    when was the last time the Red Sox drafted a SP in the 1st round? Certainly not in the Bloom era.

    To A red Sox fan named Hugh---As I stated earlier I was simply referring to another poster's quote about drafting 5 shortstops but let me be perfectly clear on this. IMO the Red Sox farm system is somewhat overrated and at least it is VERY SLIM on top P prospects.

    I am referring to a quote from another poster. In any event no-one is trading us a #1 or #2 SP. We either draft and develop them ourselves or Bloom simply goes out and signs us the next Kluber. Why is it that teams like Seattle, Cleveland and Tampa just to name a few can have so many top young SP but not the Sox?

    please tell what stud prospects Bloom has added that are close to MLB ready. Even Mayer is struggling at AA right now. There are no SP close to MLB ready so where/how do you get those 2 SP you speak of?? Most likely Bloom simply adds the next Cory Kluber type.

    Has everyone on here not figured out yet that this the way Bloom/Henry are building this team? Bloom has convinced Henry { or vice-versa} that the way to do it is through the farm system and sprinkled with some Bloom 1-2 yr FA signings on veteran players to keep the team competitive.

    I have actually been more critical of Henry as I think he has tied Bloom/s hands.

    I totally agree but you have to pay real $$ to get decent pitching and Bloom/Henry have been unwilling to do so up to this point.

    Signing FA SP on the back half of their careers is a losing proposition. For ex Snell is a good pitcher for sure but his best days are behind not in front of him. Tampa knows when to move from pitchers. the route to go is find your own YOUNG P prospects and develop them. See Cleveland and Settle for just 2 examples.
