You said no big contracts. Theres middle ground between that and the dodgers. Ive never advocating for going full dodgers with it. Just that they dont bother me as much as the small market greedy billionaire club. Im all for a raise to the stadium workers and him giving some money to charity.

reach and throwing lefty are advantages to playing 1b. But so is flexibility. And Yoshida is infinitely more flexible than casas and toro last year. Yoshida cant run or throw well. But Im not ruling him out , him being serviceable at 1b - and if Im him, I wanna add the tool to my toolbelt. Im not saying pencil in masa at 1b and leave him there all season even if he struggles. Im saying that there is a gap between schwarbers bat and every other alternative bat i see us getting (even alonso). So i get schwarber. And i put one of him, yoshida, casas, romy or some breakout minor leaguer (pw, campbell) at 1b and if that 1b winds up being schwarber someone else from the list goes to DH. If Schwarber cant play 1b, than he goes to dh and yoshida , casas, romy or someone else has to play 1b I dont let yoshida stop me from going after a better hitter than devers

im not old school, but one my old school thing that i love is having a designated speedster off the bench. I agree. I dont hate hamilton on this bench. Just not as a starter.

Im fine with schwarber at 1b and yoshida at dh if youd rather. But nothing is stopping me from offering schwarber 110m/3

yoshida having a few inches of reach less than an ideal 1b is more than offset by the difference between Alonsos B ovr bat and Schwarbers A- overall bat.

And crochet is a superstar making superstar money. How far do we go without him? My guess dead last.

But keep in mind that the dude who ortiz'd them all the way there (Vladdy) is a giant contract and the robin to his batman (bichette) is about to be one. So if the jays had been against paying superstars superstar money, then this was their only shot and theyd be back to middle of the pack (at best) next year. Lucky for their fans, their owner does not mind paying superstar money for superstar players.

I would sign Schwarber. Teach Masa how to play 1b. Let him and Casas and Romy compete to see who wins the job (my money on Romy). Get another very good infielder who can play both sides of the ball. That may be Bregman, that may be Bichette, that may be somebody in a trade. Not assume Casas, Yoshida, Hamilton, Story, Mayer, RA, Cedanne, Duran/Abreu (whichever isnt traded) will all be healthy (they wont) or assume that this offense is good enough even if they do stay healthy (they arent)

We need two very good hitters to add, one can be Bregman.

If you are counting on anything more than 0 from casas, you lost me. Thats not giving up on him, thats not relying on him or holding a seat for him. We need sluggers and we cannot expect one to be casas, doesnt mean one cant be casas. Bregman isnt here, and is no guarantee to be healthy next year. Mayers replacements hit better than he had, but I dont think that remains the case going forward. Agreed on Anthony but leadoff guys are only as good as the dudes hitting behind them. Abreu was back by then. Plus most circle Abreu or Duran to be traded. So I guess it wouldnt be that offense, it would be worse because youd be minus Bregman/Abreu (or Duran) 10th isnt good enough

Agreed, im not against trading for painter, but there are guys id rather target.

Gotta improve the offense. I dont think anyone is trying to outright release him. But hes not a starter in mlb.

I dont think teams really want a hard cap either. I think they are happy to get the annual check from the teams that are actually trying and paying a penalty, and the teams that are actually trying and paying a penalty are happy to cut it. -

Last year, I would not have traded him for any player in mlb. This year, I am open to trading Duran but I still expect a lot of value from him. If we trade Duran for pitching, and lose Bregman and dont get a big bat....Even if story stays, the team will be impossible to watch.
