  1. I saw Orioles broadcast and they said last season, starting pitching was 7th in league and bullpen 22nd. I hope that they didn't concentrate much on it in off-season not bite us in the butt.
  2. '04 should be called "the series" in terms of collapse. '24 should be called "the inning."
  3. I personally think it was making winning a priority by keeping Jeter on SS. Arod was coming off being a cry baby on a losing team mainly because they couldn't get any players because of his never seen before monstrous contract. To take him and replace him with Jeter would be ludicrous, unless Jeter agreed. Jeter numbers weren't as good but he was clutch when it mattered. Arod....not so much. The Devers/Bregman situation isn't that though. I would, I guess keep Devers on 3rd for now.
  4. You mentioned Devers competing for 1st, during spring training against Casas I thought. I haven't heard anything from the FO about it though. It also makes sense and has been mentioned here before. Isnt Devers biggest problem on 3rd his arm and less his glove? That would be another reason for him to be on 1st.
  5. I would be better with Devers on first. It's fair, because he's been our best player and fairness makes for a better locker room but yeah, Devers has to come half way. And if course he would probably be better at first.
  6. The skill sets of 3rd and 2nd look vastly different, especially throwing arm, which Bregman looks very capable of having. I would feel bad for Devers if they moved him to DH, considering that should be saved for aging stars, but I see no alternative. Hate to say it but in all reality, especially if our prospects and Casas pan out, Devers is the best trade piece, especially if he starts making a problem.
  7. Devers said, "I'm someone that believes in people's word," concerning what he says the Red Sox said about him playing 3rd base. Does anyone know what he's talking about, or is he assuming that hes supposed to be 3rd base because he's the best hitter?
  8. Thats a smooth looking swing. He probably doesn't need to be in the weight room. He should eat hot dogs and drink beer for preparation like Babe Ruth.
  9. Good. Money is no object I'm guessing but the years was just right.
  10. Casas may be the more tradeable player to get something back for.
  11. There were some blown saves in that stretch after the allstar break, which is why an improved bullpen is just as important as starting pitching. If the offense is a strong point then the bullpen should be a priority.
  12. I like having a good farm system but it's not an either or thing it's a both thing. I don't think we'll be worse but we should feel confident about making the playoffs or we risk the psyche of what we have already accomplished. The off-season seemed simple, keep the offense the same, meaning with O'Neill or someone better, and add pitching.
  13. Isn't a RHB more important for the Red Sox than most any other team because of the Green Monster?
  14. But he hit 31 home runs. That's impressive especially since he didn't play every game. Alonso, known as playing every game and being a power hitter hit 33. That's enough to risk 20 million and one year to know if the injuries were in the past or not.
  15. Working with pitchers is an aspect of catching that doesn't get talked about much, probably because it doesn't have any measurable stat to prove it but it was what VTek was known for. I wonder how Wong measures up in that category.
  16. True. Alot of talent has definitely shifted to the NL. Another thing, though that I don't see much talked about is protection for Devers in another power bat. Of course we can't have everything, like a young, RH power bat, all the while getting that D, pitching and health, but that is on my list of things we need.
  17. I do wonder if they even had a plan coming into the off-season concerning a RH bat, other than Teoscar. And if not, why not just resign O'Neill and make life easier? I don't think they're playing chicken with Bregman, I don't think they want him. It feels more like looking for who is left over as the bar is closing, to be crude.
  18. Better but will we make the playoffs. Got to make the playoffs.
  19. I was pretty much that way except for getting a RH bat (and bullpen arm). Even at the trade deadline last year a RH bat was on the list of needs and that was with us having O'Neill. Without him makes it even more imperative.
  20. I would say, it's easier to be honest when you are offering lots of money than it is when you are penny pinching, aka being more creative imo. I wouldn't doubt if we were trying not to show our hand on purpose, yes, because we are not completely sure of what we want but also to keep as an element of surprise against the press and adversaries. Mostly the press.
  21. The only thing I have against umps is the general trend of getting rid of humans in many jobs as well as the increase of bad customer service. Do you think they're going to give that money saved on umpires hack to the fans? Highly unlikely.
  22. As they have said Red Sox are probably playing chicken with Bregman and I can't blame them. All these RHB free agents asking for all this money are pretty much guaranteed to be not as good, and decreasing. If we get him, we get him because we need that RHB but it seems like we missed the boat. In hindsight they should've just signed O'Neill and focused on what we DIDN’T have.
  23. Agreed. If the offense is good it stands to reason that you need a good bullpen to keep your lead. The BP lost some key games after the all star break that were momentum breaking. Need a closer.
  24. Are there two Kikuchis because I looked him up and he's 33 and also he got signed by Dodgers. Yeah O'Neill does seem to have a history of injuries but at this point it would be nice to have at least one power RHB. Of course it doesn't matter now. I think we need a talented RHB to feel that we had a successful offseason.
  25. I'm not sure I want Bregman or any of these high priced, long term players, especially the long term part. Its most likely they aren't going to be as good as they were and it's not going to get better. If we're going to pay all that money, they need to be at their prime. We should have got Teoscar or resigned O'Neill and just focus on pitching.
