I could maybe trade him for a very good starter, but Id rather not. Also depth. You need 3 starters for the playoffs.
  12. If the Red Sox trade Duran, we're too chill. And if Im an opposing team, there is nothing stopping me from pitching inside. From spiking you dudes on a slide. Duran is the enforcer. Hes scary. We need his scary. In the playoffs, this stuff matters. We need Duran for his fight.
  13. Maybe as a fall back. Id love Polar Bear more.
  14. I want Duran staring down opposing pitchers with crazy eyes. Getting the crowd into games. Reeking havoc on the basepaths. Talking sh*t through the media. Harassing opposing fans. Flipping off opposing managers. Just being a pest. Psyching our guys up. Pushing our guys to work out more. We need Duran if we are going to go anywhere this year. More than we need a #2 IMO.
  15. There isnt a pitcher on the planet I trade Duran for.
  16. Duran is the leader on this team. Hes not worth ANY pitcher. Hes our energy, our leader in the weight room, our leader of sh*t-talking. The playoffs have a lot of energy, intimidation, psychology. Duran is the right type of crazy (these days). You cant give that up. Abreu - I like him too much but can be talking into flipping for a pitcher, but I like him too much. I dont think the need for a starter is as dire as most. And Im focused on 2025. I think we shouldnt even be thinking about selling right now. Or buying AND selling. Only buy. This team is really good (as long as Crochet is healthy, knock on wood).
  17. I like most of this, but I really dont want to trade either Duran or Abreu right now. Im more of a make it work guy. I dont need Ryan. Id rather trade prospects for something lesser. Regarding next year, keep Giolitto, right? Take him over Cease. And do better than Hoskins. So thats a lot Im changing about the specific players, but I dont want to focus on that, because we agree a lot on the most relevant parts of this discussion (why Devers was traded). But why the F are you going for Hoskins? Id rather put Duran at 1B.
  18. But I dont think it was financial. I do think it was attitude and egos and they were surprised the giants would take the contract and give a + value back, and they thought that the opportunity to move him - it would be harder in the future.
  19. Agree with first part, not second. I think there were multiple things going on, multiple reasons, and the reason they pulled the trigger was a list. I dont think they view the hitting secondary to defense and pitching tho, and therefore, I disagree with it being about "higher need areas" I think first and foremost it was attitude and clubhouse culture I think secondly, they thought the value of the asset would likely go down from there. So not they think they needed pitching or defense more than they needed a masher, but more a chance to cash out while getting a + BTV back. So I think it was the return. Not these guys specifically , but the fact that the return package had a net + (even if HIcks is underwater), I think they thought better to trade one year early than one year late (like a Belichick trading Richard Seymour type move) I think they saw the logjam at DH and that contributed Devers was already aging with the injury lingering. Thats a sign of aging. Also his bodytype Like someone else said, most of the time when you sign an 8 yr deal, you expect to get surplus value in the front, but have to carry in the back, so the contract gets harder to move when the first 2 years gone, so they were surprised how easily they could move it, and pulled the trigger Regarding whre the money specifically goes - I dont think about it like that, personally. To me its a pool. It creates more money in the pool, but Im not concerned about dollar for dollar tracking.
  20. Multiple agents came forward and said "the sox have stated they really like my client, but neeed to move money before bidding" Actually happened. But regarding the current debate: it was a mixture of both. It wasnt 100% moving some money to sign a SP, but it wasnt 0% either. They thought, at the time, they were killing 2 birds with one stone. Fixing 2B (Grissom) and moving out money to sign a different pitcher.
  21. When I jumped in, you mentioned we cant platoon both 1b and DH. I see that the implication was "while also platooning 2b" Correct, hard to platoon 3x. Unless its september *(Id also do it playoffs, but Id carry 5 position players, calling Hammy back up). Not sure if teams still do this but you dont need as many pitchers in playoffs. Yes, for July and August platooning 3 positions would be tough. You could and I would, but its tough. The three platoons would be : Mayer/Romy Duran/Refsnyder Toro/Yoshida (working on 1b as we speak) Id do it, but Im crazy a superior baseball mind. Or id play Mayer everyday. Or DFA Yoshida and call Ham back up.
  22. You gave Steer out as a name, and then said Romy is too hot to trade. Steer makes Romy look like an ice cub. Dude is on absolute fire.
  23. He doesnt need to. Romy can platoon with Mayer or Toro in the IF. The other platoon is either at DH or in the OF, as it involves Refsnyder
