  1. I agree. Having someone like Crochet, it would be nice to only worry about winning the games he doesn't pitch.
  2. Shutouts deserve at least that. They used to get you through the 8th, if not finish, if kept up. I'm not sure how much pitchers care about their wins but he's not getting one.
  3. I don't see why Yoshida creates a log jam. Not if Casas keeps on playing the way he is. When Yoshida gets healthy and if Casas hasn't heated up, bring Yoshida up, put Casas back to AAA, have Devers play first (which he may appreciate) and put Yoshida back on DH. Yoshidas batting would fit our needs nicely. He's got a good average and low strike outs.
  4. It's good to finally win a pitchers duel without Garrett Crochet.
  5. I later thought that maybe he's still figuring out who he likes best in the bullpen but it's also a modern trend.
  6. Cora replaces starting pitchers too early.
  7. Thats very telling and wouldnt doubt is part of the problem. Today's culture doesn't celebrate the individual anymore, it's all about "it takes a village..." aka "no accountability." It all goes back to not wanting people to have hurt feelings.
  8. Was watching a clip of "The Sport Hub" and they're suggesting analytics is too much of a factor with the Red Sox. So much so that one of them told Jim Rice to stop talking with a prospect he was giving advice to. We obviously benefited, probably the most, from analytics but now I think it's gone too far. For one thing it almost makes players merely the body for the analyzers who are the mind. I think this could have a detrimental effect on the players not relying on themselves enough, making them second guess themselves too much. Just this idea of some unknown group of people on computers, making decisions or the team, doesn't sit right with me.
  9. Yeah, who knows but intelligence and knowing how to work with a pitcher was his strong suit which theoretically would seem to cross over well to managing. As for the Red Sox troubles so far, strikeouts, leaving men in scoring position and errors could be seen as pressure. To add to that, team batting average, OBP and stealing bases are all good, stats less related to scoring. It could be their approach to batting like swinging for the fences when a single would do but either way, pressure or batting approach, the manager has some responsibility. I personally think they feel the pressure of having to perform after having such a big off-season and feel they have to live up to that.
  10. I thought this was some kind of inside joke, about the quote book from Yale. I don't like the sound of that. A good manager shouldn't need that and a GM shouldn't think that about his manager.
  11. I think that should've been done. Devers could have played first which would have solved the Yoshida conundrum.
  12. I saw Orioles broadcast and they said last season, starting pitching was 7th in league and bullpen 22nd. I hope that they didn't concentrate much on it in off-season not bite us in the butt.
  13. '04 should be called "the series" in terms of collapse. '24 should be called "the inning."
  14. I personally think it was making winning a priority by keeping Jeter on SS. Arod was coming off being a cry baby on a losing team mainly because they couldn't get any players because of his never seen before monstrous contract. To take him and replace him with Jeter would be ludicrous, unless Jeter agreed. Jeter numbers weren't as good but he was clutch when it mattered. Arod....not so much. The Devers/Bregman situation isn't that though. I would, I guess keep Devers on 3rd for now.
  15. You mentioned Devers competing for 1st, during spring training against Casas I thought. I haven't heard anything from the FO about it though. It also makes sense and has been mentioned here before. Isnt Devers biggest problem on 3rd his arm and less his glove? That would be another reason for him to be on 1st.
  16. I would be better with Devers on first. It's fair, because he's been our best player and fairness makes for a better locker room but yeah, Devers has to come half way. And if course he would probably be better at first.
  17. The skill sets of 3rd and 2nd look vastly different, especially throwing arm, which Bregman looks very capable of having. I would feel bad for Devers if they moved him to DH, considering that should be saved for aging stars, but I see no alternative. Hate to say it but in all reality, especially if our prospects and Casas pan out, Devers is the best trade piece, especially if he starts making a problem.
  18. Devers said, "I'm someone that believes in people's word," concerning what he says the Red Sox said about him playing 3rd base. Does anyone know what he's talking about, or is he assuming that hes supposed to be 3rd base because he's the best hitter?
  19. Thats a smooth looking swing. He probably doesn't need to be in the weight room. He should eat hot dogs and drink beer for preparation like Babe Ruth.
  20. Good. Money is no object I'm guessing but the years was just right.
  21. Casas may be the more tradeable player to get something back for.
  22. There were some blown saves in that stretch after the allstar break, which is why an improved bullpen is just as important as starting pitching. If the offense is a strong point then the bullpen should be a priority.
  23. I like having a good farm system but it's not an either or thing it's a both thing. I don't think we'll be worse but we should feel confident about making the playoffs or we risk the psyche of what we have already accomplished. The off-season seemed simple, keep the offense the same, meaning with O'Neill or someone better, and add pitching.
  24. Isn't a RHB more important for the Red Sox than most any other team because of the Green Monster?
