I disagree. There is still a good core in place. They need 2 SOLID SP , an upgrade at 2B, and figuring out their OF but all this is reasonably achieved PROVIDED Henry is willing to spend again. Houck and Whitlock both go to the pen.
what prospects that DD traded make a big impact? We are seeing DD prospects that he didn't trade like Bello, Duran, Houk, Raefala, Casas become big contributors now as well. There is just simply no comparison between the 2 GM's.
I agree with a Verdugo trade. I really believe the new GM will add some quality SP. Unlike Bloom the new guy will be coming in at the right time as Henry has realized changes are needed or RSN is about to revolt
Chapman makes LESS THAN ZERO sense for the Sox. Think PITCHING, PITCHING, PITCHING, PITCHING and MORE PITCHING. Did I mention that the Sox need pitching???
All I know is that this is a huge weekend for the Sox. They and 2-3 other sad sack teams are with-in a win or 2 of each other. If the Sox can just keep mailing it in for this weekend they could move up at least 2 spots in the draft.
at least the Sox have done one thing right--they completely mailed it in and tanked these past few weeks and not hurt their draft position. Just a pathetic team to be honest--just pathetic
how about you start a new thread where you and old red can exchange insults and leave these threads to actual baseball talk. not taking sides at all just stating the obvious. anyone agree?
5 years for Gray would be a disaster and I think both Nola and Snell will want more than 5. I would pass but the new GM will want to make a splash so we will probably get one of them.
I have faith that the new GM will actually add some decent pitching. I think Henry has felt the unrest from RSN and is prepared to open the pocketbook a bit more. I just hope we don't go after any of these 30ish FA SP that will want 5-6 yr deals. I say go HARD after Yamamoto and make a deal for one of the Marlins young P prospects that are close or even MLB ready.
not that much to be honest. Have not been on sox prospects for a while now. Just checked it out. I see both anthony and Bleiss are 19 so likely 3 years away at least.
I read on Boston.com today that Bloom turned down a Turner trade to the Marlins for Edward Cabera a hard throwing 25 yr old. That alone was worth firing him for since Turner is almost certain to walk after this year.
Morton was the exact type Bloom would have been in on. It is past time for those type moves. If I am the new GM I do not allow myself to be out-bid on Yamamoto and I scour the non-contending teams and the Marlins for a young promising SP that I can trade some of our " so called high end prospects for not named Raefala, Teel or Mayer along with a Verdugo or Duran. Not sure if Dalbec has any value but he could be a throw in.
I would be staying away from almost all the 6 you list other than Yamamoto. Kershaw is not going to pitch anywhere other than LA and spends too much time on the DL EVERY year anyway. NO way do I sign Nola for 7-8 yrs or Snell for 6-7. Even though I like Gray at 34 I am not giving him 4-5 years. Ditto for Montgomery at 6-7 yrs. Did the Sox not learn anything from the Price and Sale contracts. Go YOUNG with QUALITY HARD THROWING arms that can fit in the window our farm system is building.
