  1. I think the one guy who no one complains about but should is Cora. He let Houck pitch the 7th, yay, but wait a minute, his pitch count was only 86. What is it? Pitch counts or innings? I know, whichever gets them out of the game the fastest. I understood pulling Giolito considering he just got back but this is getting ridiculous. Cora and Casas, get em out of here. I was listening to the radio broadcast and they said Casas is purposely only swinging at certain strikes ie not high ones...and he's tall!
  2. That's absolutely nuts. The difference between a 2 to a 3 run home run seems light years away, or is that just the Red Sox these days?
  3. Agreed. If he wants it, he should be able to have it. He's been our star for awhile and a little loyalty goes a long way. Of course only if it's an upgrade which, with some practice, it would be. As someone on here pointed out, you can't just put him on 1st without training. Youkilis did it though and he became a gold glover.
  4. I mean, it's better than not leading the league in them. You have people getting on base, and then you have people driving them in with home runs. Whats not to like? I think the important thing is when they do stuff.
  5. Sometimes sacrifices must be made for the good of the team.
  6. By the time Yoshida gets healthy, which seems like there's no great hurry, if Casas doesn't pick it up, let them trade places and have Devers play first.
  7. It should be pointed out that as Devers was "struggling," he not only lead the team, by a wide margin, in walks but, because of those walks, in runs too.
  8. Why do they constantly take pitchers out when they are doing well? It's freakin irking me.
  9. I'm good with getting a pitcher while at the same time trading Casas or Yoshida as well as Mayers as a package. I also noticed David Robertson is still a free agent.
  10. Was that Bogearts you are talking about concerning Story? I stopped paying attention during Covid, I've just started paying attention again. I also remember they put Bogaerts on 3rd for awhile but he demanded SS, but I digress. Yes a team should do whats best for the team and as I said Bregman is good for the team. At the same time, they aren't actual gears for some machine, loyalty is also good for a team and if you go too far without it you will lose your team. I'm more looking at how Devers goes to DH instead of 1st. I may be off base and Devers may want 3rd and nothing else but if that's not true, why is the more unproductive, unproven, more rookie player not at DH, Casas, instead of the player who has been your best player and wants to play on the field? That's how I agreed with your previous post, two posts ago. I'm saying they haven't done a good job at figuring out the Casas/Devers/Yoshida conundrum and agree they shouldve traded Casas in the off-season.
  11. I concur. Getting Bregman or some kind of talented RHB was crucial but to put the face of the franchise as DH when he was supposedly promised 3rd base for his career, though by a previous administration, is not nothing. Bregman and Cora being old chums from Astros may not be nothing either.
  12. I think 1/4 of the season is a fair sample size, however we should be going for a 3rd great SP no matter what.
  13. Devers has been brilliant with the walks. He may be relying on them too much.
  14. All in all we scored 5 runs, which should be enough to win. I would put this one on Newcomb and hes not in our long term plans so Im ok. I guess Seattle also has a better offense than last year. If we win today, I'll be satisfied.
  15. To be Mayer would be tough. For him to be so ready and have Story doing so well must give anxiety. With him, Casas and Yoshida, you have the makings of a great trade package for another top notch SP. Not saying I'd do it though, just a thought.
  16. I can imagine everyone with ear pieces waiting for instructions while guys on computers feverishly punch in numbers. I know it's not like that but there's more than numbers to this game to get wins. Going back to Nolan Ryan, him wanting pitchers to go deeper into games comes from him as GM for Rangers. Him and his pitching coach, Mike Maddux both agreed. Maddux said a pitcher has had enough when the batters start hitting his pitches. He also said pitch counts limit their ceiling. Sounds very complicated now and hand holding-ish.
  17. You don't think, talent wise, we are a playoff caliber team?
  18. I've heard that but I don't see much difference in scoring numbers. They say scoring has gotten less but looking at scoring season to season, it's somewhat lower lately but has been a lot lower throughout the years. I'm kind of going off Nolan Ryan's philosophy that pitchers should pitch deeper into games. Pitchers throw their arms into injury smacks of them being the muscle of the machine while the unseen analytical team are the brains. The players and managers should be the muscle and the brains.
  19. Yet they pitch much less
  20. Obviously we have some people playing under their abilities but I'm personally glad the pitching is improving. Yes we've been playing the White Sox, so shouldn't put too much stock into any winning but after all the hand wringing, we are only a game and a half out of first place in our division.
  21. It was nice to have Buehler pitch 7, then the setup man, then the closer. No adventurous late innings.
  22. I think having one of the best farm systems in the league is very smart. If this was their plan when not resigning Betts, it becomes much more understandable.
  23. If he wants to ease pitchers into the season, OK but studs must be studs.
